YouGov poll among Tory Party members show she's smashing Sunak 62% to 38%

I despair......I really do. 🤦‍♀️

I really don't see why her being a Lib Dem when she was at Uni 25 years ago is a problem Confused.

Isn't it a good thing for someone to actually think about politics themselves, and potentially change their mind as their understanding grows?

I prefer that to someone who is so privileged and tribal that they couldn't imagine being anything but Conservative from childhood.

I'd admire her more if she'd changed from Tory to Lib tbh. Becoming more bigoted as one ages isn't a great look and doesn't show much 'understanding' developing, other than of how to serve oneself.

ChristmasLightsAndSparkles · 21/07/2022 21:15

"If a person is not a liberal when he is twenty, he has no heart; if he is not a conservative when he is forty, he has no head."

(often misattributed to Winston Churchill)

the80sweregreat · 21/07/2022 21:17

In the 'cheese speech' ( 2014) she is almost sneering at her own parents for having different views and bringing her up in a left wing environment . it might not be her bag now, but it feels as if she is kicking against that almost?

Many politicians change allegiance, so I can sort of forgive this, but other things she has changed her mind on too. It doesn't feel as if she has very stable personality? I think she could become a power crazy too ?
I'm scared I'm going to dislike her more than I did Boris Johnson.

MarshaBradyo · 21/07/2022 21:19

I found her hard to take in first debate

Better in second

Fine on R4 this morning

I have no issue with her voice, and anything about creepy smiles etc just reminds of attacks on Clinton which were misogynistic

By biggest concern is high debt and servicing that, it’s the candidates policies I care about not what they look like or wear - lots about her outfit too

the80sweregreat · 21/07/2022 21:30

She'll get a harder time of it because she is a woman, had an affair once and was once 'remain'.
Her policies are pretty bad and that's what I'm interested in : it's all fairy tale politics and borrowing , tax cuts etc isn't the way to go at the moment. I think people are just carried away on the small state and she might see it as popular rather than what the county needs at the moment.
It's just carrying on Boris Johnson's polices
Which is why she'll win. (Just my opinion and what I've read )

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/07/2022 21:31

This is ridiculous.

Her smile after the pork comment is creepy. It would be creepy if she was male too. It's awkward and smug and strangely lingering and, I maintain, creepy as fuck.

lljkk · 21/07/2022 21:31

She'll be PM while the Inquiry hears all the mistakes govt made during pandemic. She'll take brunt of that bad news. Suits many powers for Truss to be bad guy. I suppose most conservative party members don't care about inflation.

Rest of us will suffer while inflation soars, of course.

MarshaBradyo · 21/07/2022 21:32

Johnson was such a spender though, I’m not sure she will be?

In that sense I’m glad he’s gone, it was ramping up probably due to partygate etc but it was concerning to see

I disagree

Femaie politicians always get this - their smiles are wrong

Clinton had it in spades

Just focus on policies

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/07/2022 21:35

Well her policies appear to be that she hasn't really got any policies.

Blossomtoes · 21/07/2022 21:37

Glencanto · 21/07/2022 20:29

I doubt Truss can even spell ‘PM’.

Oh, why haven’t we got a like button?

the80sweregreat · 21/07/2022 21:37

The conservative faithful will be able to suck up higher prices and inflation or maybe cut back on their cleaner or pool person or one less holiday next year. They might have a whinge , but they can carry on. It'll be the poorer again that will really suffer.
Labour haven't got it rosy with their leader either , many allegations about his previous job are circulating too ( Twitter ) and many people I know just don't like him either. I think they could do with someone new as well !

Jennybeans401 · 21/07/2022 21:40

Both are not ideal. What was it Boris called Keir Starmer, a human bollard? I really think the human bollard looks goid at the moment.

misteek · 21/07/2022 21:43

I very much doubt that the conservatives have polled their members!
the real vote doesnt start until the 1st of august,

hobbledyhoy · 21/07/2022 21:43

I think it's hilarious. With Truss as PM and that hideous pork market speech trending on twitter from then until the general election then it'll pretty much guarantee their defeat. Bring it on.

the80sweregreat · 21/07/2022 21:50

A caller on lbc asked Jeremy Hunt how many members the conservatives have that can vote on the two candidates..
He wasn't sure ! Why doesn't anyone know the exact figure ? Surely there must be a HQ somewhere sending out the yearly round Robins and Christmas cards ? A list from each conservative club of those who can have a vote?
They have to send out the voting cards to each house. It seems weird it's between 160,000 to 200,000?
Anyway, it does look as if it'll be Liz Truss.

Of course it is. This place is way too ready to fling accusations of misogyny and racism about.

I don’t think anyone is claiming that the Conservatives have polled their members?

However, Truss has consistently ranked as the membership’s most popular cabinet member and the lead in the YouGov poll is pretty huge.

Its far from done and dusted, but she has to be the strong favourite.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 21/07/2022 21:55

No. No. No. No. No

I can see why you’d say that after the Kemi thread. It was enlightening for a fair few

Women absolutely get it much worse than male politicians - too robotic, too old looking, wrong outfit, wrong smile

It’s all there in posts and across SM, it’s not hard to find

It’s tough to overcome but it can be done fortunately

Blossomtoes · 21/07/2022 21:59

@Blossomtoes

I think Rishi pretending to fill 'his' car up with petrol at a supermarket, or talking about the need for several types of bread, is creepy too - maybe I'm not supposed to say that either, for fear of being Rishi-ist.

They're both shit, but I think Truss is shitter for sticking with Johnson when he should've been pushed straight out after his sham 'resignation'.

FishAndChipps · 21/07/2022 22:03

She’s the woman who pissed Russia/Putin off wasn’t she ? Great 😱 if she wins we might end up obliterated !!

Not his looks though

ok you think it’s fine go for it

It’s a shame imo women always get the smile type accusations as Clinton did, or what they wear

It’s constant for women which is the wrong focus imo but there you go
