To think you should not paint your house beige?

My good friend is paying a lot of money to have her house repainted. They’ve gone for one colour, ‘Natural Calico’, which appears to be a repackaging of beige. Am I being unreasonable to tell her this is a terrible idea?

Ah, it does appear to look like Magnolia and is, I agree, quite a 'basic' colour, lacking imagination, especially if you plan to paint the whole house (so bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen?!)

However it is also neutral and light and when she has lived in it for a while perhaps she will realise that she needs to mix it up a bit, which she can easily do from that neutral base.

Perhaps she is planning to accessorise each room with 'pops' of colour. That will probs really grind your gears.

THIS. Thank you.

So can we get back to the beige now? I DON’T UNDERSTAND BEIGE!!!

No.

When you start a thread that reads like you are bitching about a friend, that's what PP will respond to.
If you wanted a thread to discuss what PP think about beige - that's the thread you should have started.

AIBU unreasonable to think you should not paint your house beige? (That’s the H1 here babes, the rest is background explanation. Sorry if not clear enough for you.)

‘Babes’?!

AIBU to think I’d never take style advice of anyone who calls strangers on a forum ‘babes’? 😏

YWBU to slag off her house to her. BUT of the thousands of colours in the world, I do find it depressing that so many people would go for rebranded beige. For me, personally, it's offensively bland. But this thread suggests the only options many people will consider are beige, grey, cream or white though!

I have Natural hessian throughout my tiny flat.. Need as much light as I can get
I have daylight lightbulbs too!
I can't see why it would bother you, bright red walls, perhaps.
Personal taste isn't it?

Depends. We love colour, but also collect paintings and ceramics, some of it really colourful and vibrant. It helps to have a neutral background to show everything off without clashing. I prefer to keep colour for soft furnishings etc

I have lots of colour in my house… I like deep blues and greens. I also like ‘warm neutrals’ (aka beige 😂). They’re calming, and a nice neutral base to show off the art work that I collect.
