Artificial garden lawns - what a weird world

Another installed on our street. I just don’t understand it. Why would anyone do this?

There is a petition to ban their sale for installation in residential dwellings if you want to sign it:

It’s only got 5,900 signatures so far, which seems a pretty low number, given how much of a no brainer this is, imo. Maybe that’s just me.

petition deleted by MNHQ as we don't allow them, we're afraid.

We're having ours installed this week.

No mowing which is great as we have no where really to store our lawnmower.

SeemsSoUnfair · 10/05/2022 21:42

😴

At least the 3rd thread on same topic in the last week

MintyMoocow · 10/05/2022 21:43

This is one of those times when I despair of the whole human race. Such bloody ignorance, it is disgusting stuff.. and it looks and feels bloody awful.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 10/05/2022 21:44

I’m with you OP, hopefully they’ll be banned soon. Why anyone would want a plastic garden devoid of life is beyond me.

Spend the money you are wasting on this ecological disaster on a shed?

👏 👏

Figmentofmyimagination · 10/05/2022 21:50

It’s one of those rare ‘dividing lines’. I don’t think I could have any respect for someone who does this. On every level, it is insane.

Figmentofmyimagination · 10/05/2022 21:51

It’s also very dirty. Good luck getting rid of cat poo. Yeuch.

Twizbe · 10/05/2022 21:52

@MintyMoocow a shed 🤦‍♀️ why didn't we think of that ... oh yeah because it would take up all of our postage stamp of a garden.

Don't like them, don't get them.

Blinkingheckythump · 10/05/2022 21:53

It's just people being utterly lazy isn't it? Not wanting to mow a lawn. And no space for a lawn mower is a ridiculous excuse. People will literally come and do it for you with their lawnmower

PumpkinsandKittens · 10/05/2022 21:53

I don’t see the problem, I have an area in my garden where no grass with grow as it’s in the shade and under a huge conifer so grass won’t grow there. So I’m looking at getting some put down there

PumpkinsandKittens · 10/05/2022 21:54

Just to add I would much rather have real grass but it won’t grow and no I’m not getting rid of the tree.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 10/05/2022 21:54

I blame those brainless influencer types. They have a perfect plastic garden to go with their plastic artificial lives 🤮

Margo34 · 10/05/2022 21:54

Previous owners of my house installed it in the back and front gardens and it has caused no end of grief! The surface run off 😱

TheKeatingFive · 10/05/2022 21:54

I'm not sure I can get too worked up about this. Is it any worse, ecologically than paving?

Anyone I know who has this has a tiny postage stamp of a garden anyway

Freewheelingto40 · 10/05/2022 21:54

It's smelly and dirty. My neighbours have it and they can't use their garden in the summer without hosing it first.which makes the garden like a swamp . Would never ever buy plastic grass

Figmentofmyimagination · 10/05/2022 21:55

twizbe the thing is, it’s not actually about you and your convenience. This sort of ‘me me me’ attitude is why we need a ban.

They will if you can find a good one who doesn't charge an arm and a leg.

Add to that we have the remains of a pond under a lawn which inhibits the growth of grass.

Didn't fancy paving the whole thing.

But yeah, go judge and sign your petition if it makes you feel better.

We're excited to get some grass that is actually usable

TheKeatingFive · 10/05/2022 21:56

well it is her house, so to a large degree it is

Greensleeves · 10/05/2022 21:56

They're only good for one thing: identifying which of your neighbours is a moron.

Ecologically disastrous, fugly and indicative of an uncreative personality and a lazy attitude.

carefullycourageous · 10/05/2022 21:57

It looks totally shit and is grim environmentally. I don't think you can ban it but it is so <bleurgh> it blows my mind.

Why is my garden not about me? Is my house not about me either?

Thirder · 10/05/2022 21:57

Agree, horrible thing to do. Grass provides soakage for drainage and biodiversity. A lesson for children in your own garden if nothing else.
I have a family member who is planning to cover a huge patio with it so not replacing grass, but sounds horrible. How do you clean the giant plastic velcro of any bird poop, hair, or anything else. It doesn't come up easily.
I love that grass grows and changes with the weather.

LadyShmuck · 10/05/2022 21:58

I have it, but I have a concrete back yard in an old Victorian terrace so there would never have been real grass there. It brightens it up and I like it.
