Crabs and nips

I know, clickbait-ish but not really!

I was at a Jubilee parade today with a male friend (who thinks he is king of witticisms). There was a crab mascot in the parade. Anyway, at the end, when everyone was dispersing, we bumped into the crab mascot being lead along by a lady. I doubt the person in the costume could have seen out and had been guided through the whole parade. My friend shouted to crab and guide, 'bit nippy today' and started to laugh. Guide looked horrified, I stepped back and said 'WTF?'. Friend was confused and said 'you know, crab, nippy?'.

He's 54 and I had to explain why you don't shout a comment like that at a woman and had to explain. I think he understood because he didn't speak to me again, sulked then went home.

Was IBU to call him out or was I being precious? The guide was a similar age to us.

I wouldn’t have batters an eyelid at his comment, but as long as you did just explain what you thought he meant rather than lay into him, his reaction seems extream.

Before I got to the bit where you said WTF, I laughed. I love a good pun. Why on earth would you take offence to that?

You are being ridiculous. And somebody who is happy walk about in a crab outfit is not going to be remotely bothered by what our friend said, they certainly wouldn’t have been horrified. Why on earth do you even think they would have been?

Just because you weren't quick enough to understand the pun OP, doesn't mean you should have made your friend feel stupid.

He was making a crab pun about the weather. You jumped to the wrong (and weird) conclusion.

I was so taken aback! But no, I didn't make a scene. I just said WTF at the same time guide lady looked horrified/shocked/perturbed (use the word of your choice, you weren't there so fill in the gap that fits your imagination of the scenario best!).

They scuttled past (oh dear, now I'm the one with the puns), and I said to him that you can't shout that at women and then I saw he got it and then he was embarrassed. With me. Not in front of anyone else! Just us.

So it's me BU then. Thanks for telling me. I've just been sick of being shouted at with similar comments and about 'smuggling peanuts' ffs. I'm 50 and have always worn a bra but 40yrs of this kind of thing raises my hackles.

I thought this was going to be a thread about getting crabs on your nipples (the sexually transmitted kind).. I don’t even fully understand what your concern was tbh. But if my assumption is correct how could someone in a crab outfit in June be cold enough for erect nipples to even enter anyone’s head, other than yours?
