To want this sort of life

I follow a set of people I know through friends of friends on Instagram and just really envy their lives. There’s a big group of friends whose kids all play together, the mums all regularly have lunches/nights out and they’ve all just gone away to an island with partners/husbands too. They’re all really wealthy and good looking and their lives just look perfect
Anyone have a life like this 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think envying anyone from whose life you only know from social media/ Instagram is really dangerous as you only get a very contrived (and often artificial) snapshot.

I don't blame you for feeling that way - I just don't bother with a lot of social media for this reason.

FlissyPaps · 04/06/2022 22:30

I voted YABU because instagram is not real life.

People only post what others want to see.

People very rarely post about their struggles.

Do not compare your life and your situation to people you see online. A big group of women - there’s bound to be bitchyness and people talking about others.

Being wealthy and good looking doesn’t equal happiness.

Appreciate what you have, OP❤

@Dia12 I know of them
in ‘Real life’ and their lives really do seem fabulous. I’m very grateful for my little family and our friends but it’s not on the same scale as this…perhaps it’s just about making more effort to organise these get togethers…they seem to constantly be really living life to the max

Social media is fake. No one's life is really like that. Make your own wonderful life and it will be real. So go and get on with it and stop wasting time looking at lies.

Minimalme · 04/06/2022 22:46

I have got to an age and stage in my life where groups of wealthy people having fun irritates me.

I can't stand the idea they probably think they are rich and wealthy because they have worked hard, made good decisions and have just REALLY earned it. And the rest of us haven't and should just suck it up.

They may be really nice people but I couldn't actively follow them on Instagram without raising my blood pressure.

This a million times over. Stop SM it will suck the life out of your life.

Minimalme · 04/06/2022 22:49

Also, I know two people with money and they have the group holidays to nice Islands or rent a large house in Suffolk for a low-key get together.

They both have pretty loveless marriages. Much prefer to have dh and bugger all money that what they have. Truthfully.

pinkpeoniesmakemesmile · 04/06/2022 22:53

Please don't compare your life to anyone else's on SM. It really is never as it is displayed.

Penguinsaregreat · 04/06/2022 22:53

I don’t do instagram.
I rarely do fb either.
I do have lots of friends and a great, small, tight family.
I’m not rich.
Celebrate your own achievements op, nurture and care for your own family.
You will reap the benefits.

Blahdeblahh · 04/06/2022 22:56

They are all so perfect, perfect figures, clothes, houses, loads of kids, good looking husbands…all of them 🙈

It’s probably for the best that you don’t actively follow wealthy people then …

Seems a bit much for your blood to be boiling seeing others having fun.

PandaOrLion · 04/06/2022 22:58

What purpose is it serving to spend this time thinking about them?

FreezyFreezy · 04/06/2022 23:01

Those people make their money by selling The Dream; they can't show the shit side of life because that's not anything anyone would dream of!

Their apparent wealth will most likely be built on credit and, like any house of cards, can easily fall down.

Blahdeblahh · 04/06/2022 23:03

@PandaOrLion I'm not really spending time thinking about them, just went on before and saw another amazing looking trip to an island as a massive group..my friends and I probably wouldn’t have the energy for this amount of get together sand drinking..they all have young kids too

I’ll be honest that sounds boring and empty. I’d last a week if that.

you’re better off out of it OP.

Blahdeblahh · 04/06/2022 23:03

@FreezyFreezy Definitely not on credit, think money money

Social media is great if it inspires you or enhances your life somewhat. Use it for that.
If you start feeling envious, inadequate or negative about your own life then back off.

2bazookas · 04/06/2022 23:23

You're being pathetic. Live your own life.

Blahdeblahh · 04/06/2022 23:25

Instagram isn't real life. Anyone who stages their life to look perfect on Instagram isn't truly living in the moment.

However gorgeous the photos of the happy families all playing together are, the reality will be much like your life: children squabbling, feeling sick, shouting 'mummy' when you need a break. There will be pecking orders within the families and bickering between spouses and period pain and disagreements on what to eat and how will drive etc etc. because that is real life. Along with the fun.

Don;t compare your real life to their curated highlights. Just get on with enjoying your own life and being deeply appreciative for what is good in it and making changes where it is not working so well.

Branleuse · 04/06/2022 23:27

I think lots of instagram people look like they have lovely lives. Its never wise to compare your real life to someone elses edited snapshots.

Katya213 · 04/06/2022 23:31

No and I wouldn't want one. Sounds like a nightmare.
