Where have all the bananas gone?!

My husband and I have noticed that banana flavoured things seem to have disappeared from shops.

There very rarely any banana milkshake in the fridges, if there’s any banana nesquick it’s the small pot and not the big tubs. Banana yoghurts are rare, banana custard seems to have disappeared… also having trouble finding banana essence.

Have we missed some great banana conspiracy?! Has anyone else noticed this?

I can always find banana nesquik

Lots of things are running short in UK due to Brexit. Plus war in Ukraine and ongoing Covid infections around the world also affecting supply chains. Get used to it!

Littleraindrop15 · 30/06/2022 19:03

munch bunch have those split pots banana and strawberry if that's any help x

FruitToast · 30/06/2022 19:08

Probably because supply chains are currently stretched due to Ukraine/Brexit/covid and I imagine banana flavoured stuff is simply not as popular as other stuff. Hence, companies are prioritising getting things that are more popular and profitable to the shelves.

I definitely remember there being a reduction in milkshakes before brexit was a thing. (Can you tell bananas my favourite?!) a banana yazoo has been my hangover cure for years and now I can never get any banana milkshakes from the fridge sections in supermarkets.

helpamom · 30/06/2022 19:32

Banana flavour is very unpopular

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/06/2022 19:36

I think you may be in the minority in your love of banana flavour!

WeeOrcadian · 30/06/2022 19:37

Banana flavoured anything is the work of the devil

MiniMoosey · 30/06/2022 19:39

God I just bloody love banana. You used to be able to get banana flavoured hot chocolate too. Yum.

OP posts:
BudgetTarzan · 30/06/2022 19:47

Because it's the most disgusting of all the flavours?

Bimblybomeyelash · 30/06/2022 19:50

I’m not sure that banana flavour has anything to do with actual bananas.

userxx · 30/06/2022 19:54

There was loads of banana flavoured milk in Aldi the other day.

Pixiedust1234 · 30/06/2022 19:58

No idea but if anyone can point me to banana flavoured toffee I will love them forever. As a child I had round shaped toffees with a swirl on it (think sliced Swiss roll). Loved those so much!

InChocolateWeTrust · 30/06/2022 20:01

You know what you can buy?

A banana.

If you want a banana milkshake it's not rocket science. Whizz a banana with milk.

If you want a banana yoghurt/custard.. .. mash banana and mix it into yoghurt.

It doesn't taste the same as synthetic banana flavour

Smileypiupiu

No, and that's a good thing....

Thank. You.
The smell 🤮
I have colleagues that eat bananas every break time and wish them a prolonged and painful death.

mintich · 30/06/2022 20:09

There were no bananas at all in Tesco today. I did find them in Sainsburys!

I had not realised that all our bananas came from the EU!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 30/06/2022 20:13

Never mind the bananas. I haven't been able to get a decent melon for MONTHS. Honeydew, galia, Cantaloupe...each one sadder and more wizened and tasteless than the next.

User74936782 · 30/06/2022 20:15

There was not a single banana in Waitrose yesterday...

Maireas · 30/06/2022 20:16

The UK imports most of its bananas from Colombia, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica . So you're correct, @TwoLeftSocksWithHoles .

RubyJam · 30/06/2022 20:18

Also why are there no bags of frozen broccoli anywhere ? None in our local Tesco or Asda , they have taken the labels away too…
it’s a staple in this house through stir frys / pasta etc
