If you don’t have/had/want children why are you here?

I’m aware the title sounds quite nippy and I don’t mean it to. Having read a post from a person considering cutting off friends since they’ve had kids it genuinely made me wonder…if you don’t have or have had or want or even like children what attracted you to a forum where the main users are all of the above?

Am I being unreasonable to assume that users of MN have/had/want/like children?

OP posts:
Supersee · 12/07/2022 17:35

If I had a pound for every time this comes up.

pinkyredrose · 12/07/2022 17:35

There's loads of threads, most of them in fact that have zilch to do with kids.

PurpleDaisies · 12/07/2022 17:36

This again?
It’s a busy discussion forum with lots of topics.

It isn’t rocket science.

TeapotTitties · 12/07/2022 17:36

Honestly, I'm not being snippy ( I get you're probably new here) but this thread has been done to death - probably weekly.

There are so so so many topics on MN that don't involve children/parenting. The topics come up on Google and it brings people here.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 12/07/2022 17:37

I googled 'how to clean poo from carpet' and ended up here.

thesurrealist · 12/07/2022 17:37

Yes you are. And mind your own business.

sammylady37 · 12/07/2022 17:39

I’ll get my bingo card ready.

First one is somebody posting “but it’s called MUMSnet”

mangoontoast · 12/07/2022 17:40

Yes you are being unreasonable. And rude. And snippy.

Point me towards the non-parenting forum that covers the same number and breath of subjects and isn't aimed at teens and young people.

Yeah I’ll join you in the bingo, wait until someone brings up men being on here

phishy · 12/07/2022 17:41

Netmums is thataway OP, think you would be happier there with all the huns.

PurpleSky300 · 12/07/2022 17:42

Companionship? To hear about other women's experiences / struggles / hopes etc?

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 12/07/2022 17:43

I googled something for advice and mumsnet posts came up. That simple. I explored and realised it had a wide array of subjects that weren’t parenting related.

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 12/07/2022 17:43

Supersee · 12/07/2022 17:35

If I had a pound for every time this comes up.

We could afford to heat our homes this winter!

whumpthereitis · 12/07/2022 17:43

It’s one of the biggest message boards in the UK that hosts discussion on pretty much anything and everything, despite the name.

Stuffin · 12/07/2022 17:45

Arghhh this again.

Do you only talk to other parents in RL?

Do you have anything in common with non parents?

Clearly you think that people who don't want children do not chat to those with children. Are all the threads on neighbours, clothing, parking, legal, jobs, pets etc are only applicable for parents 🤔

EL8888 · 12/07/2022 17:45

This has been done to death. Why not use the search function to find out the answers? You’re going to get the same replies these threads always get

MephistophelesApprentice · 12/07/2022 17:46

To hear women's experience of parenting and decide whether I could live up to the requirements of being a father.

Now it's to understand what my friends are going through and best understand how to support them.

ZaraSizeMedium · 12/07/2022 17:46

I googled how to freshen up my smelly washing machine and ended up here. Stayed for the Style and Beauty, Feminism and Christmas boards.

DashboardConfessional · 12/07/2022 17:46

It's busy. There's always something to read. It's non-specific.

Plexie · 12/07/2022 17:46

I'm here because it's an amazing discussion forum with a wide range of topics and some wonderfully knowledgeable and helpful posters.

I don't have children: I've never wanted them; I don't like them; and I didn't like being one.

And yes, I'm also sick of the number of times this topic comes up. I don't know what's on the main site as I've never had an interest to look. Maybe some people find the 'Mum' section first and then the forum. Whereas many Forum users are here just for the forum.

hoping2021 · 12/07/2022 17:47

Yes you are being unreasonable.
It's a big forum with a range of topics most of which are non-parenting.
I don't know the post you're referring to but maybe this person who offended you is trying to conceive and having a hard time being around people with children or around pregnant women. It can be a very painful time. I would suggest trying compassion.

perimenofertility · 12/07/2022 17:48

Supersee · 12/07/2022 17:35

If I had a pound for every time this comes up.

Same! We'd be quids in. Must be at least every month.
Bore off OP, or at least search for the many previous threads on the same topic.

BMW6 · 12/07/2022 17:51

Haven't you noticed that there are dozens of subjects that have nothing to do with children OP? And that being a parent is entirely irrelevant to the subjects?

SagittariusDwarf · 12/07/2022 17:51

😴

GrandRapids · 12/07/2022 17:52

Because most of the topics have cock all to do with kids.
