To want a washing machine that doesn't take 3+ hours?

Hdocheub820 · 07/07/2022 17:46

Looking for a new washing machine. 7-9kg and not to break the bank. Most seem to take 3-3.5 hours is this normal now? Our current one takes 2.5. Any recommendations?

My LG has ridiculously long cycles so I only ever use the "mixed fabrics" which takes 1hr 10. There is a 30 minute programme but only at 30 degrees and if you want the max spin speed it adds another 5 minutes or so.

Other than that I love it - quiet and efficient. Hotpoint and Indesit are on my boycott list and Samsung plays that weird rendering of Schubert's Trout Suite when it finishes!

Partypoooooper · 07/07/2022 18:43

My Hotpoint has a 45 minute full 10kg load wash, 30 min half load wash and various other cycles with an express option so 1-2 hrs.

whirlyhead · 07/07/2022 18:44

My 20 year old Miele has a quick wash setting so all my loads take 40 minutes. I love that machine so much I am praying it will last forever (I tell it I love it and it’s brilliant every time I use it. I think that’s why it’s still going)

LilacPoppy · 07/07/2022 18:45

My 9k wash has a 30 minute wash.

Lennybenny · 07/07/2022 18:46

I have a Candy grand vita 9kg. 1400 spin, 14, 30 and 44 wash cycle.daily 59 min cycle. Its also a mart touch so you can download different/nee cycles as well.

Alicewither · 07/07/2022 18:48

My Bosch one has quicker options but they don’t clean the clothes properly

Oblomov22 · 07/07/2022 18:54

I don't like the newer models. My old one has 51 minute cycle for 40 degrees. 1 hour 10 for 60 degrees. You never get that now, on the newer models.

I had this washing machine, I used to go dashing off to answer the front door when I heard the tune thinking it was the bloody doorbell!

Now have a Hotpoint 9kg with half hour, 45 min and 2 hour cycle

fyn · 07/07/2022 19:00

It sounds counter intuitive but the longer washes usually are more environmentally friendly.

LarkspurLane · 07/07/2022 19:00

Bought a new washing machine a couple of months ago when old one broke. All (Hotpoint) very long full washes, my regular one is 2h55 and I find it so frustrating. The 30 min cycle is akin to putting your washing in the bath and leaving it sitting there for half an hour, not properly rinsed and soaking wet.
However - game changer!- I did not realise that lowering the temp shortened the cycle until reading this thread. I have now found a new wash to try tomorrow - the superlong "whites" wash at 40 instead of 90 rocks in at 2h10. I am almost excited about tomorrow's washing.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 07/07/2022 19:01

I have a Samsung that has a Daily wash that’s an hour and two minutes I think. You can choose temperature and spin speed on it too. It’s the only setting I ever really use.

tootiredtobother · 07/07/2022 19:04

i hate my bosh, it decides what temperature each cycle will be, so no giving sheets a short hard hot wash.
it does have a 15 min cycle but it wont go above 40.d. and the beeping omg the beeping yes i bloody know you have finished - just shut up will you

OwBist · 07/07/2022 19:05

I have an AEG which does say 2.75 hours as standard, (goes up to nearly 4 on an eco wash!), however, it weighs it before starting and adjusts the time down if it's not full. You can also touch the speedy wash button twice to reduce the time down to 1hour 19 mins. All on cottons. There's tons of other programmes, but if you want the 20 minute one, you can only put in 3kg...

grey12 · 07/07/2022 19:10

We have a Hoover VisionTech 7kg and it's AMAZING!! 1:50 for 30 degree wash with options for quick wash or delicates or wtv.

If you know however of a very good dishwasher, I'm all ears 😁

WarmJuly · 07/07/2022 19:10

I had a Bosch with a 40c 20 minute wash, but the spin was slow, so had to use a spin cycle of 13 minutes. It washed well though.

Now have a Miele and it has a 40 min 40c wash with a fast spin. I love it.

Jalisco · 07/07/2022 19:11

My 12 year old Zanussi does a 9kg wash in 30 minutes. You either aren't looking hard enough, or you don't understand what you are seeing.

Gingernaut · 07/07/2022 19:13

My last washer/dryer had an eco wash function.

I put towels in there, put it on a cottons+extra rinse+long dry cycle and it set off for over 7 hours.

Nothing useful to add, just that I feel your pain.

Sqeebling · 07/07/2022 19:13

I just use the one hour wash on my Bosch.

Only used the standard long wash 2hrs45mins once or twice

I often use the quick wash 14 mins 30' for delicate clothes

Our clothes are rarely visibly soiled but often use 60'

Misunderstoodagain · 07/07/2022 19:28

I got a Samsung eco bubble. I love it! Has a 1hr5 min daily cycle, or a cotton wash that weighs the clothes and most times it's around 1hr 20 mins, then if your putting on a wash before heading out or bedtime you can use the eco wash (2hr 20) or eco cotton wash which is a bit longer. It was a mid range one I think around the £450- £550.

Mumrey · 07/07/2022 19:34

Mine is a Beko, use daily wash programme normally 50 mins for a 40 wash and just over an hour for anything above. Also has an express wash for 30 wash

JerkintheMerkin · 07/07/2022 20:13

My LG has a 1.2 hour cycle that washes up to 60 deg and another similar time that washes up to 90 degs.

Eco functions tend to take forever! I don't know why 🤷🏻‍♀️

echt · 09/07/2022 09:39

My Miele has an Express setting with cold>30>40, 20 minutes or 30.

Everything is cold unless minging tea towels, then only 60+ if the hygiene wash warning light goes on.

whiteroseredrose · 09/07/2022 09:40

I have just bought a John Lewis own label one. It has a button to reduce the time in steps, and a quick wash one

JimMorrisonsleathertrousers · 09/07/2022 10:45

I use the eco cotton wash if I'm not in a rush, it takes nearly 3 hours. But if I want to blitz through the laundry quickly I use the mixed load setting which only takes an hour!
