To want a washing machine that doesn't take 3+ hours?

Hdocheub820 · 07/07/2022 17:46

Looking for a new washing machine. 7-9kg and not to break the bank. Most seem to take 3-3.5 hours is this normal now? Our current one takes 2.5. Any recommendations?

You can get a quicker wash button on them.

spanieleyes · 07/07/2022 17:47

Mine has a 14 minute wash! Surely you have more options than 2 and a half hours!

Fundays12 · 07/07/2022 17:50

I have a candy one. It has cycled from 14 minutes up to 3 hours. It's brilliant I would highly recommend it

DahliaMacNamara · 07/07/2022 17:52

Most of the settings on my newish Bosch machine are 2-3 hours, but there's a 30 minute wash and the one I think of as the normal one at just over an hour. It'll give it an extra wash or rinse if it thinks it's needed. It's annoying to have my instructions overridden by a washing machine. But it's usually fine.

ThreeRingCircus · 07/07/2022 17:53

They surely come with lots of options don't they? Ours stays permanently on the 40 minute wash setting unless I'm doing a delicates wash.

LaFeuilleMorte · 07/07/2022 17:53

My Whirlpool - admittedly 9 years old - has a one hour wash. It took me months to work it out because I am myopic, and I thought it said 60 with a degrees symbol, but in fact it’s 60’, or 60 minutes. I have a separate selector dial for temperature so I can use this short wash for any temp.

chiffchaffchiff · 07/07/2022 17:54

Most eco settings are long because they spin for longer but use less heat and water.

Hdocheub820 · 07/07/2022 17:55

Yes there are loads of different options on the ones I've been looking at but all the standard cycles that take 9kg say 3+ hours. The shorter cycles say only 2 or 4kg load etc?!

Can I ask which model you have?

Ohh and which one you have? I have heard a few people say Candy actually but I'd never heard of them.

Mines a Hotpoint 10kg ( I opted for the bigger one as I broke the 6kg one by overloading it.):
It has a 60 minute wash. This on is default 60d temp but I can reduce the temp down to 30d.it doesn’t alter the time though.m
A 30d 30 minute wash, These two programmes have a lower weight capacity. If I put too heavy a load in, the machine won’t start, it beeps until I take some of the load out.
A bed and bath 2.50 hr wash. 60dg. I can reduce the wash time by reducing the temperature. It takes a 10 tog king sized duvet no problem. A dry duvet only weighs about 4.5kg
It has three options: Speed. This knocks about 25 mins off. Auto, it does its own thing. And Performance, A longer wash with more rinses. Several other programmes too.
If I have a large load I use the Bed and bath programme, and knock the temp down to 40. This saves about 30 mins compared to doing two 60 minute washes.

It has an Self clean function too, after 20: washes I press two buttons together, close the door and it cleans itself. ,

I have a Samsung ecobubble and I only ever use the 1h4m wash. It also has a 15min wash. I always put a full load in.

fizzyfood · 07/07/2022 18:17

I have a Bosch one and if you press the speed perfect button it almost halves the washing time

Snozwanger · 07/07/2022 18:17

My Bosch machine has a 3.5 hour wash for cottons but I only use that for bedding. In reality I just use the mixed load wash for everything which is 1hr and 3 mins.

rwalker · 07/07/2022 18:19

We have zanussi 3hr 10 use fast was takes it down to 1hr 50 but sports stuff or anything really dirty use 3hr wash

Quirkycarrot · 07/07/2022 18:22

Samsung Ecobubble here too, the 8kg model. Never use the 15 mins quick wash but the daily is just over an hour and that's fine for most things. I do fill it a bit less than I would the cotton cycle though as the recommendation is to not do a completely full load for the shorter cycles. (The cotton takes around 2.5 hours depending on weight. Wool is a bit less than an hour.)

Fennellathewitch · 07/07/2022 18:22

Only ever use mixed wash 1hr option at 30 degrees for everything, would have to be a spectacular mess to ever use cotton option at anything above 40 degrees. Bosch machine, takes 9kg

Bamaluz · 07/07/2022 18:26

My Indesit has a 9kg programme that takes 45 minutes, as well as two that take 59 minutes.
There are also 30 and 15 minute cycles for lighter loads as well as the usual wool, synthetic, cotton etc programmes

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 07/07/2022 18:28

I've just bought a 9kg Samsung Ecobubble for a property we're renovating. I haven't used it much yet but it has a 15min quickwash and the cotton's/synthetics/delicates washes are somewhere between 1hr and 1hr25. You can adjust the spin and wash length (1-5) to increase or decrease the overall time which is reflected by the digital display.

It came with a 5yr warranty and I had a promo code for AO.

So far so good.

ChimChimeny · 07/07/2022 18:29

This is ours. We paid £20 more to be able to set it from our phones 🤷🏻‍♀️ but the most economical setting actually only takes about 1 hour 40 mins. The 2.5 hours eve setting actually uses more energy!

I like that the app tells you the energy usage for each different setting

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 07/07/2022 18:34

I meant to say the 15mins quickwash ends up more like 25mins if I increase the spin to 1200 rather than 800 but that's fine by me. It also plays a jaunty tune on completion 😁

I was put off any appliances with WiFi as it seemed like more to go wrong and I'd rather the budget went on the motor and programmes!

It's the WW90TA046AE in white or graphite:

concernedguineapig · 07/07/2022 18:35

Mine has 14, 30 and 45 min quick wash options it's great

shaggpilecarpet · 07/07/2022 18:40

I think all washing machines take this long on a full programme, just get one with a quick wash button and use that. Don't think I've ever used mine without pressing this

Alfiemoon1 · 07/07/2022 18:40

Samsung eco bubble
