To think the BBC just love sticking the boot into the Sussexes

BBC

Aropos of sod all, they feel the need to mention that there will inevitably be comparisons between the Cambridges' 'by royal standards, modest home' and the Sussexes' 'very much more expansive, multi room accomodation'.

I wouldn't have even thought to compare the two and I'm fairly sure most people wouldn't either. In fact the thing that sticks out the most by far is the fact that this is the Cambridges' third home. And school fees alone will be £50k a year. What cost of living crisis?!

But, yeah. Any excuse to set the cat amongst the pigeons where H&M are concerned, it seems.

They didn't get to choose where they went, the Jamaican government did

That seems highly unlikely. The agenda would have been approved weeks in advance. The security issues would make that absolutely necessary.

It was an absolute embarrassment and utterly tone deaf.

Diamond7272 · 23/08/2022 20:37

And she's back...

"Hello, I want my privacy... But please watch my podcast all about me and my family" (because it's the only way I can pay my bills if Charles closes the Duchy piggy bank😕)...

Haven't worked since Suits...

But i want my privacy....

Oh, enjoy the podcast about my private life...

It's like dumb and dumber all over again. Wait til she monetises the children (she will be desperate to have them doing TedTalks). Then, the children will be discriminated against, bullied, suffer all sorts of major problems in their life, all to be discussed in a podcast to the highest Nexflix bid...

Classy.

What's next? A book?

Oh yes.... Oops😕

Baoing · 23/08/2022 20:42

Classy

Not a word I'd associate with a bitter little diatribe about a complete stranger, tbh.

She's in the public eye. It's possible to seek to both control aspects of her privacy and use a public platform. Countless other people do it all the time. It's not the hilarious contradiction you seem to think it is.

Genevieva · 23/08/2022 20:44

William is the future King. It will all be his one day, so it really doesn't matter how many places within the royal property portfolio he spends time living in. Alongside that he recognises that people are curious about his family. He seems to manage that quite well. If he didn't offer the press photos and little bits of information about schools etc from time to time then he would receive a lot of vitriol. Royal stories sell and newspapers expect to be able meet that demand.

Harry is a private individual now. He left precisely because he doesn't like media attention. The press should respect that and not report on him or his wife and children at all. You shouldn't know anything about the size of their home, what company that are working for / with... It doesn't matter whether those stories sell of not. There should be no articles on them unless there is a clear public interest case.

Liverpudlian78 · 23/08/2022 20:47

But it's okay for the Sussexes to be critical of so much in the UK but not the other way around. Can't stand either of them

Diamond7272 · 23/08/2022 20:48

How's she a stranger???

She chooses to tell us all more about her than I know about Boris.... And he's been in the Country the past 2 yrs last time i looked.

All through the highest bidder's network... 🙄 (likes the $$$$)

Baoing · 23/08/2022 20:57

I have absolutely zero problem with Meghan. On balance, she seems somewhat preferable to many members of the royal family.

But I confess that I probably spend all of around 4.5 seconds a month thinking about it.

What did Meghan do to you to make you so bitter about a complete stranger ?

TheKeatingFive · 23/08/2022 21:07

What did Meghan do to you to make you so bitter about a complete stranger ?

These kinds of comments are different much more telling about the person making them I always think.

I wish people would exercise more self reflection. Why would that person be so triggered about a total stranger I wonder?

CathyorClaire · 23/08/2022 21:09

Love how they've think they can deceive us plebs by spinning the acquiring of a third property as "downsizing"

Charles and his workshy son's spin team have both calculated a slimmed down monarchy will play well with the plebs. The beauty of it is it won't affect their own obscenely bloated lifestyles in the slightest.

They are quiet on whether the Sovereign Grant will reduce when there are fewer royals on the public payroll but given it's legally guaranteed not to I'm not holding my breath.

He left precisely because he doesn't like media attention

Losing his hectoring habit and stopping wagging his tedious finger at the peasants would help tremendously in this regard. That and maybe giving his Netflix stalkers the slip not going to happen

Why are you so reluctant to believe the facts? Host countries set the agenda on these tours, that’s how it works. If anyone was tone deaf it was the Jamaican government.

