Shocked at price of London hotel rooms?

antelopevalley · 23/07/2022 02:08

I was thinking of organising a weekend away just for DP and me in London. But I am totally shocked at the price of hotel rooms. We would semi-regularly do this before the pandemic, but prices have soared since then. No way am I paying nearly £200 a night for a Travelodge room.

I've booked a room near kings cross at the Apollo kings Cross for 2 nights in august for £209 total. I used ebookers and that's for 2 adults and 2 children.

Look at different areas?

generalh · 23/07/2022 03:36

St Giles on Tottenham court Road

Redsquirrel5 · 23/07/2022 03:54

Airbnb?

Book WELL ahead at Premier Inn. The prices are great if you book in advance. Even better if you can go midweek or Sun to Tues as well.

Shivroyshair · 23/07/2022 04:54

Look at the Leonardo group of hotels. St. Paul’s is the nicest IMO ad it has a pool/spa and is accessible to all areas of London. Usually around £200pn at weekends, less during the week. If you have avios points you can use them to book on the ba website to reduce costs. Have a great trip!

colourmebladd · 23/07/2022 05:01

Try Premier Inn Hub.

PurpleFlower1983 · 23/07/2022 05:06

I know it’s crazy! We booked several two nights stays at Premier Inns in London for us and the kids pre pandemic, they’ve been moved a few times but now they have doubled in price! Pre kids I used to pay less for a Radisson in Leicester Square - crazy prices!

Caspianberg · 23/07/2022 05:07

Really? I would say many places are cheaper as well overseas visitors still, especially from Asia where restrictions still.

We stayed near Tower of London, in a 1 bedroom hotel suite, with separate living room and kitchen area. 2 adults, 1 child, £200 per night. Easily would have been double pre covid.

Riverlee · 23/07/2022 05:27

Not just London. We went to Poole a month or so back, and the prices had doubled to what we usually paid.

Porcupineintherough · 23/07/2022 05:37

Is it crazy? Presumably they need to attract and retain staff and pay them enough to survive in London. Plus the energy price increase etc

Soontobe60 · 23/07/2022 05:45

I’m going to London next week - Thursday to Saturday. 2 rooms in a Premier Inn for 5 people. £270 all in including breakfasts. The trick is to book well in advance.

moleeye · 23/07/2022 05:46

I've just booked one night at a travelodge in Eastbourne as we are going to visit friends. This is 4 weeks in advance.

2 adults, 2 children - £180!!!!!

I live in London, it's much cheaper

HandlebarLadyTash · 23/07/2022 05:48

I've been looking to book ahead in london with Premier inn and thought they had ncreased in price. I understand why but the rooms are quite basic and think it's overpriced. I used to regularly get the Stratford one for £55 or less and the Kings Cross one for £80 or less.

kateandme · 23/07/2022 06:17

Air bnb

NewJobOrOldJob · 23/07/2022 06:35

Not just London. All across the UK, hotel rooms that were nice, country house style hotels with spas for roughly £200 a night are easily £350 + now. Who the fuck is staying in all these expensive rooms?!

CornishGem1975 · 23/07/2022 06:36

I mean, it's a major city, it's pretty much the going rate. I just came back from the Netherlands and paid €260 euro for a hotel room, not even in a major city!

I've stayed at St Paul's one, I'll 2nd that it's nice, rooms comfy and just hope on tube or bus and you coukd be in West end very quickly

Verbena1 · 23/07/2022 07:34

Try the Bedford hotel, Near Russell Square. It’s an ugly modern monstrosity but it’s comfortable and I stayed for about £100 recently.

Whitney168 · 23/07/2022 07:44

Don't try Dublin then, I nearly fell off my chair ...

OneCup · 23/07/2022 07:49

I know. We used to have the odd weekend away but it may not happen anymore

thesunwillout · 23/07/2022 08:02

Definitely sky high in all places. Back in January I tried to book a Travelodge in Cardiff for July, the two mid week nights were 150 for both, then the Thurs night was 200 for one night!

I went to the Premier Inn at Archway a few weeks ago it was lovely. Great area and £200 for two nights.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/07/2022 08:09

Try the hotel 'W14 Kensington' we've stayed there (ideal for Olympic) and it was less than £120 including breakfast for two.

brighterthanaluckypenny · 23/07/2022 08:10

It's only £200 a night on Saturdays (sometimes Fridays) when booked last minute.

Book in advance and it's more like £100 a night, or during the week, £80.
