Anyone else find them depressing ?! Just another Sunday which I also can't stand. I love time off work but when I choose.

Nooooo..... we love bank holidays. Free gift of a day off work and school SmileSmile

I wish we had more 3 day weekends !

Notimeforaname · 02/05/2022 12:53

Do you work?

Notimeforaname · 02/05/2022 12:54

Ah ignore me then you do work.

Pissyduck · 02/05/2022 12:55

Hate them because I always have to work (Retail) and people are extra annoying because they tend to be grumpy from driving on the overcrowded roads.

It's not really fair that a percentage of the population get a long weekend, can meet up with friends and family whilst anyone in the service industry gets to have an extra shitty time.

SwedishEdith · 02/05/2022 12:57

Same. Have always found them depressing. And can't really go anywhere as too many other people. Would prefer more leave.

WhatNoRaisins · 02/05/2022 12:59

I do find them a bit lonely. Everyone always seems to have plans and it's not like I can just have a lazy day with young kids. Maybe I'll enjoy the rest again when they're older.

DockOTheBay · 02/05/2022 13:00

I would rather have it as an extra days leave to take when I wanted, or for the kids to be able to take 3 days in term time when we wanted.

Longcovid21 · 02/05/2022 13:06

I'm glad you started this post. I thought it was just me. I used all my money and ideas up during the 2 week Easter break. There seems to be nothing going on at all. The children have been arguing constantly despite me taking them to cinema, walk etc. I am out of ideas and have just had a little cry.

pigsDOfly · 02/05/2022 13:07

I suppose it's nice if you've got someone to spend it with but for people on their own, as pp said, it feels like just another boring Sunday.

Not looking forward to the four day 'bank holiday' in June for the queen's celebrations.

Not sure why it needs four days anyway. Seems way over the top.

DashboardConfessional · 02/05/2022 13:09

Yep. Day 3 in a row of entertaining a 3 year old and it's my day off with him on Tuesdays anyway. Everywhere is either closed or rammed with people. And it's raining.

ComDummings · 02/05/2022 13:11

They’re stupid since retail and service industries don’t recognise them. I feel for people working in those areas. Obviously healthcare also but that’s essential so can’t be helped.

It feels too soon after Easter if you ask me.

@pigsDOfly it's only 1 extra day than the normal bank holiday then the weekend, it's not a 4 day bank holiday.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 02/05/2022 13:15

I bloody love them! Been working like a loon, doing 70 hour weeks and worked both Good Friday and Easter Monday. Can’t tell you how brilliant it was yesterday knowing I had another Sunday still! On my own, no other people - bliss!

lollipoprainbow · 02/05/2022 13:15

It's extra hard as my dd9 is autistic and hates going out! Weekends are hard enough but an extra day argh !! I'd love a day off during the week when I choose rather then have it foisted on me. Yes the four day holiday will be interesting Confused

I do too. Everyone else always seems to have plans but my husband nearly always works on bank holidays (and often Sundays). We were invited to a thing at a National Trust property today with friends and I could have gone on my own but I just didn't fancy sitting in traffic then being surrounded by crowds of people at an overpriced country house.

So I went for a bit of retail therapy and spent £96 at the garden centre instead 😁.

PeakyBlinda · 02/05/2022 13:16

I love them. Just my two cents but if you'd rather be at work than at home/have free time to spend as you please then that says a lot about your life.

lollipoprainbow · 02/05/2022 13:17

@PeakyBlinda yes it does, my life at home is hard so I prefer being at work to be honest.

You need to reframe them. Instead of two Sundays we have Saturday 1, Saturday 2 and today is Sunday. 😀

lollipoprainbow · 02/05/2022 13:18

@Squirrelblanket yes but Sunday's always feel like Sunday's !!

I love them. We normally take them as lazy days, but weekends are fairly busy with teens to get to places!

And this morning dh took the dc out for breakfast and I had a whole hour in the house on my own. I think that is only the third time since the first lockdown started, so I'm feeling very happy.
Although the reason he was up was that he got a business call (not connected to work) at 9am. So at least one bank is working today.

DashboardConfessional · 02/05/2022 13:21

I'd rather have 6 of my precious PT days off when DS is at nursery so I can get stuff done!

nomistake · 02/05/2022 13:23

If the schools were open they would be great 😃but just another day of filling a day with activities with whingy kids for me

Yep. Indeed. Why are kids so whingy. I can't cope anymore!

Could you not make plans too? I think if you find them hard, start planning now for the next ones at the jubilee weekend, dont wait for it to happen then be lonely because everyone has plans. (Needs to take own advice and make plans!)
