To me it was having a boyfriend and being thin.
Thought that if I’d had those, everything would be fine šŸ«£šŸ™„

Also artist, actors and bands: had to know everything about them.
Now I can just appreciate their talents, don’t need to know anything about their personal lives.

Nuclear disarmament, rethinking that.

lljkk · 07/05/2022 11:56

I thought nuclear war was a constant threat.
It probably still is, but I couldn't worry about it constantly forever.

McConkeysPlate · 07/05/2022 12:02

Being popular.

DrDreReturns · 07/05/2022 12:03

My appearance. I used to be very hung up on it. Now I don't care.

MayorDusty · 07/05/2022 12:04

I was swept up ll did Greenham camp, too much booze and hash. Firmly believed that if we just didn't have any nuclear option everyone would be nicer.
Must admit I'm glad we have Trident now, glad I smoked all the good hash too.

genericusername789 · 07/05/2022 12:09

That none of my friends saw my mum shopping in Aldi and/or being sent to school with no brand crisps šŸ˜‚ now I don't shop anywhere else

SomethingAboutNothing · 07/05/2022 12:16

Designer clothes and handbags.

The charts

MardyOldGoth · 07/05/2022 12:19

Being perceived as cool.

God and religion. Now an atheist.

alloutofcareunits · 07/05/2022 12:29

That my Dynasty style hair didn't go flat on top, lots of backcombing in the toilets and Inset hairspray

Wearing exactly the same things as everyone else in my tribe - mod revival; being convinced that everyone was looking at me; hatred of certain types of music especially Abba and disco. I have become a lot more tolerant but I still hate Abba.

the80sweregreat · 07/05/2022 12:39

Spots.
(I still get the odd one in my 50s though )

Fairislefandango · 07/05/2022 12:43

I can't think of a single thing tbh! I was a pretty chilled-out teenager, not one for jumping on causes or getting obsessively into things. Wasn't particularly over-invested in my appearance or having a boyfriend either (didn't have one until university, as before that the only boys I was interested in weren't interested in me and vice versa!).

There are lots of things I think are important now but weren't on my radar as a teen though, but I guess that's true for most people!

Thomasina79 · 07/05/2022 12:48

Periods. I had terrible heavy bleeding and awful PMT.

but come the menopause! Bliss.

Lex345 · 07/05/2022 13:34

Fashion and being "on trend" rather than choosing clothes that actually suit me. Pretty grateful that social media wasnt a thing back then!

Drinking alcohol-I very, very occasionally drink now (maybe once or twice a year) but I was out several times a week in my later teens.

FourChimneys · 07/05/2022 13:36

Worrying about whether or not we were going to be nuked. I don't have the bandwidth to worry all over again.

Mrsweasleysclock · 07/05/2022 13:42

Worrying about what other people think. Going out to places I didn't like even though it wasn't my thing because that's what my friends wanted to do.

Same on the booze! I used to love getting really drunk with my mates. Now I am basically t total with the exception of holidays and Christmas, and even then I normally think I'm going to drink a lot more than i actually end up having.

IRunbecauseILikeCake · 07/05/2022 14:35

Going to school with my PE gear in a LIDL bag. That was a real faux pas in my circle šŸ˜‚

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 07/05/2022 14:38

Music. I had music on all the time. Now in my 50s I hardly ever listen to music, even the stuff I like.

MintyIguana · 07/05/2022 14:59

Having a suntan

LakieLady · 07/05/2022 15:06

Acid, hash, women's rights and anti-racism, with a side order of nuclear disarmament.
