To think you should receive the meal described on the menu

Slightly light-hearted but also incredibly annoying!
we went for a roast dinner today, when it arrived there were no Yorkshire puddings and no stuffing (as per the menu). When i asked where these items were they went to check and came back to say you had run out.
no substitutes offered.
this just mars the whole experience but if you try and complain you’re instantly made to feel as though you’re making an issue out of something unnecessarily.
this is happening more and more often recently. Anyone else noticed this?

No Yorkies would ruin DH's year! They should def have said if they were missing key components of a meal! And offered extras of the other things (roasties!!!) to make up for it.

vroc81 · 29/05/2022 19:36

A roast without Yorkshire and stuffing is like fish and chips without chips.. well maybe not quite but I’d have complained about it anyway!

ProfessionalTeaDrinker · 29/05/2022 19:36

I recently ordered a steak baguette and they didn't add the caramilsed onions. To add insult to injury, they also added mayonnaise. No where on the description did mention mayonnaise. When I've ordered the meal previously, it was mayonnaise free. I hate mayonnaise. You'd be surprised how often it sneaks its way into things though 😡

TheCanyon · 29/05/2022 19:37

That's shit, they're the best bits!

ProfessionalTeaDrinker · 29/05/2022 19:37

And no yorkies should be made a criminal offence

Brefugee · 29/05/2022 19:38

Please, people: Yorkies are dogs or chocolate bars. Yorkshire puddings should be said in full.

And i would have sent the meal back for being incomplete and requested something else.

FawnFrenchieMum · 29/05/2022 19:39

Honestly I’d have wanted a refund! I can’t eat a lot of veg (medical condition) so without a Yorkshire pudding, a Sunday roast can be a pretty empty plate.

Comedycook · 29/05/2022 19:39

How do you run out of Yorkshire puddings? They're made out of eggs, milk and flour. Surely all restaurants have these ingredients?

Yanbu. It would ruin the meal for me.

custardbear · 29/05/2022 19:39

They should be shut down for such atrocities!

Normando91 · 29/05/2022 19:40

Definitely should have been told beforehand that they’d run out. I wouldn’t have ordered without Yorkies or stuffing, best bits of a roast!

We were out at a fave restaurant of ours recently. Four of us, all ordering different meals, every time one of us said what we wanted we were told they didn’t have that on the menu tonight 🙄

MarmaladeLime · 29/05/2022 19:41

They should have told you when you ordered

To me that suggests that they're not made by the chef on the day.

catandcoffee · 29/05/2022 19:48

YANBU....how can they run out of these two things...I don't get it. Can't they go to the shop and buy more ingredients.

eggsellentwork · 29/05/2022 19:50

That's really disappointing! I had the opposite yesterday- very posh restaurant for special occasion, ordered caesar salad, which came full of anchovies. When I had to send it back they were very snooty because caesar 'always has anchovies'. I almost always check because I hate them, but they'd listed every other ingredient down to fine shaved parmesan and cracked black and pink peppercorns then I thought I was safe enough!

BlanketsBanned · 29/05/2022 19:51

They should have made more or at least got some from a supermarket

Comedycook · 29/05/2022 19:51

Yes exactly @Cloudyz7 ! I think it's a poor show that the chef wouldn't whip up a quick batter and make proper ones.

RaininSummer · 29/05/2022 19:53

We have just returned from a pizza chain this evening. They couldn't provide a lot of the options on the menu as they had no salad ingredients or fresh veg . Also service was so slow that we gave up before ordering any dessert. What we did get was nice but took over and hour to arrive and then absolutely ages passed before we could attract a waiter/waitress.

Lineala · 29/05/2022 19:55

Did they not offer a discount, or free dessert or anything? I was out with friends Fri evening and they had run out of tarragon for the bearnaise sauce so knocked a tenner off the bill.

linerforlife · 29/05/2022 19:56

@eggsellentwork you realise the actual dressing on your salad was made from puréed anchovies, right?

Have they never heard of the 4th emergency service, Aunt Bessie?

I do indeed. I also love tomato ketchup, but am not terribly fussed on whole tomatoes (better than whole anchovies though!)

I'm clearly totally uncultured, and shouldn't be allowed out!

Agreed! A proper chef with a decently stocked kitchen ought to be able to rustle up Yorkshire puddings and probably also stuffing to order.

Oblomov22 · 29/05/2022 20:03

Would hack me off. Plus you should have been told when ordering. I would have asked for a partial refund.

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/05/2022 20:05

Depends where is was..

if a cheap carvery, they should offer extra roasties

if a proper restaurant or gastro pub then they could bloody well make the yorkies, and either sausage or extra meat to make up for stuffing.

I’d have complained, nicely.
