Comedians defending Jerry Sadowitz

His latest gig has been cancelled after he told racist jokes and got his dick out. Why are other comedians defending his right to do this? This behaviour is not ok, AIBU to think this is indecent and disgusting behaviour and the venue were correct in cancelling him.

Am I a total monster to have found most of that cip quite funny in a "Oh did he really just say that?" kind of way?

And yes, he skewers Jimmy Saville when no-one else would. He deserves a medal just for that.

LuftBalloons · 17/08/2022 12:06

Sorry, that was a response to @RosiePosie80 's post of an old clip of Jerry Sadowitz. What's interesting is he was as self-deprecatory & harsh towards himself, as he was to anyone else.

picklemewalnuts · 17/08/2022 12:56

It was a blast from the past, @LuftBalloons . I found it hard to keep up, as I hadn't heard the names in so long. It was reminiscent of Spitting Image, back in the day when that was considered edgy.

That's what I don't understand. We seem to have got simultaneously more extreme and more sanitised. It didn't take much to be scandalous 40 years ago. Now profanity, vulgarity and sexuality are very evident at all times, it's hard to shelter children in any way at all. Yet we police the content of an adult show.

I can't quite grasp it. Practically naked, swearing, gyrating celebrities on every hand, but let's not be offensive in a ticketed adult only show, or say anything that might make someone feel unsafe or hurt their feelings.

OneTC · 17/08/2022 13:13

It's because the only thing getting more binary is opinion. There's right ones, there's wrong ones, people can't deal with the complexity of things that are both things at once

Scianel · 17/08/2022 13:18

I've noticed a lot of the anti JS comments on twitter refer to him, specifically, getting his "60 year old" cock out. Which tells me a lot.

It's all very well being professionally offended about ableist slurs. However, take it from me, the less able are far more offended by steps, blocked accesses, broken lifts, no access to transport and the total lack of provision they experience every fucking day of their life.

Girl in wheelchair: Why can't I access that venue ?
Venue: We spent the money on a course for staff to be inclusive.

Is the TL;DR from an email trail I have

I try to understand. My child has a disability as well x

It's odd, isn't it?

Yes - it's more than odd, it's fucking offensive.

Maybe try living under the Taliban as a young girl, denied an education and felling ACTUALLY unsafe when they walk the street or try to set up secret schools for women.
Or try living in the Ukraine at the moment and popping to the shops for your groceries. Or having to flee your country because....well, you're ACTUALLY unsafe.

Going to a comedy gig, that you chose to attend, and getting a bit hurt at a comment, is not unsafe.
Take your unsafe, and your mandated "safe spaces" and piss right off.

Welcome to the camp!
I guess you all know why we're here.
My name is Tommy, and I became aware this year.
If you want to follow me,
You've got to play pinball.
So put in your earplugs,
Put on your eyeshades,
You know where to put the cork!

Ricky Gervais has always said that if you are going to say something controversial or possibly offensive, you have to be prepared to defend it. It’s not enough for those in the audience to say “I’m offended”. They have to say why and they have to prove that the comedian meant offence to whatever sensibility they offended. I’ve not actually seen what JS said or did to cause offence, but it really does come down to whether or not he can defend it.

MaryMcCarthy · 24/11/2022 09:02

Sadowitz has no interest in defending himself whatsoever.

He's offensive on purpose - racist, sexist, horribly crude, exposing his penis, for the sole reason that it's shocking, and therefore funny. If Sadowitz has to come out and literally explain it, he'll consider his act a failure. Same as any comedian who is forced to explain a joke. It's not about explaining. It's about freedom of expression and he's either free to express these things, or he's not.

Unless there has been a new development in this story why TF is someone commenting on it? @MNHQ this is so annoying

🧟‍♀️🧟‍♀️🧟‍♀️

HootyMcboob76 · 24/11/2022 09:29

However in light of the recent Jordan Gray "comedy" skit on TV where this TW exposed their penis to an unprepared studio audience and huge TV audience, where was the same level of backlash?
Where was the horror and "unsafe" comments from all those utterly horrified at Sadowitz's act? Gray exposed themselves to FAR more people, potentially children, than those who PAID to see Sadowitz's show where his penis is a known element and has been for 40 years.
In fact Gray had people rushing to defend Gray's right to do this.
Why has Gray not been banned from TV? Or are cocks only okay when they attached to a "lady"?

Came here to ask this very same question.

My thoughts would be that the people who are fans of and would therefore watch this person are a different group to the one who went to Sadowitz? Guess the penis didn't offend that group of people

Surely when an issue is still relevant and ongoing it shouldn't matter that the thread is old?
The other side of this is the 'ffs, OP, there's ALREADY a thread on this' brigade.
Just don't comment and scroll on.

Being a wheelchair user I wholeheartedly agree with this. Guess what, we can take a joke - tired of people ‘being offended on my behalf’ when they have little regard for the difficulties the disabled face every day..
