To think some people on mumsnet are not from this world?

AmICrazy1 · 27/07/2022 00:07

Or rather most people on mumsnet. I’m shocked very often of how people react. I’m half way through reading a thread that’s 9 pages long and I’m gobsmacked by some of the comments. Seriously people cannot be living in the same world as me. I’m not gonna say what thread as I don’t want to draw attention to the poor OP whose having a hard time. I keep reading the comments and shocked. It’s not even a huge thing it’s an everyday question she/he asked.

at least 3 or 4 threads a week seem to be like this more and more I would say recently. Does anyone else feel like this?

OP posts:

Sometimes someone who isn't you will do, think, say, post, tweet etc. something that you would not have done, thought, said, posted or tweeted. It's kind of a basic of adulthood to accept and get over that.

RhubarbCheekbones · 27/07/2022 00:16

So you won’t specify the thread, the situation, or the type of comments that are outraging you, but we should be psychic and say whether we agree with you?

worraliberty · 27/07/2022 00:22

It's a massive website.

Some people are completely batshit, some are quite sensible, some are nasty, some are passive aggressive, some are proper wet lettuces and some are drama llamas.

No different to real life really, but the batshit-ness is what keeps me here 😁

Peashoots · 27/07/2022 00:24

@AmICrazy1 i see what you mean. People tend to react in the extreme on here, much more than in real life. Outraged/angry/shocked/rude/downright aggressive. Not really sure why? Maybe because they’d never dream of it in real life, so get all of their pent up frustrations out here 😁

SleepingStandingUp · 27/07/2022 00:27

I mean, I don't think most of them are aliens ...

Without SOME context it's really hard to know if yabu or not

I do think sometimes there can be a bit of a pile on and then posters chatting amongst themselves to carry it on. Just read one where it was a reverse. Most of the comments are "is it a reverse?" then "I hate reverses" "me too" "I never comment on a reverse thread" "no, the op is the worse of humanity, I can't believe I've wasted seconds of my life on this" etc. But I think people just get carried away inside an echo chamber

C0mfyChairP0se · 27/07/2022 00:28

I'm regularly shocked by the total lack of self awareness from posters taking a swipe at an OP. I'm not noting names never remember, but what emotionally healthy person wants to tell somebody that her problems are her own fault (or version of that judgement)

ChicCroissant · 27/07/2022 00:44

I'm regularly shocked by the number of people who take the OP's word as gospel when it's only one side of a situation.

Reverses are annoying because the OP is attempting to manipulate the responses.

Entwifery · 27/07/2022 00:47

I find people on here to be quite contrary, quick to make assumptions, accuse OPs of lying and be very sharp tongued. I just have to laugh it off as trolling now, as it's depressing to think people are actually like this!

Me, I'm strange anyway, I may as well embrace, my uniqueness and strangeness.

That said, I try to keep level headed perspectives.

TortolaParadise · 27/07/2022 01:17

Keyboard warriors and keyboard worriers!😑

FelixMadrigal · 27/07/2022 01:30

Yes! Really pedantic folk. I thought it was the heat, but that’s not an excuse anymore. People are just rude.

There isn't much point arguing that their word is wrong tho as you'll never find out

Whats the point of "DH is mean to me, what should I do?" "Well IS he ? We only have your word. Maybe he's nice".

Either answer the op or press the back button

Agreed. The number of LTBs I see with a tiny amount of information is shocking. I sometimes wonder how many people end up separated due to advice from keyboard warriers on MN. (I hope) people in real life don't go nuclear like they do on mumsnet.

Namerchangerextraordinaire · 27/07/2022 01:55

If you got to hear so many random peoples opinions offline on the same topic, you might be shocked to find that you hang out with likeminded people who are more likely to share & reinforce your beliefs.

There are many people out there living lives & having opinions that would equally shock you who wouldn't understand how you can think the way you do.

People like to live in a bubble, surrounding themselves with likeminded others who reinforce their own beliefs.
Doesn't mean that everyone else thinks that way.

You might be the one with the minority opinion.

ImustLearn2Cook · 27/07/2022 01:57

@AmICrazy1 I get where you are coming from. So many threads and I am blown away by how nasty some comments are and the resulting pile on. Then there are the most ridiculous assumptions being said with absolute certainty as if it were fact. You do have to wonder what planet some of these people are they from.

anonymoooose · 27/07/2022 02:18

Well from these responses I see exactly what you mean. Keyboard warriors 🙄

Ncfreely · 27/07/2022 02:34

I think this all the time. I have seen some of the most vile and spiteful comments on this site. It's like a competition to see who can be the most rude and offensive.

avamiah · 27/07/2022 02:40

I have been a member on here for many years, my daughter was a baby when I joined and she is a teenager next year so you can say I’ve pretty much read it all.lol

When you post a thread you will always get lots of replies and many of them you will not agree with , so if you can’t handle negative comments then you shouldn’t start a thread in the first place .

Not to mention shaking and sobbing...such a MN favorite.

Angelinflipflops · 27/07/2022 04:22

Different views don't really gob smack me

Turnthatoff · 27/07/2022 04:36

I’ve been a member for a long long time too and I agree it can be positively venomous here these days. Quite deliberately so.

ImustLearn2Cook · 27/07/2022 04:45

Yeah and I just love how being deliberately nasty, venomous, insulting and rude is made out to be a simple difference of opinion 🤣🤣🤣🤣

honkeytonkwoman38 · 27/07/2022 05:06

That's anonymous social media all over though. Have you been hiding under a rock?
