Not an AIBU but I've seen SO many posts recently about passports and renewals and thought others may want to know how quick passport renewals can actually be at the moment.

Applied for renewal online 17th May
28th May old passport posted off
9th Jun emailed that it has been approved
13th Jun told it has been printed
14 th Jun- today- it arrived via a woman in a high vis jacket who took a picture of my house before delivering it!

Mine is an adult renewal, so I assume this is fairly straight forward as no name changes etc.

DS's arrived today. Took exactly 3 weeks between renewal application and arrival

Yoloohno · 14/06/2022 23:34

Checking in for holiday today, my DH took 10 days in April to renew.

im sure like most of the press stories at the moment regarding holidays at the moment you’re hearing the worst.

I travelled half term, my flight went ahead, pre pandemic normal queues, minimal delay home, but this doesn’t make a story.

CornyAsACornyThing · 14/06/2022 23:39

But a month is quite a long time! Every time I've renewed a passport since 1999 (there are 5 of us) it has taken less than a week, until the two this year that have taken a month and 6 weeks.

bizzey · 14/06/2022 23:43

9 weeks....and still waiting !

Some of the horror stories are real !

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/06/2022 23:43

The problem is,when you read all the stories, is there is no logic to it. Some people get theirs with a couple of weeks, others take months. Even straight forward renewals

bizzey · 14/06/2022 23:51

I agree , no logic at all.
I sent off 3 passport renewals on the same day.
DC's child to adults came back in 3 weeks and I have had their old ones back as well.

Mine ...well it is stuck somewhere!

I am awaiting a call back from someone.

But my status has changed.
On 4th may ,it was processing..
Now it is back to 28th April saying documents received !

Mamai90 · 14/06/2022 23:57

DHs took 5 days. It was an Irish one but we were expecting to wait months!

TheFormidableMrsC · 14/06/2022 23:58

My friend just got hers back, took just under 3 weeks

AugustRose · 15/06/2022 00:03

I think we were very lucky. 1 adult and 2 DC renewals done at end of April, one needing a counter siganture, one needed a 2nd photo and all 3 came back in 3 weeks.

Adult DC didn't apply until 24th May - child to adult renewal with a name change and we got it back yesterday! She had resigned herself to not being able to come with us because she kept forgetting to get the photo done so we were very surprised when it was approved and processed so quickly.

Darnoot1 · 15/06/2022 00:05

under 2 weeks here, child renewal.
very surprised indeed.

Jumanji89 · 15/06/2022 00:50

Mine is at 10 weeks and still waiting. Think it's diabolical that people are getting them back in such a short timeframe whilst others have been left waiting. Surely it can't be hard to work through renewals chronologically

bizzey · 15/06/2022 01:04

@Jumanji89 same !

You would think the back log if April applications would be done quicker than the May or June ones !

TessBeth · 15/06/2022 06:56

My kids passports were sent off in April and we still don’t have them back. We don’t need them until August but this seems very very slow.

londonrach · 15/06/2022 07:17

Lucky you...mother in law is 14 weeks and still not back whilst father in law back within 2 weeks..posted same time. Passport office acknowledged receipt of both same time

ChangedMyNamrButStillMe · 15/06/2022 07:19

I sent mine of 25 days ago and my application still hasn’t been updated to say that my old passport has been received despite Royal Mail confirming that it was signed for the day after I posted. They won’t investigate until it’s been 6 weeks so it looks like my summer holiday is off the table unless they get their arse in gear.

balalake · 15/06/2022 07:19

It should not be something seen as celebration. It demonstrates how poor some public services have become under this government, and in part because of earlier renewals given Brexit and Covid 19.

axolotlfloof · 15/06/2022 07:34

Yep, DS's took exactly 3 weeks (child renewal).

Wowzel · 15/06/2022 07:37

I sent DDs passport back for renewal by special delivery and so i know when they received it - it took nearly 3 weeks to even book it in for processing

Bubbles2022 · 15/06/2022 07:38

18 days for a child renewal.

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 15/06/2022 07:41

Mine is a month in and still just showing as identity details received not even started processing application!!

sst1234 · 15/06/2022 07:43

Sorry a month isn’t exactly great. Let’s raise our bar and stop letting this incompetent government get away with dropping the standard on everything.

mnahmnah · 15/06/2022 07:46

We’ve done three renewals recently, one adult two children. Two of them took two weeks, the other three weeks. Lots of horror stories but also lots of people getting them without issue and quickly.

PedalPedal · 15/06/2022 07:47

One adult one child arrived within 3 weeks at the beginning of March

suckingonchillidogs · 15/06/2022 07:50

Got mine in about a month but there's no sign of my old one weeks later. They are meant to return them aren't they?

MacaroniBaloney · 15/06/2022 07:51

We got an adult and child renewal back this week, 3 weeks in total.

Weird how older stuff is still in the system. I'm guessing they've got one group of people working new applications and a second working the old wip.
