Towel folding

Doing the rounds at the moment on the perfect way to fold towels.

Why are woman made to feel that this is something they should be doing to run the perfect household? When your time could be better spent drinking gin or running a company?

Any other waste of time activities that keep woman busy? Arty present wrapping is another one!

Fuck knows

I'm baffled by most of the things women are expected to do.

The latest craze of tattooed eyebrows and puffer fish lips especially

luxxlisbon · 26/06/2022 10:44

I don’t really understand why folding towels to put them away in the drawer would keep me any busier then my husband?

dudsville · 26/06/2022 10:45

I've missed this! What is it?

For reference, the perfect way to fold towels in this house is so that they sit together in sets (bath, hand, face) ready to be parcelled out on Fresh Towel Day, and folded in such a way as to fit in the airer with the bedding. Anything else is plain silly.

snoochieboochies · 26/06/2022 10:48

But aren't you wasting more time by talking about the very same thing?

From those photos:

If your a hotel maid - yes.
At home - you need a hobby.

Clarinet1 · 26/06/2022 11:03

I don’t feel that folding towels is particularly onerous job. Unless you want to go straight from tumble dryer or washing line to use (which you may do) you just fold them to
a size that suits wherever you store them, probably alternating the directions of the fold.

DrinkReprehensibly · 26/06/2022 11:04

Most towel folding videos on YouTube are ASMR aren't they? So it's not because people actually want to learn how to fold towels in reality.

BlackberrySky · 26/06/2022 11:05

Eh? I have never been made to feel I should fold a towel in a particular way. Get off social media and fold them how you like!

Skelligsfeathers · 26/06/2022 11:05

How about putting stamps on the toilet paper? Polishing already clean sinks? The obsession with zoflora?

Aprilx · 26/06/2022 11:09

What on earth are you talking about? Nobody has ever told me that I need to fold towels or fold towels in a particular way.

Divebar2021 · 26/06/2022 11:09

Absolutely. I’ve watched all sort of folding videos on occasion. I’ve had various phases of folding things a certain way but it never lasts ( it’s quite soothing if things in life are a bit chaotic though I find )

JuneJubilee · 26/06/2022 11:14

Why are YOU putting it on women?

<trigger warning>. Men can fold towels too & it's a man in the photos.

PEOPLE sometimes want things to look nice/special what's wrong with videos showing how to achieve it. No different to how to replace a car fob battery or make a planter.

stop frothing for froth sake FFS

MsMarvellous · 26/06/2022 11:15

Ours are folded so they fit in the space we have for storage. H and I both do it. Did the video you are on about say it was a woman's job?

Justthisonceharold · 26/06/2022 11:16

Isn't it a bloke in the photo?

RewildingAmbridge · 26/06/2022 11:19

I take mine off the line fold them and put them in the airing cupboard, I don't make swans or space rockets with them (niche reference). Full disclaimer DH also gets the towels in and his penis doesn't get in the way of folding them.

Fairislefandango · 26/06/2022 11:22

It would be disingenuous to say that the fetishisation of homemaking and the unnecessary levels of showroom tidiness and fanciness on social media aren't aimed at, and mostly consumed by, women. And there's no doubt that it all has an insidious effect on what we feel we're expected to do. You can reject it of course, but surely nobody's entirely immune to the occasional 'I wish my house looked more like that!' pang?

SandyWedges · 26/06/2022 11:26

I did learn a handy way to fold them that enables my toddler to carry them for me so that was handy. It's quick and saves me time. So YABU.

Pretzerella · 26/06/2022 11:35

I love the folding lady's tips. Our things are so much more organised which leaves plenty more time for gin drinking etc.

Things need folding and cleaning I don't share the view it's somehow beneath me to make my home look good and run well.

IRunbecauseILikeCake · 26/06/2022 11:42

I have a full, happy life, but I'm not ashamed to say I like to have a nice home and enjoy doing nice things for it. As does DH actually. Doesn't make me any less or more than a woman who doesn't enjoy it. To each their own as they say.

It is a choice though. I can see for teenagers, social media pressure is so omnipresent that it can have a huge effect on them. Adult women? I've never even looked at a towel folding video, or house cleaning one. Why on earth would I? If I came across one by accident, it wouldn't be a 'pang' of anything other than what a bloody waste of time.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 26/06/2022 11:48

Photo one is a man, isn't it?

But I'm not one for shitting on people who like to keep things clean and tidy. Live and let live - they're not hurting anyone!

ShirleyPhallus · 26/06/2022 11:54

Why are woman made to feel that this is something they should be doing to run the perfect household?

Ummm they’re not. I’m certainly not.

Women are our worst enemy sometimes FFS. People like Mrs Hinch do not deserve to be celebrities for cleaning.

balalake · 26/06/2022 11:57

Present wrapping yes, towels just fold so they fit in the cupboard or other space for them.

Exactly! Or are you looking for another reason as to how hard done by women are 🙄
