AIBU to think Lucy and Yak are the new MN Boden?

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/06/2022 13:42

I remember when Boden was the MN "favourite" and recommended all the time. A nice cotton A line printed skirt and a classic cotton T shirt with a good fit etc.

I believe Lucy and Yak is now the new Boden. The new Favoured MN Brand. I have myself actually recommended it to someone today, and also Sugarhill. Jumpsuits with dinosaur prints or dungarees with rainbows on.

Let us not turn this into the dungarees are wrong v dungarees are fab Fight Club. But AIBU to believe L & Y are the new love of MN and have overtaken Boden?

(I've not enabled voting as you can't set that up on the fucking app. And this a duplicate as I fucked up the first one and have asked for it to be deleted Blush)

I dont think I've ever seen such hideous shapeless clothes

Pumperthepumper · 16/06/2022 15:48

Boden is the most awful, frumpy collection of nothing, it’s hideous stuff.

And Lucy and Yak, despite being ‘size inclusive’ STILL don’t do petite. So fuck them both.

I thought Hush was the new Boden?
I think it was Me & Em before then and then Mint Velvet.

Me too!

DyingForACuppa · 16/06/2022 13:54

I don't think so. Boden had clothes most mums could get away with whereas Lucy and Yak have that 'oversized toddler' look that only the very slim and pretty can wear without looking ridiculous.

Yep. My sister lives in their dungarees. They do t do her any favours!

TokyoSushi · 16/06/2022 15:52

Hey! I have a Seasalt dress & Birkenstocks on today, and a wardrobe full of Hush! I am an absolute MN cliché though!

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/06/2022 16:14

daisyjgrey · 16/06/2022 15:14

Which Birkenstocks are you wearing that cut your feet to ribbons?! Are your feet made from gossamer?

I have really narrow feet with thin translucent skin, even the narrow fitted ones rub my feet to shreds. It's a shame as I do quite like the look of them (apart from the toe post ones which make me feel a bit funny).

You’ve clearly never browsed Toast or Hush 😂

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/06/2022 16:17

Oh why thank you @canyoutoleratethis I shall buy some and accessorise them with some socket wrenches and a toolbox Grin

I'm glad this thread has raised awareness of the total bollocks of period havers even though that genuinely wasn't my intention when I started the thread!

Are Whistles and Joules passé on MN now?

Yes but it’s only cos Aldi doesn’t do clothes isn’t it, if they did that’s all we’d hear about 😉

@Sexnotgender I see your Toast and raise you...Cos. I look like a monk borrowing his monk dad's clothes.

@Pumperthepumper ASOS have lots of petite fit clothes, and lots of different brands too!

@BrightYellowDaffodil Your Friar Tuck/Weeble haircut can be combined with your monk's habit from Cos. Rocking it. Literally.

Oh this is true. You could pick up your Aldi jumpsuit whilst you are doing your weekly shop for £7 for a family of 8. Personally I would like to buy some Birkenstocks at Waitrose with my weekly shop of £801 for my family of 2.

i look like a twat in my L&Y's.
The pockets are halfway down my legs. I might sell them.

I do agree with this. I saw someone the other day in some dungarees with a very prominent “L&Y” and realised that was what everyone on here had been talking about. Just looked on the website. It’s not a glamorous look, let’s put it like that…..!

Lucy and Yak are not 'size inclusive' at all. If any of their models are 5ft 10 or over they are all over weight. What about tall thin people? Lucy and Yak dungarees would all be ridiculously short on me.

Also I hate browsing clothes online only to see a man modelling them. I know they are supposed to be unisex, but it really puts me off 😂

diamondpony80 · 16/06/2022 16:51

Oh gosh I’ve just had a look at some of their stuff. Wouldn’t be for me. They’re the kind of clothes that you can pull off in your twenties but over a certain age just look a bit eccentric.

IstayedForTheFeminism · 16/06/2022 17:55

I can't work out if I love or hate their stuff. Not that it matters. I'd look ridiculous!

Anyway, I can't find this period themed stuff you're all on about. Any chance of a link?

lucyandyak.com/blogs/news/vulvarees-period-prints-and-a-bloody-real-chat-about-it-all

the first article at the bottom of the page about late diagnosis made me 🙄 I wonder how erasing the word woman impacts the figures.

SqueakyShoe · 16/06/2022 22:02

I'm so confused. They want people to buy clothes covered in pictures of vulvas and periods, "designed to spark conversation."

But why? Why would I want random people to spark conversations with me about vulvas and periods?

Me sitting at bus stop.
Creepy man glances at garish toddlerwear and says,
"Excuse me, I couldn't help but notice the period splashes and mooncups on your fetching dungarees. Are you on your period? How's the flow? Any cramps? Want to borrow a tampon?"

NewWateringCan · 16/06/2022 22:34

I've just got my first pair, they're "fruit" patterned, look a bit vulva-y but mostly fruity I think. I like them. I don't like to dress elegantly or "classic", I find that boring for me. I like that Lucy and Yak are ethical, and that they're trans inclusive, that's important to me. I wouldn't think of them as the mumsnet uniform, I think of Joules, Boden, Cos, Hush, White Stuff etc for that. I think Lucy and Yak are the uniform of liberal ethical vegetarian feminist lefties, and that suits me perfectly. I definitely see a lot of people wearing them in my lefty circles.
also the person who said they're short, they do long lengths, and I'm tall and i got the regular and I'm going to have to take them up a bit.

FriendlyPineapple · 16/06/2022 22:39

Menstruators 🙄

Fuck off, Lucy and Yak. And take your stupid shit vulvarees with you.

Christ.

eatsleepswimdive · 16/06/2022 22:40

I seriously hope not, Lucy and Yak clothes are utterly hideous. I’m not a huge boden fan but I can see why people like it. The Lucy and yak logs makes me feel like I’m living on a different planet as I don’t get it

Their customer service is shit too.

Gardenista · 16/06/2022 22:46

I went to an art class recently - 6 of the 12 ladies there were in Lucy and yak dungarees- was quite amusing
