YouGov poll among Tory Party members show she's smashing Sunak 62% to 38%

I despair......I really do. 🤦‍♀️

thegcatsmother · 21/07/2022 20:23

I'll bite. Why do you despair?

deliciouschilli · 21/07/2022 20:26

Nope, she's a remainer...it will be Theresa May all over again.

RudsyFarmer · 21/07/2022 20:27

Out of the two of them I’d rather have her.

StupidUsernameUnavailable · 21/07/2022 20:27

@thegcatsmother

Have you read her proposed policies?

Heard her speak publicly?

OP posts:
SwelegantParty · 21/07/2022 20:28

On a positive note, it will probably be easier for Labour to beat her than Rishi at the next election....

Quitelikeit · 21/07/2022 20:28

Tell you what. 6 men control 80% of the U.K. media.

very bizarre how the whole time it was Sunak in the lead and no shock to me they have changed tack in the last day!!

the clearly used Sunak to get Bojo out. Now they want Truss.

I like the fact New Zealand refuse to give Rupert Murdoch any sort of license to operate out there!!

Glencanto · 21/07/2022 20:29

I doubt Truss can even spell ‘PM’.

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 21/07/2022 20:33

Yeah, it’s not great is it. She’s a Maggie Thatcher cosplayer with not much going on behind the eyes is thick as mince with a “working class made good” backstory that sounds like bollocks to me and a string of racy affairs behind her that makes it look like she’s competing with BloJo for dodginess. Oh and she was apparently a LibDem previously which is a bit weird for someone who wants to be Conservative prime minister.

I’m no fan of Rishi’s, but he at least sounds like he’s got a brain in his head rather than Homer Simpson’s cymbal-playing monkey. It’s like the Tories have got a death wish at this point, which is fine by me but I do worry about the further damage that might be done to the nation before a we get a General Election.

balalake · 21/07/2022 20:37

Polls can be wrong. Let us hope this one turns out to be.

I want the least worst option, because there is no guarantee of a non-Tory government in 2024, and even if there was, a lot can happen in two years. I think not only would Rishi Sunak be less bad, there might be a better or less bad cabinet as a result. Of the Johnson cabinet of a month ago, were I forming a Tory government, there is only Ben Wallace I would keep.

thegcatsmother · 21/07/2022 20:37

Truss however knows that a woman = an adult human female. She had involvement in freeing the British prisoners from Iran.

Yes, she voted Remain, but she seems to be on board with Brexit now. I'd prefer her to Rishi....she hasn't always been insulated by wealth.

the80sweregreat · 21/07/2022 20:42

There is still time for her to trip up a bit !
I looked up the MP she had an affair with in 05 and he looks a bit odd , not sure what she saw in him to be honest! (Although I know I'm no oil painting myself and he might have a nice personality...)
I guess many of the members won't vote for Sunak as they may see him as a traitor
I had to U tube the infamous 'cheese speech' in 2014 , she sounded much more confident then , but also came across as a bit smug too. Waiting for the applause.
I don't like her policies at all , I think that if the financial people are saying it's a bad idea then it probably is. Borrowing more money and tax cuts ? All a bit strange even if Patrick Minton thinks its sound.

She’s on board with whatever is convenient to her at the time. She was a Lib Dem, now a Tory. She was a republican, now a monarchist. She was a remainer, now a Brexiteer.

The right wing press want her as PM because she’s so weak willed and malleable that she’ll do whatever they ask.

A truly gutless, unprincipled, empty-headed, charisma-vacuum of a human being.

the80sweregreat · 21/07/2022 20:45

Her dad was a university professor and her mum worked too, I doubt she was brought up in poverty even if she is quick to diss her old comp. she might not be as wealthy as Sunak ( his really on his on own in the wealth stakes) but she will still be another one who won't know what it's like to be properly poor or really care
She is just another self serving Tory out for all she can get.

StupidUsernameUnavailable · 21/07/2022 20:45

Pork markets is better.

Absolutely

the80sweregreat · 21/07/2022 20:48

I've not watched the pork markets one yet.
I've just woken up from the cheese one!
People are quick to diss Rishi sunak over his pandemic spending , but Boris Johnson also signed it off too. It wasn't all him deciding these things.
He won't win anyway, they may as well just let her have the job :(

PlanetNormal · 21/07/2022 20:52

I hope Truss does win. She is utterly ghastly with her ridiculous fake-Thatcher cosplay and she will be a gift to Labour.

Sunak may be a super-rich ex-banker, but he comes across as the sort of nice, polite well brought-up young man you would like your daughter to marry.

DowningStreetParty · 21/07/2022 20:56

Truss has a reputation for shocking incompetence. It’s terrifying she could become PM. We’ve got a massive cost of living and fuel crisis, likely to go into a massive recession, there is ongoing war in Ukraine, a environmental catastrophe to sort out. Liz Truss is not up to dealing with any one of these things. I don’t fancy Rishi Sunak’s chances either.

I just want a general election and feel completely disgusted that Johnson didn’t just resign properly and leave Downing Street when he should have done. He’ll be strolling right back into power if Truss gets in.

The cosplay is just crazy. Why does she think playing dress-up, at serious public events like debates, is appropriate? She should have been laughed off the stage.

ThinWomansBrain · 21/07/2022 20:58

According to Truss on the Todat program this morning, she has:
saved the free world
Saved Ukraine
Resolved the NI/Brexit issue
Completed dozens of trade deal (yeah, we can imort lots of CHEESE)

Her nose must be longer than Johnson's - and that's before she's PM

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/07/2022 21:03

Johnson would love it if she gets in, because she'll probably have him right back in the cabinet.

She is very odd - dim?drunk? drugged?ill? Her speeches are obviously scripted and choreographed but she comes across like an alien attempting to look human. The pork one with the creepy smile is especially terrifying.

As for the OP - you're right to despair and should go on despairing until Labour/Lib Dem sort themselves out and unite and there's a GE.

the80sweregreat · 21/07/2022 21:03

I wasn't a fan of Mrs Thatcher ( a person who didn't vote for her in the south East !) but she wasn't fake and stuck by her principals for good and bad.
Liz Truss is a female Boris Johnson , bends to whatever or whoever might make her popular
I'm actually dreading two years of seeing her around in the spotlight tbh :(
She'll be easily manipulated too I think. Smug and she'll become incredibly arrogant too no doubt. I'm sure Boris Johnson won't go away either , hasta la vista , I'll be back ..
it's all a bit depressing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/07/2022 21:06

Her Instagram site is like a series of Mr Benn.

the80sweregreat · 21/07/2022 21:06

She bigs herself up. I know they all do this and it goes with the territory , but I also can't respect someone who will end up lecturing us on climate change yet it cost the tax payers half a mill for a private jet so she could go to Australia to broker trade deals. Why couldn't she fly commercial ?

ChristmasLightsAndSparkles · 21/07/2022 21:09

I really don't see why her being a Lib Dem when she was at Uni 25 years ago is a problem Confused.

Isn't it a good thing for someone to actually think about politics themselves, and potentially change their mind as their understanding grows?

I prefer that to someone who is so privileged and tribal that they couldn't imagine being anything but Conservative from childhood.
