AIBU?

To be really fucking annoyed with MY BIL?

QuestionableMouse · 14/08/2022 18:30

Making caramel at home today. Was just about done when he and my sister called in. I warned them both not to touch the bowl because it was still extremely hot.

Fucking muppet BIL sticks his finger straight in it. I genuinely can't believe he did it (he's the type to touch a gate with a wet paint sign to see if it's actually wet!)

Cue him screaming in pain and needing to be driven to A&E to get it seen to. No doubt he'll have to have time off sick from work, because he works in a wet fish shop and I don't see how he can work with a bandaged finger.

I'm annoyed because he's apparently blaming me for leaving the bowl out! Apparently saying "do not touch that, it's extremely hot", wasn't good enough.

I wouldn't even give this another thought. He was warned, he ignored that warning. It's not your fault he's an idiot.

Well, he's a right idiot, isn't he? Not your fault, his, silly boy.

I'd be annoyed with him for ruining the caramel. Who knows where his fingers have been. That's baking gone to waste.

That was my first thought! Hopefully OP had already used most of it!

What a plonker

Course he can go to work. Has he never heard of a plastic finger cover? I've worn one in food prep in the past. How long did he keep his finger in the caramel? Must have been ages if the idiot needs to go to A&E!!

Perhaps his head was up his arse when you warned him. It definitely was when he stuck his his finger in an obviously extremely hot bowl.
Dumbass.

Its because of people like your BIL that my office had to put up signs warning people not to out their fingers in the industrial shredder 🙄

How rude to stick your finger in someone else’s food whether it’s hot or not. Bloody idiot, he has no right to be annoyed with you, he should be apologising!

Caramel will stick to your finger and holds heat for a really long time. So even if he had the reflexes of a cat and pulled out India out, it would badly burn.

He is a massive bellend. Screw anyone who even implies this could be on you.

Oh he's ridiculous. Don't let him spout that shit.

I told you it was hot.
I told you not to touch it.
On repeat

In other news, coffee is hot, water is wet and shampoo isn't food.

He's what warning labels were made for although I secretly wish we'd Darwin Awards people like this.

Exactly. Who goes around sticking their fingers into peoples food?

I'd be mighty impressed if he'd pulled India out but yes, BIL is a bellend who deserves no sympathy.

Exactly. He’s sounds like an absolute arsehole. I would never touch food someone had made without asking.

What an absolute numpty! Serves him right.
For what it’s worth, I once made the mistake of scraping the wooden spoon I had been stirring caramel with when I was a teenager. It did really hurt and blistered up pretty dramatically, but absolutely did not need a visit to A & E, or even minor injuries.

Why didn't you get your husband to tell him. Clearly, no one listens to a warning given by a mere woman. 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

He's an idiot but I don't see why its gotten to you so much? I'd find it rather amusing if it were me. And I don't see why he couldn't go to work either.
