Having a nap on my days off

Vwswimmer1 · 06/07/2022 15:42

Reading another post got me thinking about napping as an adult.

I work full-time shifts in a busy job, I go to bed around 9-10pm and get up at 6-7am. On the days I'm not at work I'll frequently have a 20-30 minute nap if I'm tired and feel like it.

Is this abnormal?

I bloody love a nap!

BrioNotBiro · 06/07/2022 17:56

A power nap is great. I used to get 10-20 minutes under my desk in a previous job and woke up like a new woman!

BigBagOfElbows · 06/07/2022 17:58

I nap so often that my teens will ask me what time I want waking up if my head goes anywhere near a cushion on the sofa.

boopdeflouff · 06/07/2022 18:00

I love a nap, and try to have one at least every other weekend!

But I don't sleep well during the week so I really need it to charge my batteries

JellyBellyNelly · 06/07/2022 18:01

I love an afternoon nap. Especially the kind where you can sometimes hear yourself snoring and it makes you lie there thinking smashing, I’m having a really nice nap.

Where I live having a sies5a 8s normal but I never Ed bothered with it much. However, at 64 and having had a health scare two years ago I revel in a wee sleep in the afternoon (sometimes 3 hours) and I don’t justify it to anyone.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 06/07/2022 18:01

Absolutely love a 30 min nap at a weekend, gives me a second wind for the rest of the evening.

Startuplife · 06/07/2022 18:04

I think it’s fine. DP has a very physical job and starts work at 7am and often doesn’t finish until 8pm plus Saturdays and Sunday mornings. If he has a couple of hours spare in the middle of the day he’ll often take a cushion to have a quick power nap in the car.

As someone who really struggles to sleep, I’d love to have his ability to nap absolutely anywhere!

Fluffruff · 06/07/2022 18:07

Bloody love a nap! I’m from a family of long nappers and grew up with my parents taking a weekend afternoon nap…and now I do too!

meow1989 · 06/07/2022 18:08

20 to 30 mins? That's just a slow blink! When I nap its for 2hrs plus!

user143677433 · 06/07/2022 18:13

Having a nap is one of life’s great pleasures!

I have been known, usually a week or so into a holiday, to be disappointed at being too well rested from a lie in to be able to properly enjoy a nap 😅

Vicliz24 · 06/07/2022 18:14

I love a nap and grab one whenever I can . The older I get the more I need one .

magicstar1 · 06/07/2022 18:15

I finish work at 4, and used to doze on the bus home. Now I’m working from home, so I set a 20 minute timer and snooze on the couch at 4.
nothing wrong with a nap at all.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 06/07/2022 18:16

I nap sometimes during my working day. If I need a sleep, I need a sleep. A 20 minute nap is a wonderful restorative!

JellyBellyNelly · 06/07/2022 18:16

A friend claims the best map she ever had was the one where she woke up drooling into her armpit.

Oblomov22 · 06/07/2022 18:17

Dh and I often have a siesta at the weekends. Fabulous.

FusionChefGeoff · 06/07/2022 18:17

This has inspired me to become a napper!

I often hit a wall about 7/8 so maybe I'd be happier / more productive if I napped

QueSyrahSyrah · 06/07/2022 18:20

Not unreasonable. I absolutely love an afternoon nap at the weekend, preferably on a wintery Sunday after a big walk and pub lunch.

MinglingFlamingo · 06/07/2022 18:20

I need a nap after work otherwise I get grumpy.

blebbleb · 06/07/2022 18:21

I try and nap as often as I can. It's been my favourite indulgence since I was a teenager Grin

Trinity69 · 06/07/2022 18:33

I only work part time at the moment (17.5 hours) and I nap pretty much every day except Sundays. I finish work at 13:30 on a Friday and prioritise a nap over my lunch! Have to be on the school run at 15:00 so time is limited!! I wonder why permanently knackered but feeling better knowing it's not just me!

LadyVictoriaSponge · 06/07/2022 18:42

I prefer my naps to proper sleeping at night, I had one this afternoon, Wimbledon on quietly in the background, dog curled up beside me, pure bliss.

DarkCharlotte · 06/07/2022 18:44

I think I am abnormal. I could sleep for 8-10 hours at night, be awake for a few hours, and sleep for the rest of the day if I got into a bed.

A 30 minute nap is perfectly normal.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 06/07/2022 18:51

One of the best things about wfh is that I can have a 20mins nap at lunchtime. I feel refreshed and ready for the afternoon work.

DecimatedDreams · 06/07/2022 18:55

I went for a lie down after finishing work early at 3.30 and have just woken up.
I will sleep tonight, until the cat wakes me anyway, but having had 5 coffees this morning I didn't think I'd need quite such a long nap!

TooManyPJs · 06/07/2022 19:12

Napping is very good for you. Loads of health benefits. Unfortunately I can barely get to sleep at night let alone in the day (I do have the superpower though of being able to sleep until any hour of the day once I am asleep - I basically still sleep like a teenager - I don't recommend it).
