Sorry am posting here for traffic !

whilr enjoying a bag of popcorn last night I got skin of popcorn kernel stuck in my throat 🥴

ive tried drinking fluids , gargling fizzy drink , clearing throat . Nothing is working and I’ve a sore throat now from intense coughing trying to clear it

I googled and have frightened myself with stories of throat closing over 🤭

anyone have any tried and tested remedies to get the feckin thing out ?!!!

Soft bread and some type of goopy/sticky spread. I usually go for peanut butter but I think honey would work just as well (or melted marshmallow) the key is to eat a large enough bite and swallow without making yourself choke. (Although that might get you seen by a doctor sooner. I wouldn’t recommend that option 😜)

Benmac · 14/06/2022 22:33

Bread slathered in butter. Likely though whatever was there and has scratched your throat. If you have Stepsils or anything similar try that. Good luck. By

I got a tiny fish bone stuck and had the feeling of my throat closing. Ended up in A&E and it dislodged with soft food, but if that hadn't worked they were going to operate. I felt bad about going when soft food sorted it, but I was scared enough to want to be in the right place if it got worse.

My gran said when she had a fish bone stuck in her throat the hospital gave her a cotton wool sandwich to eat.

What?

LIGHTHEARTED

Drinking something really fizzy might help?

Can you see it or is it further down?

I got a trout bone stuck in my throat in the late 90s and went to A&E (no minor injuries). It was lodged in my tonsil - I could see the bloody thing! Tried to get it out myself with tweezers to no avail. Was asked by about 5 different medical professionals 'you think you have a fish bone stuck?' With a head tilt. No, I can see the bloody thing so unless I've an eyesight problem as well it's not a figment of my imagination! Waited 1.5 hours (v quick by todays standards) and it was hoiked out in about a minute once the doctor came along with some extra large tweezers!

@Doyoumind a cotton wool sandwich 🤮

its still there but has moved further down so am hoping it will dislodge today , it’s driving me insane , I’ve a sore throat from the constant swallowing!

@mm40 🤣🤣💕

@AllLopsided nope can’t see it at all, it’s gone further now so surely needs to just keep moving along - sooner the better !

I’ve heard that bread soaked in olive oil (usually) works for fish bones stuck in the throat.

BaaCake · 15/06/2022 08:09

Ah good sounds like it's on its way down.

0blio · 15/06/2022 08:16

Doyoumind · 14/06/2022 23:38

What?

Yep, cottonwool sandwiches if you accidentally swallowed a pin too. Seemed to be a more common accident years ago when lots of women did dressmaking and put pins in their mouths.

BaaCake · 15/06/2022 08:17

But don't you then have cotton wool stuck in your throat?

HappyCup · 15/06/2022 08:32

But then you have a pin working it’s way through your digestive system?! It won’t dissolve like a fish bone.

You want to lubricate your throat. It will be dry and inflamed from the coughing now, which will make it harder for the popcorn to come out. Lubricating it will also ease your sore throat.

To lubricate it:
Keep sipping water.
Gargle with salt water (boil a cup of water, add half a teaspoon of salt, allow to cool).
If you're breathing through your mouth, cold air will be irritating your throat. Close your mouth and breath through your nose.
Swallow frequently as the saliva will help moisturise your throat.
Steam bowl (boiling water in a bowl, breathe in the steam).
Suck boiled sweets/lozenges

A more effective coughing method to dislodge something is:
Sit upright on a chair.
Lean forwards slightly.
Take a deep breath in through your nose.
Cough once; then cough again a second time.

cottagegardenflower · 15/06/2022 09:16

Probably just scratched it and it feels like a kernel.

DollyTots · 15/06/2022 09:24

I had this before, stuck around for a few days and suddenly realised it had cleared when I had eaten a pastry. I think it’s just a case of time and keep eating, something should hopefully clear it.

I felt so stupid feeling so worried about a little bit of popcorn but it’s horrible isn’t it?

Mojitomogul · 15/06/2022 09:30

I had this exact thing when a tiny piece of sharp bacon got caught. I thought it had just scratched my throat as nothing seemed to dislodge it. In the end I was out drinking cocktails about 12 hours after it happened, and I managed to stick my finger down to dislodge it and pulled it out. Omg the relief! I wouldn't recommend sticking anything down your throat like a Covid swap, that could really hurt it. Can your finger reach?

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 15/06/2022 10:06

When DH got some apple stuck, butter did the trick - bit disgusting though.

god love you!! Hope you’re ok.

I laughed at your daughters reaction to your fillings 😂

You’ve reminded me of a terrible terrible time I got a tummy bug and had to puke UP popcorn, let me tell you - it expands more… I felt like the machine that makes those white filling things when you are packing up a box (sorry) 🤢 it was a good 15 years before I ate another piece.

twoandcooplease · 15/06/2022 16:15

Here for the update- hope it dislodges itself soon op

Givemeallthegin8 · 15/06/2022 17:38

@Anyfeckinusername oh god that sounds horrendous, I don’t think I’ll ever eat popcorn again

thanks everyone for tips and tricks .

It’s still there , I’m so annoyed with it ,

went to pharmacist and they recommended all the things I’ve done. They said if it’s not gone by tomorrow to go up to after hours doc ( it’s in the hospital) and see if they can get it out.

Please everyone send positive thoughts for it to move along 🥴🥴
