AIBU to think Lucy and Yak are the new MN Boden?

I remember when Boden was the MN "favourite" and recommended all the time. A nice cotton A line printed skirt and a classic cotton T shirt with a good fit etc.

I believe Lucy and Yak is now the new Boden. The new Favoured MN Brand. I have myself actually recommended it to someone today, and also Sugarhill. Jumpsuits with dinosaur prints or dungarees with rainbows on.

Let us not turn this into the dungarees are wrong v dungarees are fab Fight Club. But AIBU to believe L & Y are the new love of MN and have overtaken Boden?

(I've not enabled voting as you can't set that up on the fucking app. And this a duplicate as I fucked up the first one and have asked for it to be deleted Blush)

I think some of these companies are middle class signifiers and L&Y are one of them.

Notonthestairs · 16/06/2022 13:46

I thought Hush was the new Boden?
I think it was Me & Em before then and then Mint Velvet.

Somethingsnappy · 16/06/2022 13:46

I'm not sure. They're still quite quirky, so popular, but not necessarily mass appeal? Might be wrong though. I like them. Not sure about the new menstrual themed items though!

Love your username!

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/06/2022 13:47

I'm not mentioning Hush as I desperately wanted one of their flouncy skirts which was too expensive sold out. Hush can fuck off.

MENSTRUAL THEMED ITEMS what?! I shall go and investigate and if there are any references to people I will see you over at FWR Grin

Never seen L&Y mentioned on here until this thread, but I love my dungarees!! I've also got a really comfy pair of joggers from them. So they definitely get my vote

Sexnotgender · 16/06/2022 13:50

I’m not sure they’re as mass market as Boden. A bit more of a niche product that appeals to a very particular demographic.

😂

Oh yes, go check out the period-related prints. I don't think I'm quite 'there' yet!

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/06/2022 13:52

Oh dear I just googled and dearly regret starting this thread. Although it may draw mainstream attention to the fact that people who aren't women can have periods apparently.

I don't think so. Boden had clothes most mums could get away with whereas Lucy and Yak have that 'oversized toddler' look that only the very slim and pretty can wear without looking ridiculous.

Oh don't you believe in manstruation snappy? It's quite the thing. As is Irritable Male Syndrome. I'm not joking btw for anyone unaware of this.

Anyway. I'm fond of a dinosaur print.

Nah they're way too naff for MN. A proper MNer buys timeless pieces from The White Company, or Sea Salt and always wears them with Birkenstocks.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/06/2022 13:57

Oh yes, Birkenstocks. I always wear them when I want to cut my feet to ribbons and donate some blood. Yes they are timeless though and are really expensive but will last for years.

I feel this will come across as mockery and it isn't intended to be, I'm just a naturally grumpy person Grin

Ooo no. I just googled them (without my glasses on) and thought I'd arrived in the children's section. Put specs on and saw it was actually adult women's stuff Grin

Sliceofpi · 16/06/2022 14:10

I’ve checked, it appears that people have periods, no mention of those pesky vagina havers. I’ve emailed them on the ‘contact us’ bit of their website to ask if they can tell me what sex period havers are.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 16/06/2022 14:13

I really want a pair of their dungarees but I know, being short and naturally a bit scruffy, I shall end up looking like a Weeble that's fallen on hard times.

I like their pinafore dresses though.

swimmingwiththefishes · 16/06/2022 14:16

I've actually just had a look based on your recommendation on my other thread (still dusting myself off from the rubble)

The period positivity designs are...interesting?

Sadly no dinosaur print jumpsuits for me-the boiler style stuff just doesn't suit me so I'll continue my quest for one!

I'd love to be able to wear Lucy and yak dungarees but alas my chubby tummy won't allow it 😔

But I do agree Lucy and yak seem to be the new boden-I've seen them pop up everywhere recently

Suddha · 16/06/2022 14:16

I did like Lucy and Yak but the new menstrual themed stuff is disgusting. Totally turned me off the brand. It’s just gross, what sort of weirdo wants to walk around with pictures of period blood on them.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/06/2022 14:53

Ah yes boilersuits...how I love them but how they don't suit me! In my head I look stylish and lovely, in the mirror I look like General Zod's wife (for those of us who remember the original Superman) and on a bad day, General Zod himself.

Yak is certainly the sound I make when I look at a lot of their stuff 😁

BlackberrySky · 16/06/2022 15:06

Lucy and Yak is nothing like as mainstream middle class as Boden and is a lot more quirky. I don't think lots of users on MN like it, but a smaller number of loyal buyers are on all the threads. Personally, I have never seen anything from Lucy and Yak that I would wear to a fancy dress party, let alone pay money to have in my wardrobe!

daisyjgrey · 16/06/2022 15:14

Which Birkenstocks are you wearing that cut your feet to ribbons?! Are your feet made from gossamer?

Bumpsadaisie · 16/06/2022 15:19

My DD looks good in her Lucy and Yak stuff.

She's a lithe 13 year old though.

The effect would most def not be the same on moi.

General Zod's wife was hot though - she is rocking that look, so if that's what you see in the mirror, then go buy a truck load of boilersuits!!
