Warning the entire group (nearly 100 members) about a police speed trap near a school? I live in a small town that has a disproportionately high number of schools - 4 in total. Basically half the town is school buildings. There is a 30mph limit that goes to a 20mph as you go past the school. Someone has just alerted everyone that there’s a police trap there at the moment which I think is bloody irresponsible of them - if people are speeding past a school then they should be caught and hopefully they will take the option of a speed awareness course and be educated on how dangerous even slight speeding is if you hit a child. If they aren’t then they don’t need to be told about a speed trap! AIBU?

What would you prefer; them speeding and getting caught or them not speeding at all? Which the warning will most likely guarantee the latter. YABU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BoredatHome321 · 05/05/2022 16:42

Yeah YABU, sorry.

Akods · 05/05/2022 16:43

I would rather they got caught speeding rather than slowing down for one day and speeding every other day!

I think you're right. Let them get caught and take the consequences. If the fact that they're speeding past an actual school isn't reason enough to slow down, they obviously need a bigger stick.

It's the attitude, really. It doesn't matter if they slow down going past a school today, the whole way we think about speeding and speed limits has to change.

I agree. They shouldn’t be speeding in the first place so they deserve to get caught. Warning them will not change their behaviour permanently, they’ll just not speed for the time the ‘trap’ is there. Hopefully points on their licence/a speed awareness course will be more likely to change their behaviour. People that speed shouldn’t be protected, I don’t think they would be too gaping if one of the people they warned hit their child next week. Idiots.

LoveInSlowMotion · 05/05/2022 16:52

gaping? 🙄 HAPPY

LightningAndRainbows · 05/05/2022 17:15

I agree OP. It shouldn't take the threat of a fine to slow people down. Maybe tomorrow you could message just to warn people that there are children near the school and hitting them in an accident at 40 rather than 20 could mean they die rather than simply be injured.

toomuchlaundry · 05/05/2022 17:18

Is it illegal to do this?

Momicrone · 05/05/2022 17:20

Yeah I'd rather the fuckers get caught

Is it illegal to do this?

No.

Onwards22 · 05/05/2022 17:44

This is always on FB - watch out there’s a police van or temporary speed trap on X street.
And everyone replies saying thank Goodness you said I’m driving that way later etc.

Surely the whole point is to catch the twats who speed. Not to help them not get caught.

Momicrone · 05/05/2022 17:46

Yes how about not driving like a duck in the first place, especially near schools

Threetulips · 05/05/2022 17:48

It is illegal!

Seconded.

Sciurus83 · 05/05/2022 18:05

Is it really illegal? It comes up on Google maps with an option to report a mobile camera and prompts to say if it's still there, surely they wouldn't do that if it was illegal?

MarvellousMay · 05/05/2022 18:07

Couldn’t get past the 100 members in a mum’s WhatsApp group Shock

Georgeskitchen · 05/05/2022 18:09

Threetulips · 05/05/2022 17:48

It is illegal!

The police often announce on facebook/local news page where they are stationing speed cameras. Should they be arresting themselves?
🤣🤣

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 05/05/2022 18:10

Why’s it just a mums WhatsApp, why are dads not invited? That’s weird and not ok.

Momicrone · 05/05/2022 18:13

Mums what's app groups are fine

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 05/05/2022 18:15

Momicrone · 05/05/2022 18:13

Mums what's app groups are fine

Really! So any child being raised by their father like I was should be excluded? Fuck that unpleasantness. They are far from fine.

Momicrone · 05/05/2022 18:17

Wisteria, can you not start a dad's whats app group if you feel so strongly and sweary about it

worraliberty · 05/05/2022 18:17

Akods · 05/05/2022 16:43

You've rather they got caught speeding and risk hitting a child?

Wow.
