Towel folding

Doing the rounds at the moment on the perfect way to fold towels.

Why are woman made to feel that this is something they should be doing to run the perfect household? When your time could be better spent drinking gin or running a company?

Any other waste of time activities that keep woman busy? Arty present wrapping is another one!

Women are our worst enemy sometimes FFS. People like Mrs Hinch do not deserve to be celebrities for cleaning.

But why not? People are "famous" for all sorts of things. She happens to be good at cleaning and has made good money doing something she enjoys - why is that a problem?

Who are the women who are 'made' to feel this way?

My OH does the laundry and he rolls the towels (as I taught him).

We fold our towels so they fit and so it’s not a mess. Not in fancy ways just tidy. I don’t wrap presents, thats DH’s job, I’m in charge of the cellotape and wine.

It is a choice though. I can see for teenagers, social media pressure is so omnipresent that it can have a huge effect on them. Adult women? I've never even looked at a towel folding video, or house cleaning one. Why on earth would I? If I came across one by accident, it wouldn't be a 'pang' of anything other than what a bloody waste of time.

Me too, I cant bear all this 'it makes me feel x' bullshit

If you're obsessing about something, want something, have low confidence, or whatever own it yourself and change it

Is this serious? You think it’s impressive that someone is famous for being “good” at cleaning??

It’s an internet video, not on the National curriculum. Who cares, even if you elevate it to an art form it hardly takes over all your waking hours. I fold mine in a fairly standard square way but if making a swan or an envelope or a replica Eiffel Tower makes someone else happy then good for them.

And I like arty present wrapping- I enjoy doing it and it looks nice. No weirder than painting a picture or folding origami.

Of all the awful dross on the internet that oppresses women, towel folding videos wouldn’t be my target…

viques · 26/06/2022 12:12

I saw a towel folding instructional video that involved folding the towels into thirds so you didn’t see any edges, ( not sure why towel edges are forbidden but there you go) tried it and it made the towels too thick to fit on the towel rail. Thanks for wasting my time Anthea Turner, remind me to return the favour one day.

angerelle · 26/06/2022 12:14

Worst temp job I ever had was a "towel folder" at the Sunlight laundry. I didn't even last a week.

dudsville · 27/06/2022 22:48

@angerelle , somehow that reads like a part of a plot in a trait interesting who

dudsville · 27/06/2022 22:48

(Damn phone) a whodunit!

Floralnomad · 27/06/2022 22:52

I sometimes make towel elephants for our bathrooms , purely because I can and it makes my family smile . My husband does all the wrapping here .

PurpleNebula84 · 27/06/2022 22:54

That's my effort!

Examples

I've done the first one took a few goes, it sits in the pile unloved no-one has unravelled it yet 😂

Wingedharpy · 27/06/2022 23:00

You need extra tuition @PurpleNebula84 , clearly!😉

Although I doubt they have YouTube videos for that🤔🤔

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 27/06/2022 23:11

Dh saw one of these sorts of videos, I think by someone Japanese? He tried it and now he folds all the Owens to the right size for the linen cupboard shelf, all the sheets( fitted as well!) his jumpers, my jumpers….fab.

Whatup · 28/06/2022 00:01

I like folding loo roll ends into triangles but then no one is allowed to use them.

easyday · 28/06/2022 00:25

I fold over once and put on towel rail, as does everyone who uses one. Then tossed in the laundry and once out back on the towel rail. It takes no time whatsoever.
But maybe I'm lazy as I don't even make my bed daily 🙀🙀

Most towel folding videos on YouTube are ASMR aren't they?

Absolutely. I’ve watched all sort of folding videos on occasion. I’ve had various phases of folding things a certain way but it never lasts ( it’s quite soothing if things in life are a bit chaotic though I find )

What's ASMR?

Isausernameavailable · 28/06/2022 01:11

Bit naff though, like a pretentious Premier inn

Boxowine · 28/06/2022 01:24

The last time I replaced my towels I got all matching bamboo fabric towels. And fewer. I do fold them all a certain way and I kind of like the way they all fit and match and I don't have any extraneous ones. But it is the reduction in number that really makes it better. I thought I'd be washing more but it's actually less effort. One load a week and done.

Vionnet · 28/06/2022 01:34

Those towels look a bit naff. The middle one looks like a FB Bundle of Crap Gift.

sleepygal · 28/06/2022 01:02

What's ASMR?

Gosh you have been on the internet and escaped knowing what this is - a dying breed!
Its Auto sensory meridian response.
Where something or someone triggers a very relaxed feeling in you and often tingles in your head / arms / legs etc.
Triggers are most often someone whispering, someone paying you close attention, tapping, brushing or other soft sounds.
Ive had it since early child hood as long as I can remember but until 2016 had no idea that anyone else felt the same things!!

Chakraleaf · 28/06/2022 07:48

She barely cleans. She knew exactly what she was doing to get famous!
