Having a nap on my days off

Vwswimmer1 · 06/07/2022 15:42

Reading another post got me thinking about napping as an adult.

I work full-time shifts in a busy job, I go to bed around 9-10pm and get up at 6-7am. On the days I'm not at work I'll frequently have a 20-30 minute nap if I'm tired and feel like it.

Is this abnormal?

I am 44 and my sister is 41 and we are serial nappers!! If you need a nap you go for it!! Nothing wrong with it

I think I am abnormal. I could sleep for 8-10 hours at night, be awake for a few hours, and sleep for the rest of the day if I got into a bed.

A 30 minute nap is perfectly normal.

Same here. I'm having B12 injections which are making fuck all difference, also looking into thyroid issues with the doctor so the medical bases are covered. On the weekends or days off though I get up, having a couple of mugs of coffee, talk to the cats, then back to bed for a few hours. Repeat throughout the day, getting up mainly just for a wee or a snack. I basically turn into a cat and Iove it.

That actually sounds exactly like me before I was medicated for hypothyroidism. I could literally come home on a Friday night and sleep until Monday morning, just waking up for a couple of hours a day to eat.
The annoying thing now that my thyroxine dose is correct is that I’m a terrible sleeper! Sometimes I long for those days spent napping.

Merryoldgoat · 06/07/2022 22:50

YADNBU.

I have taken Monday off to mostly sleep.

RubyandPearl · 06/07/2022 22:53

Naps are NASA approved. I will die on this hill.

This is possibly the best thing I have ever heard

Happierthanever91 · 06/07/2022 23:03

Napping in probably my best skill in life. I love a nap, I'd pay money to nap if I had to

Ihaveroyallyscrewedup · 06/07/2022 23:11

I love a nap, on the day I have to start work very early and get to finish early I have a little nap when I get home, it’s my favourite day of the week!

FourChimneys · 06/07/2022 23:18

I run my own business so schedule my work around my preferred nap time. I was recently booking in a client and suggested a 3 pm appointment. She said she couldn't do that as she had a nap every afternoon from 3 to 4 pm.

So could I, figure I was a cat in a previous life.

Ah I'm with you! WFH exclusively (employer has sold the office space so no office option) My hour lunch break consists of a nice lie down with an alarm set. Always wake up refreshed and ready for the afternoons work. It doesn't suit everyone. My friend cannot get back in her work groove if she has a day time sleep but I get a big cup of tea and then am very productive even at 6/7 pm.
At weekends I go full teenager and often get up early but go back to bed for a couple of hours- often bump into our 20 yo DS on the landing at midday on a Sunday!

A nap is a thing of beauty. They're wonderful. I call them 'slinks'!

I was really struggling to get through each day without a 2-3 hour nap after work (I'm a cleaner, work school hours) and at the weekend I could sleep the clock round.

Blood tests showed my vitamin D3 was on the floor and this is very common for Westerners apparently. Im now on a high dose, weekly tablet, for 5 months. I'm a month in and feel much better. I now do an occasional 20-30 minute nap, preferring to lie down but stay awake if I need a rest. I honestly feel transformed.

I’ve always napped, even when we had very dull ‘television’ lessons in my school days …. I used to sit at the back of the tv room snoozing and my bestie would wake me!
I now go to work before 6am, so an afternoon nap is the law… the Ddog asks to go up to bed if she thinks it’s time!😁
on the (awful) days that I have to be somewhere in the afternoon, I start yawning around 2pm, desperate for a sleep - I had Covid a month ago and the joy of just sleeping as needed for a whole week was blissful!
my DP has just started to realise the joys of a nap… after teasing me about them! A nap is especially lovely in the winter when it’s cold and wet outside.

Mellowyellow222 · 06/07/2022 23:54

I live napping!

i probably only do it once a month - usually on a Sunday afternoon.

I have to go to bed though- I can’t snooze on the sofa! I will usually manage about an hour.

I live the slightly disoriented feeling when I wake up.

seaUrchinOne · 06/07/2022 23:56

I love naps and quite often need one, I have done throughout my life so it's not an age thing for me. Some need more sleep than others, dont feel bad if your body needs it, sleep.

MsOllie · 06/07/2022 23:59

I slept for 3hrs after work and didn't know what day it was when I woke up Grin
(Medicated for hashimotos and vitamin D)

tootiredtoocare · 07/07/2022 00:04

There's been research that recommends it. I take medication that makes me tired, and when it hits, nothing will keep me awake if I'm at home, I nap sitting up on the sofa.

Apollonia1 · 07/07/2022 00:15

I'm so envious!

I just can't nap. I could relax/browse the internet/read, but not sleep.
Even when I had newborn twins, and sometimes only got 30 mins sleep a night, I still couldn't nap the next day.

I'd love to be able to nap! You must never be tired, because if you're tired, you'd just nap until you're refreshed. Even if I'm exhausted, I can't nap, so spend most of my time exhausted!

3monkeybars · 07/07/2022 08:24

I've found my people!

I nap more often now as I'm pregnant (probably 5 days out of 7), I wfh so I always eat lunch at my desk then spend my lunch hour grabbing a quick 40 mins (with 10 mins either side to wind down/wake up). In my family it's hereditary, all the women in the family are nappers.

Merryoldgoat · 07/07/2022 17:42

I napped 2-3 today. It was lovely.
