Comedians defending Jerry Sadowitz

His latest gig has been cancelled after he told racist jokes and got his dick out. Why are other comedians defending his right to do this? This behaviour is not ok, AIBU to think this is indecent and disgusting behaviour and the venue were correct in cancelling him.

The problem with these stories is the media rarely report on what was actually said or done so it’s hard to judge. You said he was racist but there’s no confirming that if the media doesn’t report what was said or done. It doesn’t even have to be exact but just describe it.

I imagine a lot of comedians aren’t aware of what was said and also worry about censorship. Hence their support.

I don’t know anything about the man.

Florenz · 13/08/2022 20:47

What did he actually say? I don't see a major problem with him getting his dick out on stage, as long as the show is for adults only. I wouldn't expect the easily offended to be going to see Jerry Sadowitz. He's been around for years, the type of act he does is well known to everyone. If there were families in the venue expecting a clean family-friendly comedian that would be a different story.

FenlandFuckwit · 13/08/2022 20:50

One audience member said: “I was at the show. He called Rishi Sunak a ‘p*’; said the economy was awful because it is run by ‘blacks and women’.

“He got his penis out to a woman in the front row. The problem was not the audience - I knew he was an acquired taste. It was his indefensible content”.

As above, it just seems like comedians are falling over themselves to defend him. Is getting your dick out in a public place acceptable to them?

From reading some of the tweets relating to this I think there may be an additional transphobic element to this which hasn't been reported.

CounsellorTroi · 13/08/2022 20:57

Which comedians are defending him? The article doesn’t say.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 13/08/2022 20:59

I’m usually the first person to defend being offensive with comedy but those jokes and committing a sexual crime are grim AF.

In terms of other comedians sticking up for him - they ALWAYS close ranks because they know when the time comes for THEM to tell an offensive joke, they won’t be seen as a hypocrite

AllyCatTown · 13/08/2022 20:59

If he regularly does it on stage I don’t see any issue with that and it’s well known what to expect. I assume it’s adults only. It’s not public like getting your dick out on the street it’s a performance.

achillestoes · 13/08/2022 21:01

Exposing himself on stage is grim.

Rainbowshit · 13/08/2022 21:01

I find the cognitive dissonance quite astonishing (not) that the same people who defended the creep getting his cock out in the wi spa incident are horrified that JS got his out on stage.

I couldn’t even list some of the stuff Jerry Sadowitz has joked about in the past without losing my account, yet people are only now wanting him cancelled…for joking about men becoming women? 🤯🤦‍♀️

(Am not suggesting for a second that I think he should be cancelled, btw)

It's annoying that they never say what the person has done. I read the BBC article and was none the wiser. Now I am. thanks to mn.

CatSpeakForDummies · 13/08/2022 21:36

I've seen him get his dick out during his show before- I think he was ranting about "unexpected item in the bagging area," and said "(rant).... I'll give them something unexpected (dick out), there - weren't expecting that were you!" I'm quite prudish normally, but it was funny - it's so completely OTT that he can hardly be inciting hatred or punching down or whatever.

CatSpeakForDummies · 13/08/2022 21:36

This was ten years or so ago, I don't know what was said in this show.

BoredofthisCrap7 · 13/08/2022 21:45

Saw Sadowitz at the Edinburgh Fringe about 25-30 years ago and he was getting his willy out even then. It's part of his act.
Actually, in real life he is nothing at all like his stage persona. DH's Uncle taught Jerry close up magic and used to take him to magic circle meetings. Apparently he is a very nice person!
His stage persona is all an act.

So you know what he's like. Why cancel him

orangeisthenewpuce · 13/08/2022 22:10

I don't care what he said. He shouldn't be cancelled.

dropthevipers · 13/08/2022 22:16

How can you not love someone who begins his debut appearance in Canada with.... "Good evening, moose fuckers".

badbaduncle · 13/08/2022 22:21

Wtf were they expecting?

First paragraph -- awful.

Second one -- how did he just get his dick out for ONE woman? Surely it was in front of the audience and everyone saw? I've been to the theatre before with nudity (saw Jack O'Connell's willy) and I felt like I got my money's worth 😂

NippyWoowoo · 13/08/2022 22:24

Excuse the strikes, no idea how that happened

Actual jaw drop. Then I realised I was thinking of Jack McConnell.

Awrite · 13/08/2022 22:26

I was utterly convinced Jerry Sadowitz had died in the 90's. Turns out he was blacklisted for being very vocal about Jimmy Savile's crimes. So I read anyway, when I learned he was still alive.

His stage persona is very clearly an act.

ClaudiusTheGod · 13/08/2022 23:35

I’ve scoured Twitter. Impossible to find out for certain what caused the cancellation which makes me think it’s probably trans related. Or that 3-letter thing which must not be named. On the day after Rushdie is stabbed we STILL can’t have freedom of speech.

JubileeTrifle · 13/08/2022 23:55

You don’t go to a male strip show and complain you’ve seen a willy. Same with JS.

Having been to the festival and seen comedy, I got the impression lots of the audience knew little about comedians and we’re just seeing ‘someone’.

Moose fuckers seems a long time ago.
