AIBU to think Lucy and Yak are the new MN Boden?

I remember when Boden was the MN "favourite" and recommended all the time. A nice cotton A line printed skirt and a classic cotton T shirt with a good fit etc.

I believe Lucy and Yak is now the new Boden. The new Favoured MN Brand. I have myself actually recommended it to someone today, and also Sugarhill. Jumpsuits with dinosaur prints or dungarees with rainbows on.

Let us not turn this into the dungarees are wrong v dungarees are fab Fight Club. But AIBU to believe L & Y are the new love of MN and have overtaken Boden?

(I've not enabled voting as you can't set that up on the fucking app. And this a duplicate as I fucked up the first one and have asked for it to be deleted Blush)

16yr old DD loves the dungarees and she always gets compliments on them when out and about, she wouldn't wear Boden. I can't afford to blow £50+ on dungarees, though I live some of the prints.

doomoon · 16/06/2022 22:50

Never heard of them, and have just made the mistake of Googling.

I'd say they really are not the new MN Boden. I know I'm a middle aged, middle class mother, but nfw would I wear those Andy Pandy dungarees. Whereas Boden does still sell stuff I'd actually wear (though not the stuff made in China).

doomoon · 16/06/2022 22:53

I've just looked further, and regret it.

Working closely with the talented Kelly Malka and Sam Dawood, the latest prints are not only eye-catching, but designed to spark conversation. The collaboration with Sam Dawood is purposefully [I think they mean deliberately] genderless, with a red colour pallet that challenges the stigma around bleeding during your period, while Kelly Malka’s playful design highlights how no one Vulva is the same.

Then there's some guff about "vulva stigma" (because that's really something I've been bothered by over the past 50 years)

Then, to cap it all: menstruation is still a topic many shy away from, while transgender and nonbinary menstruators are underreperesented.

Lucy and Yuk can fuck right off.

BringMeTea · 16/06/2022 22:56

Hear hear. Fuck far far away.

StrawberrySquash · 16/06/2022 22:57

No, at least Boden clothes have some shape. Lucy and Yak just look designed to destroy any body shape you might have had.

User2145738790 · 16/06/2022 23:00

Those dungarees look too out there. MN will stick to their Breton stripy tops and beige sack dresses thank you very much.

DiscoBadgers · 16/06/2022 23:00

I think scamp and dude is the new mumsnet uniform tbh

MintyGreenDreams · 16/06/2022 23:02

Just been onto their website for the first time.My eyes! Wtaf are those dungarees even fucking Blippi wouldn't wear them.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/06/2022 23:06

I live in Walthamstow and Lucy & Yak reached full saturation a few years ago. It has now peaked because the wrong people are wearing them and in the wrong way.

Msmbc · 16/06/2022 23:07

They do really good quality and flattering jeans and trousers too, it's not all quirky prints and dungarees

Popsicle33 · 16/06/2022 23:09

I've got a Lucy &Yak black boiler suit and despite being rather porky, I think I look bloody wonderful. And it's incredibly comfortable. I draw the line at their dungarees/toddler stuff though.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/06/2022 23:11

Then there's some guff about "vulva stigma"

In fairness that is relevant to their product, because if you don't get the size right dungarees will stigmatise your vulva.

Onlyforcake · 16/06/2022 23:12

I prefer run & fly but Lucy and yak is definitely the option for the naice trendy 30+. I'm just one of those always misses the point sorts.

Quackpot · 16/06/2022 23:26

😂😂😂

I thought Hush was the new Boden?
I think it was Me & Em before then and then Mint Velvet.

Tbf mint velvet are quite nice again now they've got some great dresses.

I like the new John Lewis range. It's like £12-30 a pop and lovely

Xmasbaby11 · 16/06/2022 23:28

Lucy and Yak are v popular with mc people around here for the last few years and they fetch a high price on Facebook market place! So many mums wear the dungarees or pinafores. They don't suit many people, certainly not me at size 22!

Loads of Seasalt too - i have the same coat as a few people I know! I don't mind, clothes aren't a big deal to me and I don't feel I have a unique look.

Highlyquestionablehoumous · 16/06/2022 23:32

I don't get how Lucy and Yak are so popular, their dungarees are an awful fit. I am very short and even on me the body part of the dungarees was so short it almost came under my tits? I can't understand how they would work on anyone taller?

Lakeowlmoon · 16/06/2022 23:35

Just had a look - the prints are horrid- like Sainsbury Tu, on a bad day. I must be missing something.

SkiingIsHeaven · 16/06/2022 23:55

Lucy and Yak is fine if you want to look like a giant baby.

JaneJeffer · 17/06/2022 00:08

Reading their blurb makes me feel like I don't understand English
no one Vulva is the same for example.

apintortwo · 17/06/2022 00:23

Why would anyone want to wear a dungaree? 😳

violetsanddaisies · 17/06/2022 00:25

Sadly you missed their special online event where people who are not women discussed period positivity. 🤨

apintortwo · 17/06/2022 00:39

I think Lucy and Yak are the uniform of liberal ethical vegetarian feminist lefties, and that suits me perfectly. I definitely see a lot of people wearing them in my lefty circles

Well they certainly look like a uniform. Like those of American railroad workers from the 1950s. Very odd indeed

Oh fuck. Must have been essential viewing. I hope someone spoke positively about Javelin Arse, which was always one of my favourite bits of having periods. That and the diarrhoea.

Turnthatoff · 17/06/2022 15:52

I can see where the ‘Yak’ comes from
