Well am I? My neighbours have just got oneone. As if it's not bad enough that it hums/buzzes constantly I have to listen to them in it every bloody night!! My only hope is once they realise how much it's costing in electricity they'll switch the damn thing off!

We have one but it’s for the kids.

can’t imagine wanting to take a bath with my friends.

Ledkr · 22/07/2022 21:02

They aren't grim if looked after properly and we don't have ours on bubbles or filtwr later in the day so we don't annoy our neighbours.
Last week it was 38 degrees here, we obviously didn't heat it and jumped in as soon as I got.in from work..it was my saving grace and the kids after school.
I don't see why they are so hated on here.. you don't have to get one 🤔

Expectalot · 22/07/2022 21:05

I think it's pretty selfish to have one unless your house is detached. I'm in a semi & the damn thing is right up against my fence. I can't sit in my garden now for the noise 😡

I would love one but don't have a suitable outside space or want to pay for the electricity for one.

I used to go to the spa pool (basically a huge jacuzzi) in my local leisure centre a couple of times a week before lockdown and it really helped with my fibro pain as well as being really relaxing. If I timed it right (7am when it opened) it was almost always empty but I hated it when it was busy.

No different from a swimming pool. If maintained and cleaned well, they are lovely experience for the family. ours is in the summerhouse, its massive and has massage jets and music built in. summerhouse is cosy with lovely twinkly lights. perfect with wine.

...can I come over? Thats my idea of heaven

ellieboolou · 22/07/2022 21:11

They are lovely if you have a BIG garden / summerhouse and have no one either side, one shoved in a smallish garden in a row of semi's or terraces then I agree they are awful.

Moonface123 · 22/07/2022 21:12

They are listed as one of the most annoying things re neighbours and noise nuisance.
There was a really good episode of Murder in Mind involving a neighbour at the end of his tether with the very loud family next door and their hot tub.

BalloonsAndWhistles · 22/07/2022 21:12

Everyone on MN must have super sensitive hearing because I never hear my neighbour’s hot tub.

stillherenow · 22/07/2022 21:13

Try a wood fired one. Every single hot day my garden is covered in smoke. Fuckers

DottyLittleRainbow · 22/07/2022 21:14

We treated ourselves to a small inflatable one during covid, I work for the NHS and it was such a stressful time I wanted to get something nice for the kids as we had so many cancelled plans and holidays. Neighbours didn’t mind (constant insane noise levels from all of them), and honestly it was a sanity saver for me some evenings.

Not for everyone but doesn’t make me disgusting and nor is it a sex pond..

We plan to put ours up just for a few weeks of the summer holidays this year due to the electricity costs but no holiday for us this year.

Hobele · 22/07/2022 21:15

I love my hot tub. Drowns out the kids' noise. It was my sanctuary during Covid, nicely bleached all germs off my skin.

reddA · 22/07/2022 21:16

One got delivered to my neighbour the day after the Cost Of Living payment came through (irony) installed right next to my fence/home office 😫

RachelGreep87 · 22/07/2022 21:17

Amoral pits

@bebellalou1234 can't stop laughing at your post - you've summed up my hot tub experiences perfectly 🤣

Also loving 'sex pond'. I won't be able to think of them in the same way again!

YomAsalYomBasal · 22/07/2022 21:24

Well you can hate them if you want, your prerogative! I love ours, it's been vital for doing physiotherapy with my severely disabled daughter while the NHS hasn't been able to provide any during covid. I have it as far away from my neighbours as possible. Didn't realise there was so much hate for them until I read this thread Grin

CaptainBeakyandhisband · 22/07/2022 21:24

Can’t believe we’ve got this far though the thread and nobody has declared the hot tub a ‘chavvy sex pond’ yet

Ladywiddio · 22/07/2022 21:25

They are a fad, already going out of fashion. The noise they make is awful and the idea of sitting in close proximity to others in a warm bath does not appeal.Think of the germs getting nicely warm and multiplying merrily, yuck!

The ones at my gym are popular,I never go in.

I rented a holiday cottage recently with one,my grandson loved it,it cost a good bit extra to have a cottage with a hot tub, wouldn’t bother again. Then I had all the water trodden indoors and loads of towels to dry.We didn’t get any bugs though, the owners had someone coming around keeping all the hot tubs well maintained.

Nah,,definitely don’t like them!

fluffiphlox · 22/07/2022 21:26

So naff.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 22/07/2022 21:27

We recently stayed in a hotel and our suite had a private hot tub and it was amazing. DH and I used it one night then we were joined by sister and SIL and we had a fab time.

Now looking forward to going away with family next year and it was a must that the house we booked had a hot tub!

However it means someone else is cleaning it and paying for it and I wouldn't want one at home as we live in a terrace. I'd be furious if a neighbour got one.

I do keep teasing my parents as their garden is perfect for a hot tub. Detached, huge garden and not overlooked at the back at all.

Coffeeenema · 22/07/2022 21:31

I call them UTI tubs.

user1471462428 · 22/07/2022 21:34

@BarrelOfOtters2 we also moved because of insane neighbour in a hot tubs. Ugh.

But detached houses also have fences with neighbours the other side ? I've got a hot tub in a semi and a small garden. It's the best thing I ever bought. I love it. I have to listen to everyone else enjoying their gardens and I don't mind. Shouldn't think a hum and a bit of whooshing for an hour a night will bother them that much !

TheKeatingFive · 22/07/2022 21:42

I love a sex pond.

But they're like catnip to Mumsnetters, given their capacity to unite hygiene hysteria, looking down on the chavs and a pathological interest in what others are doing in their own gardens. Triple whammy.

LittleMissA · 22/07/2022 21:46

The guy opposite us has a hot tub, we don't hear the actual hot tub but it must affect his hearing as I've heard all his phone calls from it and can hear every word of his music! He does usually quieten down around 10pm so can't really complain.