TheKeatingFive · 23/08/2022 21:15

There's never been the slightest suggestion that it would do. So no, don't hold your breath. Just a bigger pot for the in-crowd.

Baoing · 23/08/2022 21:25

Why are you so reluctant to believe the facts?

Grin

Host countries set the agenda on these tours, that’s how it works

It's really not. Common sense should kick in here. The heir to the throne doesn't turn up and await instructions. Each part of every day is meticulously planned, beat by beat, to account for a whole series of things, not least security. Every outfit, every restroom break, and so on.

It's a little odd to be convinced otherwise. The truth is that their PR team planned the whole thing, stuck to the colonial script and no one had the sense to think that it wasn't 1953 anymore.

I guess William did offer his 'profound sorrow' for slavery. What a guy.

Blossomtoes · 23/08/2022 21:28

Each part of every day is meticulously planned, beat by beat, to account for a whole series of things, not least security

Yes. By the host country.

Baoing · 23/08/2022 21:35

Yes. By the host country

No. There is complex liaison between the parties involved weeks, if not months, in advance.

For argument's sake, even if you were right, and the host country planned the lot, don't you think that the agenda would be signed off well in advance?

You must realise that it would HAVE to be, for myriad reasons. You can't possibly think that they show up and are freshly surprised each morning by what's going to be happening?

Novella4 · 23/08/2022 21:39

For gods sake @Blossomtoes W and K PR were out there two weeks before checking everything out.

Apparently W had a 'heated' meeting after the tour ( shock horror) and all the ( predicable) bad publicity.

After ...

Blossomtoes · 23/08/2022 21:44

You can't possibly think that they show up and are freshly surprised each morning by what's going to be happening?

No I don’t. Equally I’m pretty sure that it would be regarded as very bad manners to quibble about the itinerary set by the host country.

Baoing · 23/08/2022 21:59

No I don’t. Equally I’m pretty sure that it would be regarded as very bad manners to quibble about the itinerary set by the host country

It was an ill-judged, excruciating PR disaster on the part of the palace.

Even the palace didn't claim that the Jamaican government was to blame. But you are? Odd.

WTF475878237NC · 23/08/2022 22:01

The BBC should be above the standards of the tabloid press.

^ If only. Their journalistic standards have been shocking for years.

Blossomtoes · 23/08/2022 22:02

Even the palace didn't claim that the Jamaican government was to blame

The media did. Do you think I just dreamt it up? Very odd.

Baoing · 23/08/2022 22:14

The media did. Do you think I just dreamt it up? Very odd

The media isn't the palace. And it certainly wasn't 'the media,' it was a corner of 'the media' Confused

So you blame the Jamaican government because 'the media' did or didn't. Any space for critical thinking there?

Why are you ignoring every other point? The fact that the palace PR go on a reccy trip for every single step of the tour?

The security detail HAS to be arranged by the palace. In order to do that, they need chapter and verse of the agenda in advance. Are you seriously suggesting otherwise?

Do you think that William and Kate had NO IDEA about what they would be doing? That the Jamaican government planned the whole thing and didn't tell anyone until they were there? Or that palace PR of course knew, but didn't mention it to W&K?

Which of this ludicrous scenarios is true in your world?

This is nuts, but weirdly compelling.

TheWernethWife · 23/08/2022 22:23

At least Harry was not a traitor like the Duke of Windsor was, a known Nazi sympathiser but was able to keep his HRH and title.

Read "The Palace Papers" by Tina Brown, that will open your eyes to the Royal Family.

Blossomtoes · 23/08/2022 23:08

Which of this ludicrous scenarios is true in your world?

None of them. They’re all products of your extremely fertile republican imagination.

Baoing · 23/08/2022 23:48

Going to reply to the other points, Blossom?

This is a good starting point www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/a10309303/royal-tour-planning-process/ - it's pretty basic, common sense stuff, but the fact that you are determined to blame the Jamaican government for the sheer idiocy of the royal family is somewhat grating.

extremely fertile republican imagination <blushes> Aw. Thanks 😘

Blossomtoes · 24/08/2022 00:11

Going to reply to the other points, Blossom?

No, because evidently I’m incapable of critical thinking so there wouldn’t be any point. Sleep well.
