Brilliant. Tory party are stuck with this massive electoral liability for another year. Couldn't ask for a better result as someone who wants the Tories out Grin

Iloveychildrenandmydoggie · 06/06/2022 21:06

The slimey pig will be a bacon sandwich very soon!!

Hellocatshome · 06/06/2022 21:06

Thats a lot of your own people not having confidence in you. How could you actually stay knowing that?

cakeorwine · 06/06/2022 21:06

So if Labour call for a confidence vote in the PM, they should win....

But it doesn't work like that

WaitroseWoman · 06/06/2022 21:06

They will not be happy with 148, even though they said a majority of one would be a victory.

Probably the best outcome. The Tory party is headed up by a week leader. 41% of his MPs have no confidence in him. The Tory party is toast at the next election.

he may not last a year. Thatcher won by 147 votes and had to resign 5 days later. of course Boris has the skin of a rhino so maybe he could last a bit longer than that.

nauticant · 06/06/2022 21:08

That's 148 who actively want him gone. I wonder how the 211 splits between those who actively want him to stay and those who held their nose when they voted feeling they're stuck with him but would rather not be.

WaitroseWoman · 06/06/2022 21:09

59% for
41% against

  1. Ouch.

Dreams over Boris. It’s not gonna work is it.

can you kindly piss off sooner rather than later, for all of our sakes.

If you think that Johnson had 170 voters in jobs, and nearly all of those would vote for him, then you see getting 211 votes in total was a bad result. Effectively, he only convinced 42 colleagues to vote for him, whereas the rest do not want him. He's absolutely finished.

DirtyteaCup · 06/06/2022 21:12

I honestly don’t know who any of them are but a steady steam running away now

That's not a ringing endorsement is it. I will be surprised if he lasts a year, 148 of his MPs have no confidence in him

there must be a Westminster boot polisher

Just from Chris Mason, BBC Political editor

'This vote means the issue won't go away

An arithmetic win for Boris Johnson - but boy, look at those numbers.
We know that 148 Conservative MPs think the country would be better off shot of him.
That's 148 Conservative MPs, not floating voters.
That is a far higher proportion of his MPs attempting to eject him than wanted shot of Theresa May when she faced a confidence vote.
And she was gone within six months.
His supporters say the situation is very different now - but this vote means this issue won't go away.
The result is at the upper end of the expectations of the rebels, who never expected to win.
They will see this as losing the battle, but the war to replace him goes on.'

Bring on Tiverton and Wakefield. See how much the 211 love him after those results come in. Pack that Gucci Carrie.

Should've mentioned Mumsnet Wink if you wanted chasing by 211 Tory MPs
