That brings back bad memories! Can't she ask her teacher or one of her classmates?

orwellwasright · 21/05/2022 21:16

God, that's ridiculously easy. Can she really not work that out?

I zoomed into the picture, before remembering I can't do maths

Lockheart · 21/05/2022 21:19

Surely your A-level aged DD should do her homework by herself?

SuperTiredAgain · 21/05/2022 21:22

Thanks for giving me nightmares OP!!!

That made my brain hurt!!! 🤒

(I'd love to be super smart and just say something really clever like - "oh yes, it's 3.764 to the power 8" or something like that! (and then be right!!!))

Lilimoon · 21/05/2022 21:23

My Yr 10 further maths says it is an undefined integral. I have no idea what that means.

Familyfallout · 21/05/2022 21:23

I've sent it to my DD also further maths A level who says she will have a go and that it is not easy!! Will post her reply if she can help

It isn't homework, it's practice for exams. She can't do the question and is therefore asking for help to improve her skills to help her prepare for her up and coming exams.

Isn't this why we have science calculators??

She will ask a teacher on Monday if she hasn't solved it in the meantime. As it is self set work, none of her classmates have done this particular question.

What has she done before when she hasn’t understood something or has needed help? Surely she doesn’t ask her mum to ask mumsnet?

I don’t know much about maths, but I imagine it’s not going to help her to simply know the answer. She needs guidance on whatever about it she is finding difficult. From maybe er I dunno, a teacher?

MrsMorton · 21/05/2022 21:34

I also opened this thread forgetting that I can't do maths. Good luck...

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 21/05/2022 21:36

I showed DH. He 'bloody hell, where did you get that from', then complained it was too hard and went to bed He's a nuclear scientist. 😂

KarrotKake · 21/05/2022 21:37

Been a long time since I attempted so etching like that, but I'd expand out that first expression, then integrate it.
iirc Integral(arcsin) is a standard expression, and will remove all the trig expressions, so she will need to look it up. Then you can start factorising.
Has she managed to make a start?

Do you think teachers are available on a Saturday?

Fernsinthegarden · 21/05/2022 21:39

@iex @MrsMorton yep I did exactly the same thing! For some reason was expecting to see ‘if Jan has 5 apples and Ken has 20 apples, how many oranges do they have?’ Or something similar 😂

Why are you so rude? The teacher is hardly going to be available on a Saturday night. However, mumsnet is. And another poster is being helpful and asking her daughter. So then, it might help the op tonight, rather than Monday.

Don't be a dick.

Sorry; you need noblegiraffe.
Try the Secondary Education thread

Fernsinthegarden · 21/05/2022 21:41

More constructively though, is The Student Room forum still running? Might be another avenue to ask for help although it’s been absolute years since I was on it so might not be the same now!

Lilimoon · 21/05/2022 21:42

My Yr 10 says there are 2 really helpful vids:
