We have a freezer full of ice lollies, DH says I’m letting the kids have too many but I disagree, I think they could have more than they’ve had already in one day tbh, they’ve only had 2 each!

YANBU- they can have more than 2 each per day
YABU- 2 per day is plenty

I'd give ds 2 ice lollies but probably not 2 proper Ice creams!

Could you buy some ice lolly moulds and make your own out of blended fruit or squash?

luxxlisbon · 08/08/2022 19:56

What’s wrong with just 2?

Its been hot for weeks and it’s set to continue. 3+ ice creams every day for a month or 2 seems unnecessary. It’s different for a week on holiday or something.

BigYellowElephant · 08/08/2022 19:56

More than 2 is fine, assuming the plainer rocket lolly etc type. If they're like soleros or twisters etc I think 2 is enough as they're a lot more sugary

jewishmum · 08/08/2022 19:57

Mine had two small bowls of ice cream and one ice lolly today but she did ask for a second although I said no.

Queenofsummer · 08/08/2022 20:00

I wouldn't let me dc have more than one ice lolly/ice cream per day.

There are healthy alternatives that are nice in hot weather.

PrincessesRUs · 08/08/2022 20:00

Mine are having two a day but 1 is a frozen home made fruit lolly - it's literally just home made apple purée frozen in a mild, the other might be a mini milk or frozen yogurt or rocket type one

They are rockets and fruit pastel lollies and a few other normal plain ice lollies xx

I suppose it depends on the type really.

If it’s a particularly hot day then I’ll pre make ice lolly’s with 50/50 fruit juice and water (helps it to freeze and not go mushy) with some fruit pieces in, they can have probably 2 of them per day. Mine are quite happy to crunch on plain ice too. Also cutting large grapes in half then freezing is good, you can use them like ice in water to drink then eat them after.

If it were ice cream based I wouldn’t be encouraging more than 1/2 per week (mine are dairy free but the same applies, even home made).

Ice lollies, limitless pretty much. I've creams 2 or 3 a day max? But there is a cut off in the early evening in mind of dinner and bedtime.

ErmIDontKnow · 08/08/2022 20:03

I buy mine the Mr Freeze pops and they have 2 at a time easily 3 or 4 times a day whilst it's been so hot

This is a guide to the sugar in different ice lollies if you're interested.

Why doesnt your DH allow ice pops??

Eh? Why no icepops? I live off these in this type of weather and the Slush Puppie ones from the Poundshop are absolutely delicious (and about 10 calories!)

Surely the ice pops are better?

Anything else is just full of sugar isn't it? Unless you make your own of course.

No more than one a day here. It is often an excuse to get the kids out of the house - they go for a walk and we get a pack of ice lollies from Iceland to share!

And @SanFranBear , he says we can’t have them incase they make a mess, he says they are messy! I don’t agree with him tbh x

That’s an enormous amount of sugar. You can buy ice lollies made from natural ingredients which a far healthier. Or just buy ice lolly moulds and make your own out of watered down fruit juice.

I would say 1x per day of those kind of high sugar lollies would be too much.

Bemyclementine · 08/08/2022 20:09

The little ice pops are 6 calories each and less messy that an ice lolly!

Ice lollies/ice pops are just frozen squash really, aren't they?

How many glasses of cold squash do you allow your children on a hot day? Surely they can substitute frozen squash for cold squash as often as they like. (But personally I'd probably freeze them myself rather than buying in loads of premade ones). I'd allow them unlimited or as quick as I could refill and freeze the moulds.

Proper ice creams (magnum/cornetto etc) I'd probably only buy enough for a couple a week each.
