What percentage has your gas and electric gone up by?

Outs has increased by nearly 150% overnight.

We just took this as life right now. It's happening to everyone.

However a friend of mine was paying £140 a month then like us, it went up over night but to nearly £700 😱

They have managed, after lots of calls to get it reduced to £150.

I suspect they were paying too much in the first place as there's only two of them.

But it made me think, how much is an acceptable increase at this point?

Ours doubled.

Libertybear80 · 06/07/2022 20:47

53%

iloveyankeecandle · 06/07/2022 20:47

Ours was £95 a month and is now £170

PollenHigh · 06/07/2022 20:48

From £96 per month to £146 per month.

Libertybear80 · 06/07/2022 20:49

Do people not know how to work out percentages?

Snap!

Its absolutely shocking, isn't it!

Bubblebubblebah · 06/07/2022 20:54

It's because it is estimates, people. No one's unit price has risen thatuch to put extra 100 quid on a normal average bill. Let alone more.
Check your meters, submit your readings, see what difference does it make. (From person on payg paying just what we actually use)

iloveyankeecandle · 06/07/2022 20:55

@minou123 I'm dreading the October price hike.

RaraRachael · 06/07/2022 20:56

Both my summer gas and electric bills are £10 less than they were last year.

gwenneh · 06/07/2022 20:56

Ours has doubled.

Our readings are all actual, not estimated.

I do but I wanted to give you the opportunity to make a smug remark.

ImFuminHun · 06/07/2022 20:58

Ours seams to have gone up more than most so far then.

I wonder if we are being charged too much.

Oh god I know. It just gets worse and worse. What do you reckon, £230 a month, maybe?

User65412 · 06/07/2022 21:00

Ours has gone from 80 to 260. We're not using that much (more like 70 at the moment) but decided to keep it at that to overpay ready for winter.

Jmaho · 06/07/2022 21:01

Ours has gone up by 60%. We were paying £168pm now gone up to £268pm
We were on a fixed rate now on the variable rate and the estimate for the forthcoming year is based on what we used last year. Meter readings taken monthly so I'm hoping we will be in credit in the warmer months to help cover the colder months as the DD amount we pay now is basically the estimated annual cost divided by 12m

slpanshudt · 06/07/2022 21:01

Our direct debit has increased by 156% however we have significantly reduced our usage and as a result could now pay less if we wanted. However we prefer to build up a credit in preparation for winter so have kept it the increased amount.

ImFuminHun · 06/07/2022 21:01

Ours was £134 and now it's £297

Seems like quite a leap?

Desmondo2021 · 06/07/2022 21:01

140 to 220. Not as bad as some.

ImFuminHun · 06/07/2022 21:02

Did I confuse the percentage but then?

Sorry my mistake, it has increased by 60%, not 150%

ImFuminHun · 06/07/2022 21:16

Ok I think I over estimated the percentage and it's increased by 125% but it still seems like more than most.

Three bed, Semi- Previously £114 a month to £180 and this is in the summer. Our electric has more than doubled. I'm really worried to be honest Sad

iloveyankeecandle · 06/07/2022 21:19

@minou123 I reckon yeah. I mean we can afford to pay it but things will be tight!! I feel sorry for those that won't be able to pay it.

ladygindiva · 06/07/2022 21:20

75% , from 100ish a month to 175. We live in a modern energy efficient bla bla small house, and consume electric only as our source of heating cooking etc

Oh my god, I think you're my twin, I'm exactly the same 😁

I also have just enough to afford the increase.
I've finished paying my student loan, so that money is now going towards the fuel increase.
It's annoying because that money would have been useful to use as savings etc, but I need to be grateful as I know others can't afford to pay.
