To ask how to reassure DD about this?

DD’s favourite soft toy is a Minnie Mouse from Walt Disney world in Florida.
all day she’s been upset and complaining that Minnie is “broke”. I keep telling her that Minnie isn’t broke and I’ve even checked Minnie just to be sure! But she’s literally in floods of tears saying Minnie is broke! What do I do?!

Can she show you where Minnie is 'broke'?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/08/2022 18:21

Ask where Minnie is hurt, and put a bandaid on, until Minnie feels better?

WagathaChristieMystery · 20/08/2022 18:22

How old is DD? Have you asked her why she thinks this? Can she show you for herself?

Beamur · 20/08/2022 18:22

How old is your DD?
If very young, could be something she has dreamt or seen on TV?

yes! But it’s not broke where she shows me! She shows 3 different places where she says the stitching is lose! DD doesn’t actually say the stitching is lose but that’s what she means. She says it’s my fault it’s “broke”

That won’t work

This is genius. Help her get Minnie better.
Break out the first aid kit.

Ohdearnotagain76 · 20/08/2022 18:23

Give Minnie some pretend medicine and wrap her up in bandage, then make her bed on sofa

Isaidnoalready · 20/08/2022 18:23

How is it your fault? 🤔

I love these ideas I really do, but it won’t work for DD because of her age and she’ll know it’s just for “show” so to speak

Likeadiamondintheskyatnight · 20/08/2022 18:25

She can’t sleep without Minnie so don’t know what she’ll do tonight

Have you washed the toy, does it smell and feel different?

MolliciousIntent · 20/08/2022 18:26

Why not just tell her that sometimes things can be broken and still just as lovely and special? That it being broken doesn't mean it can't still be loved and cuddled?

Nope it’s never been washed as I know DD would get upset about this

Because she knows it would get even more broke eventually and would still be upset. Obviously I know it’s not broke but that would be her thought process

This probably sounds silly but can you get some needle and thread out and pretend to sort the stitching?

i could but wouldn’t want to accidentally actually break it

Can your DD speak about how Minnie could be fixed?

MolliciousIntent · 20/08/2022 18:30

If she's worried about the seams could you reinforce them?

Yeah I wouldn't actually do any sewing (especially as there's seemingly nothing to fix!) but I would put on a good act as if I had sewed it. Maybe crack out the needle and thread and say you did it when she wasn't around.

I’ve asked her but she can’t say/doesn’t answer

Ok might try this before her bedtime tonight! Just hope she still cuddles Minnie in bed tonight as she can’t sleep without it and will probably be up all night!
