Having a nap on my days off

Vwswimmer1 · 06/07/2022 15:42

Reading another post got me thinking about napping as an adult.

I work full-time shifts in a busy job, I go to bed around 9-10pm and get up at 6-7am. On the days I'm not at work I'll frequently have a 20-30 minute nap if I'm tired and feel like it.

Is this abnormal?

No I do this whenever I can. I am always busy & sometimes 20 mins is enough. My sleep is disrupted at the moment so it's a help.

ElizaJones · 06/07/2022 16:00

Not unreasonable at all. I love an afternoon nap!

blithefool · 06/07/2022 16:06

I think I know which other thread you are thinking about- the outrage was palpable!

I'm a perfectly healthy adult who works less than full time hours. I've napped all my life- I love the second wind it gives me and I can often get double the amount of stuff done afterwards and I prefer staying up later.

Nowt wrong with it and some research even suggests it prolongs lifespan

inmyslippers · 06/07/2022 16:07

I'd love an afternoon nap, but I find if I go over an hour it messes me up.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 06/07/2022 16:09

I sometimes have a three hour afternoon nap, I try to stay awake but since I hit 60 I find I need a nap.

MsOllie · 06/07/2022 16:10

Nope. I struggle with fatigue (chronic conditions, work FT)
On the days that I finish work at 4.30pm, I nap until about 6.30. I physically can't stay awake

Inchail · 06/07/2022 16:11

I'm a napper.
It's how I get stuff done. Sometimes I'll have a few short (10-20 minute) naps a day. It gives me enough energy to keep going!

SpikeyHatePotato · 06/07/2022 16:13

I love a nana nap, as does my DH, so we take it in turns at the weekend (someone needs to be awake for the kids)!

knackeredagain · 06/07/2022 16:14

For years I napped in the afternoon. I’ve lost the ability now and it’s one of life’s greatest sadnesses. YADNBU. Take it when you can!

3 hours? Shock That's a lot - have you had your health checked recently, that seems really unusual and excessive.

Sunnytwobridges · 06/07/2022 16:15

I LOVE a nap! Sometimes I even nap during my lunch hour if I can get relaxed enough (sometimes it takes me time to fall asleep). Naps can be very refreshing, I used to even take one in my car when I used to go into the office 😂 I always take one on my day off, especially around mid morning after my DD has left the house and the dogs are taking theirs.

Vwswimmer1 · 06/07/2022 16:24

So glad to have found some fellow nappers! I was starting to worry there was something wrong with me 😂

I've always had sleep troubles so I've learned not to deny my body sleep when it needs it. And if that means a nap, then so be it.

Plus naps are great anyway 😁

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 06/07/2022 16:43

I struggle to sleep in the day unless I’ve had a proper sleepless night - but if you can and it does you good, why not?

I seem to remember a weirdly angry thread about adults who nap a while back. I can’t really imagine why anyone cares about someone else’s sleeping habits.

HairyScaryMonster · 06/07/2022 16:47

I often have a lazy nap on my day off, and sometimes can't keep my eyes open in the late afternoon and need 10 mins to get through dinner and bedtime

Ilikewinter · 06/07/2022 16:51

Ooh I love an afternoon nap, we recently had a caravan holiday and would go out all day with the dog, then snooze from mid afternoon til tea time, I put it down to the sea air 😂 ..... only downside was going back to work, i needed my 3pm kip!

Fuwari · 06/07/2022 17:15

The only unreasonable part is your nap only lasting 30 minutes! I need at least an hour. I'm peri menopausal and seem to wake on average 50 times a night, or at least it feels that way! I don't nap every day, maybe 3-4 times a week. But my attitude is why not? I wfh, very flexible hours, no DC at home.

For years I used to love super long lie ins. We're talking midday/1pm kind of length. I've lost that ability now so the nap is my substitute.

Bettyboop3 · 06/07/2022 17:31

I finished work early today & have just woken up from a 1.5 hour nap!

coffeecupsandfairylights · 06/07/2022 17:34

Love a nap!

I don't do it often but sometimes I can't help myself Grin

GreenWheat · 06/07/2022 17:38

Each to their own really. If you fancy a nap then why not? Personally I have never napped in the day.

daisyjgrey · 06/07/2022 17:39

Naps are NASA approved. I will die on this hill.

LadyWhistledownsPen · 06/07/2022 17:41

I love a good nap. I don't worm Fridays and Mondays and when my DD naps after lunch so do I and sometimes at the weekend too. I just have an hour or more

Bonjovispjs · 06/07/2022 17:41

I love it, always have a 1-2 hour nap when I'm not working.

Whataplanker · 06/07/2022 17:50

Love a nap!

mizzo · 06/07/2022 17:53

I'm a SAHM to school aged children and often have a daytime nap.
