Well am I? My neighbours have just got oneone. As if it's not bad enough that it hums/buzzes constantly I have to listen to them in it every bloody night!! My only hope is once they realise how much it's costing in electricity they'll switch the damn thing off!

OP posts:
Feelfreetocallme · 22/07/2022 19:41

Hahaha. Can you hear it from inside your house? I used to vacate mine by eleven when I had one.

Ludo19 · 22/07/2022 19:54

Awful things.

SarahSissions · 22/07/2022 19:56

Tacky as anything. Unless you are a rapper on the up and haven’t got to the stage where you can have a pool party yet they are completely unacceptable.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 22/07/2022 19:57

I expect they'll all catch a horrible infection from it soon and never use it again.
Either that, or it'll get frogs and flies in it.

Nimo12 · 22/07/2022 20:03

You are definitely not being unreasonable! They're sooo loud!!

A580Hojas · 22/07/2022 20:10

Yanbu. We recently had a holiday in a rental that had a massive hot tub. We were there for a week and I didn't even go in it once. The teens loved it!

Royalbloo · 22/07/2022 20:12

They're so gross!

bluegardenflowers · 22/07/2022 20:22

Royalbloo · 22/07/2022 20:12

They're so gross!

No different from a swimming pool. If maintained and cleaned well, they are lovely experience for the family. ours is in the summerhouse, its massive and has massage jets and music built in. summerhouse is cosy with lovely twinkly lights. perfect with wine.

StoneofDestiny · 22/07/2022 20:22

Don't see any attraction in sitting in a tub of hot water all night with or without others sharing the same water - ugh

Cornettoninja · 22/07/2022 20:24

Yeah, I’m not a fan. I wouldn’t use one personally so am starting from a biased position but the house near is that has one ends up bellowing any conversation they’re having because the damn thing is so loud. It was a nightly thing for the first fortnight or so they had it.

Diangled · 22/07/2022 20:25

I love mine. If you keep the water topped up
and clean they’re fine. A good cover will keep the temp regulated (& prevent the frogs / flies!) & therefore cost less than perhaps people realise. Such snobbery around them. Definitely not gross.

Saying that mine is quite small and as far from neighbours gardens as possible and we have large gardens.

The filter cleans twice a day & that does make a low grade noise. You can pick the times though for that to happen to make it more neighbour friendly. My neighbours dog makes more noise.

My husband died last year & I find it so therapeutic to sit in there with my kindle and a drink in the evening when the children are in bed

I do keep a watchful eye on the electricity usage as we try very hard to make compromises in other areas to compensate.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 22/07/2022 20:31

So gross. Supposedly a selling point on a weekend away I'm going with my in-laws.

I don't want a bath with my FIL thank you very much, or with my SIL's husband. Vom.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 22/07/2022 20:33

I'm not sure how these abominations work. Do you fill it once then put inert , poisonous chemicals in ( ie chlorine) once or do they need refilling?
If they need refilling , let's pray for a hosepipe ban.

A neighbour, with a tiny garden has one of these delights. That's all they have... a giant pool, no garden for their children but have squeezed a tiki bar in for the adults.
They're barely in their garden apart from very warm days!
Bonkers!

LemoniaLemon · 22/07/2022 20:35

I'm just back from a break away in a cabin with a small wood fired hot tub with fresh spring water and it was bliss.

Never been a fan of them til that one.

BarrelOfOtters2 · 22/07/2022 20:38

We moved because of our neighbour’s hot tub. They were so loud when using it, in a terrace…just arseholes.

Goesbothways · 22/07/2022 20:40

My friend has one. We went in it at 11pm in early January in a gale and it was lovely. But my skin was wrecked for days

CadburyCrunchy · 22/07/2022 20:41

Hot tubs are full of germs and bacteria, I don't know how loads of people are happy to sit in all that hot dirty water together for hours...

fizzywat · 22/07/2022 20:42

Sleazy wet noisy monsters. You know the type...

bellalou1234 · 22/07/2022 20:43

Awful my friend loves hers, I've been twice its like getting in a bath with her and her kids for a few hours. The prosecco is even more potent then I get a taxi home cold, shrivelled and disoriented

jollygoose · 22/07/2022 20:47

My neighbour installed one yesterday inches from my back door is already annoying me. I am not going to be able to sit in the garden without having to listen to the electrical hum so yanbu I am wondering if it's possible to sabotage the thing

BerthaBetty · 22/07/2022 20:49

Awful. In my last house my neighbour (semi detached) had one. It was to the right of our bedroom window at the back, so more or less under the window. He denied that he could hear the buzzing when I asked if he could switch it off overnight.

Eventually it was covered up and became a pigeon bath full of bird shit. Scruffs.

TheChosenTwo · 22/07/2022 20:53

Yanbu to hate them but I love mine!
We have big gardens and it’s far from neighbours, I asked both sides if it was bothering them and one side didn’t know we’d had one at all, the other side said it wasn’t causing any problems at all.
It’s pretty much only me that uses it although we dropped the temperature on it while it was scorching weather and everyone was in it over the last few weeks.
I love it, never wanted one until we stayed in a holiday house with one in and it was so relaxing sitting out there with my book.
I don’t use it ‘late’ just in case it does disturb anyone and I don’t use the speaker it has integrated in it. It’s perfectly cleaned and well maintained, crystal clear water and balanced fine. Empty and refilled every couple of months.
Love mine but not everyone does and that’s fine, I don’t particularly want anyone else getting in it either!

Mum2jenny · 22/07/2022 20:54

I’d love one, but do not have a sensible position for one.

carefullycourageous · 22/07/2022 20:56

They are pretty grim. I would love a proper sauna in my house, but a hot tub does not do it for me.

Tequilamockinbird · 22/07/2022 21:01

I don't mind the 'proper' hot tubs like the ones installed outside woodland lodges.

But those awful inflatable sex ponds which are sold in B&M etc are bloody awful:
