To be in despair at kids hairstyles

I know it's personal choice and it's none of my business but I can't get my head around the current 'trend' for shaving your kids head but leaving a mop of hair on top to tie up in some awful, crappy ponytail/bun. I saw a 2 year old boy with it the other day and it made me want to vom.

It's all about the perms on boys at the primary I work at

Thedungeondragon · 22/08/2022 10:39

I'm sure you didn't really mean despair? Fair enough if you don't like it, but it is only a hairstyle, which will grow out. Does it really matter?

Hiphophippityskip1 · 22/08/2022 10:41

I am happy for you that this is the biggest thing in your life that you have to be in despair about. What a charmed life you lead.

HoppingPavlova · 22/08/2022 10:42

Of course it looks stupid but every generation has had stupid hair fads. I can’t think of when there hasn’t been stupid hair fads, so who cares, it’s not a new thing. The most important bit is not to get it yourself if you don’t like it and not to worry about what others are doing with their heads.

I’m the same OP.
A gorgeous little 2 year old boy had it in Clarks; and it looked so impractical and try hard.
The same DM was urging him to try on pink shoes (whilst loudly proclaiming that pink isn’t just for girls) when he was desperately pointing to the dinosaur ones.

For years I would joke to my kids that I would ask the barber to give them a mullet.

Joke was on me when my DS actually had a mullet this year. I was horrified! And I keep seeing teens with them. Why? They were terrible the first time round.

I'm not that distressed it will make me vomit though. It's more amusing than anything, especially after years of me joking about mullets they are in fashion again!

I keep seeing boys walking around with this kind of “do”. I think it makes their heads look like muffins

Sneery, superior attitudes make me feel the same way. Just let people enjoy stuff, yo!

Now THIS is the kind of stuff to worry about. A "cool" mummy trying to feminised her toddler son against his wishes!!

SweetPetrichor · 22/08/2022 10:57

That’s my hairstyle…so I think YABU. It’s easy, cool in the height, and better than just having a balder!

Draughtycatflapreturns · 22/08/2022 10:59

Just awful awful awful. Myself my husband and my three children all have the “Jacob Rees-Mogg”. Much classier in my opinion.

Louise0701 · 22/08/2022 11:02

@Blueeyedgirl21 same!!! Boys with the early 90s young girl style of Bob & fringe. It’s always on sweaty little boys swiping their fringe out of their eyes with their sisters hand me down pink glitter lelli Kelli shoes too.
