Irresponsible text on homework

DD1 is in Year 1 and got a weird text for her homework.

The text is about a boy who wakes up in the middle of the night and sneaks into the kitchen to eat chocolate cake.

AIBU to think this is totally inappropriate and irresponsible?.... These kids are 5/6 years old, they don't need to be encouraged to have this kind of unhealthy and also deceitful behaviour (the boy complains the floor creaks and is going to wake up his parents).

It's a Michael Rosen poem and the mother gets upset with the boy in the morning when she finds out. However the excerpt in the homework doesn't include this last part.

It's quite a fun poem but for older children who know better..... and maybe not something to show at school....

If this is true I feel sorry for the little girl.

I’ve heard it all now. Glad your DD is not in my class.

Helpyou · 16/06/2022 19:08

Absolutely fine. It's a bit of fun! Do you never joke about with your child?

I forgot how much I love that poem. Thank you.

wigywhoo · 16/06/2022 19:12

Well, that's unanimous OP! I think you win Mumsnet this evening Grin

SnowyPetals · 16/06/2022 19:12

😂😂😂😂😂 This is the most P of PFB thing I have ever read! Personally I am amazed that Julia Donaldson hasn't been arrested for encouraging children to tell lies in The Gruffalo.....

HeyMicky · 16/06/2022 19:13

Totally agree. We were given a book at nursery about a caterpillar who gorged on obscene amounts of food then had a nap, the greedy, lazy bastard

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 16/06/2022 19:13

Log it with 101, then book yourself a spa day to get over the shock of this abhorrent poem about chocolate cake.

Michael Rosen is a rhyming Satan.

amylou8 · 16/06/2022 19:16

I remember being read this poem in primary school the best part of 40 years ago. I loved it then and still do.
Give your head a wobble op.

SparkyBlue · 16/06/2022 19:16

This has to be a joke surely. DD had a poet come into her class today. The OP would need to be sedated if she heard the poems

Ponderingwindow · 16/06/2022 19:17

I promise you, your 5 year old has already figured out that being sneaky is possible and that chocolate cake tastes good.

redbigbananafeet · 16/06/2022 19:17

I'm embarrassed for you OP.

Cas112 · 16/06/2022 19:17

Surely this is a joke?

😂

Also Winnie the Pooh - his name sounds like fecal matter and he overdoes the honey.

dontyoubother · 16/06/2022 19:19

Shit I've just realised I sent a reading book home with one group last week about a cat who hides in a pick up truck and ends up in India, what if one of the kids tries this? Highly irresponsible. Sound the klaxons!

MissNothing1991 · 16/06/2022 19:20

🤣🤣🤣🤣

loobylou10 · 16/06/2022 19:20

You are THAT parent 😂😂😂

Pbbananabagel · 16/06/2022 19:20

@Clymene its all fun until someone pokes the bear..

runningonberocca · 16/06/2022 19:21

You can’t be serious! Lol!!!!! I really feel for teachers

yousexybugger · 16/06/2022 19:22

I don't get your point OP. Do you think that the main purpose of literature, from children's books and poems, is to provide moral and behavioural guidance? A) Isn't that your job as a parent? B) What a dull and joyless worldview you have!

I am also now thinking about cake.

OnlineGirlGuides · 16/06/2022 19:23

My Year 2 DD did this this year, she loved it, kept saying it wasn't the boy who ate the chocolate cake it was her headteacher, who when asked would just wink 😂
