To ask of those of your 'cursed' with chin hairs, do they behave like this?!

I've had chin hairs since my mid 20s. I have had tests, hormone checks etc, no known cause. I am getting laser now (I'm 40) and it is helping but not massively yet-up until I decided to do this I just plucked.

Anyway, I have found in the last few years that if I squeeze around the base of some of the hairs, they just 'pop out'. Similar to if one squeezes a blackhead. It is as if they're not 'anchored' or have a proper follicle, I can squish them out and they look like tiny little strands of dark hair.

Not all of them do this, some of them are definitely 'proper' hairs. But some of them do.
Am I alone?

I have one that regrows in the same spot. I pluck it out as soon as I feel it poke through.

NoLongerATeacher · 16/07/2022 20:53

No mine don’t pop out - sorry. Like previous poster I have had one for years grow in the same spot under my chin he used to be black but now he’s grey - I’m quite fond of him and say sorry darling you gotta go each time I pluck him 😂

Merryoldgoat · 16/07/2022 20:55

Some of mine do, some have roots like teeth -they can look like eyebrows.

A weekend joy is a through pluck.

Merryoldgoat · 16/07/2022 20:55

The neck ones are really horrid.

Also some are going grey. So that’s nice.

functioningadult · 16/07/2022 20:57

This happens to me. I don’t know why though.

Squashedraddish · 16/07/2022 20:58

This happens to me too! Like they’re kind of stuck in there and just pop out if I squeeze them. You can see them under the skin. I hate them!

TwiggletLover · 16/07/2022 20:59

I'd always thought it was fairly common for woman to get a few chin hairs. I'm surprised that a doctor would do tests to try and find a cause

QuestionableMouse · 16/07/2022 21:00

I get the same. They look like little black dots under my skin and come out like fragments of hair.

I have a lot more than a few, and my head hair is very fine and fair.

I wasn't asking if it were common to have chin hairs, more so if it were common for them to be susceptible to being squeezed out.

Yes I have two that do this. I only discovered they do that because one was so close to the surface it almost looked like a splinter and the other just a black dot. Very odd.

PassMeThePineapple · 16/07/2022 21:09

I don't get that where they pop out. I have to pull them out. Some put up a fight but I've got a light up magnifying mirror and I quite enjoy it

Yes! (Some of) Mine are like little black dots too. I don't understand it-how can a hair grow that doesn't appear to have a follicle?

FangsForTheMemory · 16/07/2022 21:10

My eyebrows used to do this when I plucked them a lot.

yonce · 16/07/2022 21:12

Oh my god me too 😂 a few pesky nuggets than need tweezers, some look like a little black dot and I can just squeeze them out. Very confusing! I have PCOS so just put it down to that.

CrappyNHappy · 16/07/2022 21:21

Yes that's just blackheads isn't it? It's just root of the hair that hadn't grown yet. (Could be totally making this up..)

They're definitely hairs, just hairs without a follicle. Look totally different to blackheads. It's so strange.

Yes I get that too never thought about it too much.

Pollydonia · 16/07/2022 21:29

Yes, I've had those too!
I hate the ones that poke through the skin enough so that you can feel them with fingertips but not enough that you can grab them with tweezers 😠

WonderingWanda · 16/07/2022 21:32

No mine don't do that but I have one random long very fine wiggly hair that grows on my neck but only sometimes. I check for it regularly and it's not there then one day bang it's about and inch and half long. It's a mystery!

QueSyrahSyrah · 16/07/2022 21:35

No they don't pop out, but I'm convinced they grow at amazing speed. I can have a good look at my chin at 8am at home, be confident I'm hair-free, and then go to the loo at work at 11am and BOOM an inch long black wiry hair has appeared Confused

DorotheaHomeAlone · 16/07/2022 21:35

Aren’t the ones that pop out ingrown hairs surely? They’ve been weakened by repeated plucking and can’t get through the skin properly so they die at the root. I get similar on my legs.

sandie412 · 16/07/2022 21:41

Yes I get these all the time. I've never really thought about it much. I just thought they were hairs that haven't grown enough to poke out yet. The follicle sometimes pops out separately. But sometimes it's like you describe. Also when I pluck a stubborn thicker hair I always squeeze the hole it came from after as a lot of the time a bit of follicle is still to come. Gosh that's a lot of sentences about my chin hair removal process.

BrokenToy · 16/07/2022 21:42

I’ve never understood how they grow so long so quickly. As PP said, nothing there in the morning and then I’ll visit the loo mid evening and check the mirror and there’s a fucking inch long growth. WTF.

Awoooga · 16/07/2022 21:42

Yes oh my god it’s so nice to not be alone in this 😂

QuestionableMouse · 16/07/2022 21:42

They're not, for me at least. They're more like splinters of hair.
