Well am I? My neighbours have just got oneone. As if it's not bad enough that it hums/buzzes constantly I have to listen to them in it every bloody night!! My only hope is once they realise how much it's costing in electricity they'll switch the damn thing off!

My neighbours have had one for a few months and I hate it. They ripped up half the hedge to put this massive privacy fence in that dominates my garden now.
I can't sit on my patio at the back of the house without hearing the constant hum. I did ask if it had to be on all the time and was told it was only £20 a day to keep it going all the time but £80 to heat it up from scratch. I don't think they've used it in months.

I can only think of it as a sex pond full of colon soup Envy

I don't mind the 'proper' hot tubs like the ones installed outside woodland lodges.

But those awful inflatable sex ponds which are sold in B&M etc are bloody awful:

Came here to say the same!
I love a weekend break in a lodge with a proper hot tub. One that has jets that properly pummel your muscles.
I know several people that say they have a hot tub.. when it is an inflatable from The Range.

I think it's pretty selfish to have one unless your house is detached. I'm in a semi & the damn thing is right up against my fence. I can't sit in my garden now for the noise 😡

Our next door neighbours got a hot tub just before Christmas. We're both detached houses, but they've put it right up against the fence, and quite near their house.

Their garden is a bit higher than ours. Our house is close to the fence, so basically every time I look out of my bedroom window, there is the hot tub. It feels really intrusive.

The wife has one of those voices and laughs that really carries, so you can hear every word she says when she's in it. And their teenage daughter is often in it with friends until past 11pm, with music blaring out.

I fucking hate it. Every time I see that the lid is open, my heart sinks.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 22/07/2022 22:00

Love a hot tub! I don’t have one but always book accom with one

bluegardenflowers · 22/07/2022 22:01

@Itsnotwhatitlookslike Well say that to people using swimming pools. You may have an arse covered in poo, but I don't. And it's only my family that use our jacuzzi..

madasawethen · 22/07/2022 22:19

Love a proper one that is well maintained.
Planning to get one installed after my move. There's plenty of space for one.

Krabapple · 22/07/2022 22:23

I love mine

lljkk · 22/07/2022 22:25

I grew up using redwood ones & find the MN horror funny. Outdoor jacuzzis are great, especially when skiing.

Expectalot · 22/07/2022 22:51

Having one on holiday is completely different, if you like that sort of thing. I have misophonia & the buzzing noise is driving me insane

Ours is a solid hard standing one with massage jets in the beds and the seats.
It’s lovely on the area where I slipped discs a few years ago and still get nerve pain in that area.
A friend has an inflatable one that she invited me round to use; it’s absolutely fine, but doesn’t hold the heat very well, it was pretty cold after an hour or so. But in terms of comfort etc, obviously you don’t have the beds or even seats (well maybe you do In some inflatable ones but none that I’ve seen), it’s okay.
Ours seems to retain heat very well even with the lid open and all the jets running. It’s lovely when it snows!
As I said, no one is BU for not liking them or not wanting one but then, much like me and cruises or all inclusive holidays - just don’t get one!

GirlOfTudor · 22/07/2022 23:06

They're tacky in my opinion. How they're so popular with the cost of energy to run one; I don't understand!

heyitsthistle · 22/07/2022 23:09

I like hot tubs but only in cool or cold weather (snow is ideal) but without the bubbles.

I guess I like a hot bath outdoors with lights.

chipsnmayo · 22/07/2022 23:18

We have one, but we are only in it for about 30mins like once a week and I turn it on during the work day when my neighbours are at work / school, then turn it off in the evening, my neighbours have young kids so we are never out in it late. Their kids scream and carry on in the garden from time to time so I would say we are about even! I have RSI and its great for my shoulders.

I think its all about being respectful..

bloodyplanes · 22/07/2022 23:27

I got one last year, its lasted about a month! Absolute pain in the arse to maintain, they eat electricity and it gets pretty boring pretty quickly!

bellsbuss · 22/07/2022 23:35

We turned the temperature down on ours this week and it's been bliss getting in it to cool down. I don't get the hatred on mn for them , I know lots of people with them.

Thethingswedoforlove · 22/07/2022 23:52

@LemoniaLemon sounds blissful. Do you mind sharing where? A cabin is my favourite type of accommodation and I’m always on the lookout for good recommendations

Yabado · 23/07/2022 00:15

We have a “ proper one “ 😂
it’s a big 6 seater with 2 loungers 60odd jets

We don’t use it late but normally about 45 mins a day around about 7-8pm

Sometimes we use it in the daytime and last week it was amazing in the hot weather as we dropped the temperature and pretty much spent the two days of sunshine in the hottub and garden

Ours cost about 25 a week to run on top of our normal
electric
which is the cost of a meal out at £100 a month
we don’t smoke don’t drink or have gym memberships which if both of us did the above it would cost more than £100 so we can easily afford it even with the rise in October

Its maintained daily with chlorine granules so easy to do

The blow up ones make a lot of noise and they don’t retain the heat very well

BritWifeInUSA · 23/07/2022 00:33

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 22/07/2022 19:57

I expect they'll all catch a horrible infection from it soon and never use it again.
Either that, or it'll get frogs and flies in it.

Why would they? You can only catch an infection if there’s one there to catch so if one of them has an infection I suspect that the other already has it, given that they probably sleep in the same bed, have sex, etc.

They are as clean, if not cleaner, than a swimming pool. They have the same filtration system and use chlorine etc just like a pool. We have a hot tub and a pool - neither is inflatable. They are built into the deck area we have at the back and they are cleaned regularly. They work in the same way when it comes to filtration. We also replace the water a few times a year. Or are you assuming everyone has an inflatable thing?

Not everyone is struggling with the cost, I suppose.

JudithandHolofernesHead · 23/07/2022 00:47

I don't see the point of them? I don't find them relaxing at all.

If I were to move house, I'll be looking out of hot tubs in the neighbouring gardens! It might be a deal breaker!

YANBU they are loud buzzing things, anyone with any sense of neighbourly though wouldn’t locate it near the fence. Proper built in ones not the inflatable nonsense can be built on a way to reduce vibration and dampen sound, the inflatable ones not so much.

also most people don’t care for them properly and they just fester in a pool of chlamydia soup

70billionthnamechange · 23/07/2022 06:57

It's rank in principle but once pissed I'm a big fan 😂

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 22/07/2022 20:31

So gross. Supposedly a selling point on a weekend away I'm going with my in-laws.

I don't want a bath with my FIL thank you very much, or with my SIL's husband. Vom.

😂😂

Mollyplop999 · 23/07/2022 07:01

Our neighbours had one and because of how loud they had to speak to be heard it was a nightmare. We actually heard them say that they were putting their 3 kids in to save giving the a bath. Just gross. And smell of chemicals drifting over the fence every night. Thankfully they moved last year.

iloveyankeecandle · 23/07/2022 07:28

Sex ponds. Ick.
