Not an AIBU but I've seen SO many posts recently about passports and renewals and thought others may want to know how quick passport renewals can actually be at the moment.

Applied for renewal online 17th May
28th May old passport posted off
9th Jun emailed that it has been approved
13th Jun told it has been printed
14 th Jun- today- it arrived via a woman in a high vis jacket who took a picture of my house before delivering it!

Mine is an adult renewal, so I assume this is fairly straight forward as no name changes etc.

February … still waiting!

Ours is finally being delivered today apparently 🙏🎉

My DD’s took 5 days from application online, and posting of old one, to receipt of new one - the old passport was returned on day 6…

FatOaf · 22/08/2022 08:08

My passport renewal took exactly 1 week in June.

Passport had expired over a year ago. Photo from supermarket booth. Online application. Old passport sent off day after application.

There must be some kind of randomness, since clearly many people are waiting several months.

Mine arrived after 6.5 months!!

We're still waiting for DH's replacement passport. It's been 11 weeks so far.
We are abroad but this is ridiculous. I've told him to ring them up and ask about it. His status hasn't changed since sending the application in.
Personally, I would have chased it up much earlier but DH keeps forgetting. We were meant to fly to the UK this week but obviously can't now. (We got an emergency passport for the last trip to the UK and that one came through within 2 days.)

In summer 2020 mine literally took about one week, I am not joking it was incredibly fast but wouldn’t have needed it until October.

however with more restrictions the holiday was cancelled and I got married last year, so have used the new passport a grand total of twice and now it’s time to bite the bullet and pay the £75 to reflect my new name. 😂

DSs (renewal from child passport which expired in 2021 to a new adult passport) took 8 working days. Applied online on the Friday, sent old passport on the Saturday morning, email saying all good middle of the following week and new passport arrived beginning of the next week. I was very impressed.

Teateaandmoretea · 23/08/2022 19:32

We finally have it!!!!! Have a holiday booked now for October half term.

Teateaandmoretea · 23/08/2022 19:34

@CouldBeOuting it would be far more impressive if they actually did them in order of application imo. But I’m not a miserable so and so who sees life as a race to the bottom so I’m genuinely glad you were luckier than us!
