For a short holiday (like5-7 days)
Young couple wanting to enjoy sun, sea, good food and drinks.

would Menorca work for this? Where to go? Where to stay? Anything specific you would recommend to do/visit while there?

Ignore the thread police OP.

I love Menorca and have been several times. My favourite part is Cala Galdana.

One thing I would say, is it's not a very nightlife oriented place - which is why I love it so much!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 20/06/2022 20:35

We like quiet places but even we were wondering what we had done choosing Menorca, there was only half a dozen restaurants in the whole resort and very much geared to the British. It's beautiful but very sedate. Perfect for young families but I wouldn't recommend it to a couple. Majorca or Ibiza would probably work better for you.

ReadySteadyBeach · 20/06/2022 20:36

Thanks so much @PAFMO ☺️ We are not looking for nightlife at all but perhaps some nice restaurants and bars… nothing crazy like I am planning to be in bed by midnight the latest 😂

Menorca is fabulous. As long as you’re not expecting nightclubs you’ll enjoy it. When I win the lottery I’m moving there.

Same here I love Menorca.

itsabingting · 20/06/2022 20:47

It's very quiet and family orientated. I'd have found it a bit too family-ish before I had DC, and I was also a nice meal and bed by midnight type!

DH and I really enjoyed Palma in Mallorca before DC. It's like a tiny Barcelona on the beach with gorgeous restaurants, a marina and quiet. Ses Illettes is a beautiful quiet beach nearish.

The beaches in both Mallorca and Menorca are stunning but you need a car or get taxis.

dontcallmelen · 20/06/2022 20:50

Mahon is worth visiting as is Ciutadella the two main big towns, it’s fairly easy to get around especially if you hire a car for a few days, it’s a very pretty island with really good beaches/coves some resorts are slightly more livelier than others but it’s definitely not a place for clubbing or bars open very late.

bellamountain · 20/06/2022 20:55

I used to live in Menorca. I would suggest staying Mahon side, Es Castell is lovely (Cala Fonts for restaurants / harbour). Five minutes to Mahon which is a beautiful city. So many beautiful beaches so definitely hire a car.

justneedtorantalot · 20/06/2022 20:57

Cala Galdana is beautiful!

lobsterkiller · 20/06/2022 20:58

I've just booked for next year. It's a gorgeous and relaxed island. I can't wait to go and switch off for a week.

Arnaquer · 20/06/2022 21:00

It's quiet but pretty. If you don't have children I'd stay either near Mahon or cuitadella.

Hellocatshome · 20/06/2022 21:01

Menorca is lovely and relaxed, very young family oriented and there will be kids everywhere it as long as you dont mind that its brilliant. Great restaurants but look around and don't go for the tourist traps.

IamnotSethRogan · 20/06/2022 21:02

I love Menorca and would absolutely recommend going to binifadet vineyards. Excellent food and wine!

MissCalamity · 20/06/2022 21:02

I lived in Mahon for a summer in 2003 and loved it, beautiful harbour & some fab restaurants and the odd lively bar.
If you're staying in Mahon, buses to various resorts are easy to catch but hiring a car would definitely be better.
Going back there next summer with my family & am going to spend the day on my own wandering around Mahon pretending it was 20 years ago 😱

Went to Cala Galdana in September and it was lovely. Cuitadela is definitely worth a trip. I'd go back.

SpeedofaSloth · 20/06/2022 22:03

I think we chose our resort badly, I have never seen so many cockroaches, but I would go back if I could get some advice on a better resort.

ReadySteadyBeach · 20/06/2022 22:04

Oh no, I feel like I’m getting a little bit put off😬 like is there no nice restaurants and bars or places where you can get nice (and I mean nice, not like cheap whit club-y) drinks?
or is the whole island very much about families?

I went in my twenties pre children and loved it.

Hohofortherobbers · 20/06/2022 22:08

We went with primary aged children last year, it's pretty and unspoilt and the food was lovely. I'd recommend for a couple, get a car and explore. It's definitely not club med or 18-30. Some very pretty little harbours and marinas with traditional restaurants to enjoy.

Not really OP. See my comment above recommending Palma instead! Menorca is gorgeous but only for families with DC - imho.

tobee · 20/06/2022 22:17

Another one loving Cala Galdana! Last time we went there (short stop off on the way to airport) the sea was closed due to jelly fish! Sad I like Cala en Bosch and Ciutadella and Fornells too!

tobee · 20/06/2022 22:18

It really isn't only for families!

ReadySteadyBeach · 20/06/2022 22:18

@itsabingting ive been to Palma / Majorca quite a few times before. It’s OK, I didn’t love it that much but I guess each to their own. They were still great holidays ☺️ But fancy trying out another place
