To think you should not paint your house beige?

My good friend is paying a lot of money to have her house repainted. They’ve gone for one colour, ‘Natural Calico’, which appears to be a repackaging of beige. Am I being unreasonable to tell her this is a terrible idea?

I'm about to do mine too. Nicer than grey imo.

MrPoppysParka · 09/05/2022 20:28

She obviously likes it, so why is it any of your business?

Lockheart · 09/05/2022 20:28

I think you should paint your house whatever colour you like, it's your house.

There's a bright pink one near me which is a tad garish but each to their own...

IglesiasPiggl · 09/05/2022 20:29

If they like it, then what's the problem? I would only really advise against really dark colours because they're a nightmare to paint over.

chubbachub · 09/05/2022 20:30

Theres a row of terraces near me than have went rainbow colours. Like pastel shades, but still rainbow. Its really cool.
Mine is an off white colour.

Which colour would you suggest?

gah2teenagers · 09/05/2022 20:30

Isn’t calico more of a cream ?

Fairislefandango · 09/05/2022 20:30

Why on earth would it be a terrible idea if she likes it? There's nothing wrong with beigd. Or grey. Or any other colour.

TeenPlusCat · 09/05/2022 20:30

What's your problem with it? It is neutral so goes with most things, and as pp said, better than the grey trend.

6ft2inacompact · 09/05/2022 20:31

Do you mean inside the house or the actual house painted

sjxoxo · 09/05/2022 20:32

Mines white inside & out & I love it.. that’s worse than beige 😬 depends on what sort of house she has! I think beige can be understated, relaxed, both warm & cool, and welcoming to all if done well. Agree it’s much better than grey!!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 09/05/2022 20:35

I have Natural Calico on my stairs.

Looks really yellow when artificial light is on. I hate it. PITA area to repaint though.

Genuineuser · 09/05/2022 20:35

I get white. I get all one colour. But doesn’t beige go quite yellowy and age quite quickly? I’m genuinely surprised people still go in for it.

(Yes it’s absolutely none of my business, but you could say that about most of the AIBU threads.)

Warm neutrals are ‘in’, apparently.
If she likes it then what’s the issue? She’s the one living there!

kitcat15 · 09/05/2022 20:39

Wtf is it to you? 🙄

wildthingsinthenight · 09/05/2022 20:40

I like Natural Calico. It isn't beige

Redwinemaestro · 09/05/2022 20:40

Take a chill pill!

Solmum1964 · 09/05/2022 20:42

Is this inside or outside? We have this colour in our sitting room and I'd say it's a nice warm neutral closer to cream than beige and can be easy to accessorise.
If it's for the outside, it would look cleaner for longer than white!

Genuineuser · 09/05/2022 20:42

I want to rid the world of beige, clearly.

My friends house is all painted a natural colour and currently up for sale. The estate agent told her buyers generally like one natural colour because it's the easiest when it comes to them repainting with their own choice, as opposed to bright/dark colours, or wallpaper. My house is also a mixture of natural and white, I love it.

You're a miserable lot! Op is just starting her opinion, everyone has opinions on decor

I like your user name. Natural is good, but yellowy walls are not imo (beige). I mean, should she just go get the net curtains while she’s at it?

I’ve just looked the colour up and it’s not beige? It’s a warm cream. Bit too yellow for my liking, but each to their own.

Meredusoleil · 09/05/2022 20:46

I love beige. A much warmer and homelier colour than miserable old grey!

We have caramel latte and vanilla coloured walls and they look good enough to eat 😂

ReadyToMoveIt · 09/05/2022 20:46

Beige isn’t yellow!
