That 10 days is the holy grail holiday (not bloody 14 - when will I learn!)

Every single time we go on a European sun / beach / villa / complex type holiday, we book it for 14 days and every single time I get to about day 10 and am fed up and want to be at home. I've nothing to complain about except the bed is a bit uncomfortable and I should enjoy my last 3 days of sun and relaxing - but all I can think about is that if I'd bloody remembered and booked 10 days, we'd be flying home tomorrow and I could have had a few days at home in my own bed before going back to work....

I never feel like this on far flung holidays with a packed itinerary etc and holidays are always a few years between so I obviously forget and get all giddy with the booking.....

Ha, brilliant to hear, going on holiday for ten days next month! Thanks OP. 👍

InChocolateWeTrust · 16/08/2022 18:18

Yanbu op. I love a 10 day holiday.

SwedishEdith · 16/08/2022 18:20

Never feel like this at all.

ShowOfHands · 16/08/2022 18:22

I agree. Just done 7 days and needed 3 more. 14 is too much.

UrsulaPandress · 16/08/2022 18:24

My dear departed Dad was a great believer in the 10 day holiday.

Me, I like a short city break or 3 weeks in Africa.

DesMoulinsRouge · 16/08/2022 18:24

Totally agree

bellac11 · 16/08/2022 18:25

Ive never been on holiday for longer than a week. I miss the cat!

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/08/2022 18:25

I haven't been abroad since before covid but I agree 10 days is ideal.

mac1974 · 16/08/2022 18:26

We just did 10 days all inclusive and tbh I was ready to leave after 7. Last time we did a hol abroad was more euro camp self catering and we went for 2 weeks and I absolutely loved it.

Schoolchoicesucks · 16/08/2022 18:26

Feeling smug as I am half way thru a 10 day holiday. Taken 2 weeks off work, could leisurely pack rather than racing to the airport. Will get home and have time to unpack, do laundry, get prepared for back to work. Also saves a bit on accommodation and food. 10 days is perfect.

TeenDivided · 16/08/2022 18:26

I agree too. 7 is too short, 14 is often too long.

I'm jealous - WHY did I not remember this 😡

14 days of work.
2 days to get organised
10 days away
2 days to do stuff before work
Perfect

EnglishGirlApproximately · 16/08/2022 18:28

Ten days in the middle of a two week school holiday is perfect 👌 We get a two week October half term and have a 10/11 night holiday every time.

Musicalmistress · 16/08/2022 18:28

I used to agree but we did just over 3 weeks in Spain this year & it was bliss!

JubileeTissues · 16/08/2022 18:29

3 weeks is the best for me.

dockspider · 16/08/2022 18:30

I don’t know, we just did a fortnight and none of us were ready to leave. I think 2 weeks is too short but 3 weeks too long, so 18 days probably the holy grail for me. BUT we don’t do villa holidays - think I’d be bored after 10 days on one of those.

Both perfect length holidays. 10 days or 3 weeks.

CandyLeBonBon · 16/08/2022 18:36

I was having this very conversation just today. 10 days away but two weeks off work so you don't have that horrible jolt back into work the minute you get home! Lovely!

balalake · 16/08/2022 18:38

I agree with you, especially if it gives you some more days of leave from work you can have at other times of year.

Yep. This is the perfect balance.

jeaux90 · 16/08/2022 18:43

For European holidays I agree. Perfect. For long haul, not so much.

hopeishere · 16/08/2022 18:44

We've done 7 and I just thinking we should have done 10 and as you say had a few days off before going back to work.

My sister does three weeks away!!

Shadowboy · 16/08/2022 18:45

Absolutely agree. 10 is perfect. 14 is a bit samey by the end.

Fatballs · 16/08/2022 18:47

We normally do 16-18 days for Europe and up to a month further afield, although we are currently planning a three week European road trip for 2024.
