Sorry am posting here for traffic !

whilr enjoying a bag of popcorn last night I got skin of popcorn kernel stuck in my throat 🥴

ive tried drinking fluids , gargling fizzy drink , clearing throat . Nothing is working and I’ve a sore throat now from intense coughing trying to clear it

I googled and have frightened myself with stories of throat closing over 🤭

anyone have any tried and tested remedies to get the feckin thing out ?!!!
please help !!

Are you absolutely sure it is stuck still? Is it possible it has just caught your throat and you now feel like it's still there?

BaaCake · 14/06/2022 17:12

Have you eaten anything since?

Karwomannghia · 14/06/2022 17:13

I got a mackerel bone stuck once and they got it out at minor injuries with some special tweezers. It prob won’t come out on its own if it’s really stuck.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 14/06/2022 17:13

Honey? Something sticky and viscous.

Purpleavocado · 14/06/2022 17:13

If you have white bread eat that on it's own, and then wash it down with water. It should 'catch' the popcorn more than water alone.

Helpgivemesomeperspective · 14/06/2022 17:13

Eat some additional food to help move it through.

Givemeallthegin8 · 14/06/2022 17:15

Sorry yes I’ve eaten ! I’ve tried eating plain bread to catch it but nothing is working
yes definitely still there

How about eating something like a slice of bread. As the bread slides down perhaps the sweetcorn will get taken along with it.

As a PP said, it might just feel like it's still there because your throat is irritated now.

Givemeallthegin8 · 14/06/2022 17:16

The strange thing is when I was in work earlier I thought it had gone but about an hour later it came back . I was drinking hot tea at the time so not sure if I just numbed my throat or something!

Sorry cross posted OP.

How about phoning 111 for advice.

Lindy2 · 14/06/2022 17:17

Hot tea might have softened it.

How about hot tea followed by bread.

Givemeallthegin8 · 14/06/2022 17:18

@Lindy2 im in Ireland, we don’t have 111 unfortunately

When I had a fish bone stuck in my throat I was told to eat an oat cake as the roughness of the biscuit would catch the bone and it worked. Hope you get sorted soon. I wont eat popcorn anymore as I got some stuck once.

Firesidefox · 14/06/2022 17:20

I had this with a peanut a week ago and went to A&E and they put a camera down my throat. Turns out it wasn't there but had scraped my throat so it felt like it was there.

Do you think this is the case with you?

If you think it's in the windpipe, drink fizzy drinks to encourage big burps to dislodge it.

If it's in the food pipe, then it shoudl ultimately dissolve or go away.

dudsville · 14/06/2022 17:23

I used to get this often. It's so annoying, but in my experience it will pass in time, a day or two, with ordinary living, and perhaps it breaks down a bit to whilst hanging out there. I'm now just super careful when eating popcorn!

saltnvinegarlover · 14/06/2022 17:24

Yep I was literally trying to put my fingers down to throat to try and scrape it out ☹️ tbh I didn't even think of going to the drs

JustTheOneSwan · 14/06/2022 17:26

My Mum had this once and cleared it with yoghurt, the thick stuff. I've no basis that it wasn't coincidental but it's worth a try!

beastlyslumber · 14/06/2022 17:44

This is why I don't eat popcorn!

The bread or oatcakes thing might work, but failing that, minor injuries clinic?

Spanielsarepainless · 14/06/2022 18:05

Bread, no butter, as much as you can swallow in one lump. It works for dishonest too.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/06/2022 18:09

I came to suggest something scratchy - an oatcake or ryvita - though I appreciate that will make your throat more sore, in the short term.

Lulu1919 · 14/06/2022 18:14

Bread / toast ?

Givemeallthegin8 · 14/06/2022 19:02

Still there, have tried everything mentioned apart from oat cakes as I have none
it’s driving me insane

I think if an antigen test somewhere , will get the stick from that to see if I can somehow remove it 😬
