Could I be pregnant or have I lost the plot?

So, I’ve been a bit daft. Had a one night stand on July 19th. It was day 24 of my cycle and I was confident I had ovulated much earlier (on my usual day 14) as I’d had the ovuoation discharge then. So we had unprotected sex (I know, I know! I was drunk). Didn’t seem possible to me that I’d get PG from this. I also have endometriosis and both of my aunts who had it never concieved naturally, so I have a complex that I’ll never get pregnant (I feel maybe on a subconscious level that’s why I make stupid sexual decisions, because I don’t want to pass up a chance to get pregnant when my chances are so low).

Period came on cycle day 28, perfectly as expected. And absolutely normal and standard. A bit more painful than usual though (despite my endometriosis my periods are absolutely textbook usually, but there was one day I was in agony. I only have an endometriosis diagnosis because they saw it when I had my appendix out. I don’t get symptoms.). As all seemed fine didn’t think anything of it.

I’m now 2 days off my period. Last night my friend came over for drinks and bought mojito cans which I usually like. I took one sip and it just tasted WRONG. Like dishwater. It wasn’t a complete aversion though, I was still able to force it down as I couldn’t be bothered with the “OMG you must be pregnant!” from my friend.

This morning laying in bed half asleep I was swiftly fully awoken by an electric shock pain in one of my boobs. During my 2 hour lie-in this happened a good few times, in both breasts. When I got up it subsided. This NEVER happens to me. My breasts literally never get sore at any point in my cycle. It’s even weirder that it’s just after my period which is meant to be a calmer time hormonally. My boobs have been feeling heavy all day at work as well, to the point I felt like I was leaning forward from the weight.

I do remember my mum telling me donkeys years ago that her mum had ‘periods’ during her first pregnancy.

I’m wondering if anybody has had a similar experience and been PG or had it be something else, and what was it? I’m reluctant to go to the doctors as I’m currently living in Canada and am worried about costs.

Well I don’t mean to alarm you but my first symptom of pregnancy was alcohol tasting ‘wrong’, like poison tbh. However I never had any bleeding or period type bleeding. I think it’s very unlikely you’re pregnant but why not take a test and see?

You had unprotected sex so of course you could be pregnant.

Nobody on here can tell you so just do a test rather than messing about asking if anyone has had a similar experience. They may have but that has absolutely no bearing on your situation.

Only a test will tell you. How would you feel if you were?

Honestly I wouldn’t be devastated. Because of my endometriosis and knowing my aunties who have it never concieved naturally, I dread eventually meeting somebody and having to TTC. I dread having to deal with the heartbreak of infertility. I’ve always thought it’d be easy to end up with a ‘whoops’ baby so I don’t have to go through that. Knowing I’m very likely to be infertile when I want to TTC is a huge weight on my shoulders.

So I’m aware maybe I’m letting my emotions around the situation give me false hope that I’m pregnant. But my logical brain knows if I am pregnant I wouldn’t be in a position to keep it, I’m in a foreign country, have been here a month and the father would be a one night stand. My head is a mess tbh.

My symptoms are 100% real though. I’ve had similar pregnancy scares before but those were before my period came and I’d come on and that would be the end of it. This one is weird because the symptoms have been noticeable and even annoying, actively bothering me. But I had a period! I don’t understand.

But also because I was way past ovulation (so I thought) it didn’t occur to me I’d get pregnant. I only started thinking it because of the symptoms.

Certainly doesn't sound impossible - there's an easy way to find out though! Get a pink dye test if you can, the blue ones are more prone to showing indent lines.

FRERs are totally shit these days with indents before you even dip them but at this point a line should show clearly. Equally you could have Covid which is statistically more likely and makes things taste off.

Sorry to be a total bore but could you have covid? That effected my sense of taste and gave me loads of weird muscle aches and pains.

I'd also covid test and probably before I bothered with. PG test.

Why would you go to the doctors? Take a covid and pregnancy test. Hope you get the result you want x

My first thought was covid too. I'd be testing for that first if you have any at home, or buying both from the pharmacy.

I got pregnant from a one night stand many years ago. The only way I knew is because my boobs hurt and so i did a test.

Why not just buy a test? I'm so confused

Do you live in Canada or are you on holiday? You don’t need to see a doctor even if you are pregnant, just pee on a stick and find out.

I am living/working in Canada. I have a live in job on a fairly rural mountain resort. I’m off work tomorrow so will be driving 2 hours to the nearest city because whilst we have a tuck shop on the resort, they don’t sell pregnancy tests.

Just done a lateral flow covid test and looking negative!

Might be the start of COVID

Just spend a few dollars on a damned test and take it. There's no point working yourself into a lather on a what-if and the odds are against it. On the slim chance that it's positive, you can deal with it then.

Also, please take this as a wakeup call not to be so reckless with your sexual health; you're more likely to end up with a dose of the clap than a baby.

My boobs are agony at the moment. Laying on my front it feels like I’m being stabbed every minute. I’ve had to taken ibuprofen.
