To be in despair at kids hairstyles

I know it's personal choice and it's none of my business but I can't get my head around the current 'trend' for shaving your kids head but leaving a mop of hair on top to tie up in some awful, crappy ponytail/bun. I saw a 2 year old boy with it the other day and it made me want to vom.

See a doctor that is a quite strong reaction. You might have a hair phobia

lifeturnsonadime · 22/08/2022 08:31

YABU I thought you were going to bemoan the return of the 80's mullet.

I'll keep an eye out for the style you mentioned.

It's only hair!

FlibbertyGiblets · 22/08/2022 08:31

It is a version of Meet Me at Mcdonalds, nowt wrong with it.

I think for preschool, this kind of style is a really neat solution to transmission of nits, I know it is an unintended consequence of being a fashionable little mop-top . We tie up little girls hair, plait it and whatnot, to lower transmission opportunities. So yeah, YABU, go get some toast and coffee, you are hangry [hand pat]

Remember bowl cuts and mullets? There have always been stupid trends for childrens hair

Thepeopleversuswork · 22/08/2022 08:34

I can’t get exercised about this. Hairstyles change, fashions change. You don’t have to participate.

Sonnex · 22/08/2022 08:35

I like that style I've had it myself. It's very practical and easy to look after. I think it looks better than the buzzcut alternative. I also like the modern take on mullets, my 14y old has one and it really suits him.

TBH anything that avoids dirty, greasy lank hair is fine by me.

Strange that kid's haircuts are making you feel sick. Have you done a pregnancy test.

Soproudoflionesses · 22/08/2022 08:38

I don't like it either op

scrivette · 22/08/2022 08:40

It's quite practical, when it's not tied up you wouldn't necessarily know it's shaved underneath so just looks like longer hair.

Fair enough.

Does seeing a haircut like this make you feel despair and prompt nausea in you, too?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/08/2022 08:44

I quite like a stupid haircut on kids - it takes me back to my 1980s childhood.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 22/08/2022 08:46

There are loads of mullets around these days - defo having a moment amongst the yoof!

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 22/08/2022 08:46

Kim Jong-il. Is that you? Shock

QuillBill · 22/08/2022 08:52

Don't despair. You don't have to 'get your head round it'. It's just hair on the heads of children you don't know.

cushioncovers · 22/08/2022 08:54

The hairstyle you're describing is particularly naff op especially on a small child. It screams trying too hard in my eyes. However I think back to my goth phase in the 80's and I cringe at photos of my hair and outfits. I'm sure my parents and many others thought I looked absolutely ridiculous.

Yep, I thought my time machine had finally worked when a kid asked me if he should get a perm, mullet or curtains.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/08/2022 09:08

I’m finding it hard to picture they hair cut you mean! Can someone post a picture

But I do think YABU as it doesn’t matter what hairstyle other people have.

RewildingAmbridge · 22/08/2022 09:10

I don't care what other people do with their children's hair but it's making it very difficult to get DS a standard hair cut! He has longish hair and just time despite her saying so just a trim? He ended up with a wonky mullet, I also regularly get settled if I want them to shave it underneath, no thanks!

Why on earth would this make anyone vomit?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/08/2022 09:17

Oh thanks! That looks quite nice.

I haven’t see that on kids, although I did Google kids hairstyles and saw lots with the back and sides shaved but longer on top.

DessicatedWithering · 22/08/2022 09:18

My kids had this in lock down because it was the only style I could ldo Grin

To be honest I can see why, it's easy to do at home. I guess that's why some kids still have it. They just liked it.

Treabrea · 22/08/2022 09:22

I thought about doing this to myself when it was boiling hot last month. Thought it looked cool, in both senses.

I saw two men at the weekend with mullets and moustaches. It was quite the look.

Can't see anything wrong with that at all. Happy to take a closer look to be sure it doesn't make me ill.😄
