What percentage has your gas and electric gone up by?

Outs has increased by nearly 150% overnight.

We just took this as life right now. It's happening to everyone.

However a friend of mine was paying £140 a month then like us, it went up over night but to nearly £700 😱

They have managed, after lots of calls to get it reduced to £150.

I suspect they were paying too much in the first place as there's only two of them.

But it made me think, how much is an acceptable increase at this point?

I was on a fixed rate until 31/05/2022.
Now I'm on the SVR the prices per kWh for both gas & electricity have rocketed.

I can't remember the electricity figures but
Gas....
Fixed rate up until 31/05/2022 - 2.9p/kWh
Current SVR - 7.3p/kWh
Quite a rise...

Up until end of May I was paying £100/month & ended up 4p in credit! I was also saving up to £100/month so have a 'utilities stash' of £700.
Since I went onto the SVR, I've upped my monthly payment to £200 to build up credit & saving what I can to my 'utilities stash'.

It's a bit of a shock to the system.
My fixed rate ran from May 2020 - May 2022 & you get used to what you pay/use.

Do people not know how to work out percentages?

No, would you please tell me? Feeling pretty inept here

Pinklimey · 12/07/2022 11:48

not much at all, couldn't say why.

There are plenty of posts above explaining how to calculate the specific percentage needed for this thread. What exactly do you need to work out?

Seems they're not agreeing and I'm wondering who won!

To work out the percentage of something, you need to divide 1 number by another number

So if you have £80 and the price has increased by £40 to £120, the question is: by what percentage of the original price has the price increased by.

It's increased by £40. The original price was £80. So to work out the percentage, it's £40 / £80 which is 50%
