Anyone else find them depressing ?! Just another Sunday which I also can't stand. I love time off work but when I choose.

I love them. Just my two cents but if you'd rather be at work than at home/have free time to spend as you please then that says a lot about your life.

Sadly your comment says that you don't seem to see anyone's life in a different viewpoint to your own which says a lot about your life too.

lollipoprainbow · 02/05/2022 13:29

Now If the schools were open if would be a different thing altogether !!!

@PeakyBlinda yes it does, my life at home is hard so I prefer being at work to be honest.

I think that’s your issue you need to look at not the bank holiday . I feel sad for people that would rather be at work than home . Maybe have a think what you can do .

If the schools were open they would be great 😃but just another day of filling a day with activities with whingy kids for me

Nooo, then I wouldn’t have got a lie in this morning as I’d have had to get up to make packed lunches and do the school run!

I love Bank Hols, but completely understand that parents with children with additional needs may struggle.

CoodleMoodle · 02/05/2022 13:31

Don't normally mind them, but I've been stuck in with DS(3) since Tuesday and my brain feels like it's unravelling. He's got chickenpox and is absolutely fine but obviously not allowed out. He's bored of me and just wants to play with DD(8) but she just wants to chill out before she goes back to school, and the arguing is driving me bonkers!

paddingtonstares · 02/05/2022 13:32

I've always worked them..this year new job, I'm off, don't know what to do. Everything will be busy or closed. Weather is shite, I'm bored. Much prefer working them and planning days out on my terms.

TimBoothseyes · 02/05/2022 13:33

I hate them being so close together. I'm agency and the place I'm working at is shut today. The agency holiday period runs from April - March so I don't have enough holiday accrued to book today off as 1. So A day's lost wages and yet more lost wages in June. Bloody great.

paddingtonstares · 02/05/2022 13:41

Also , what happened to tv, its shite for a bank holiday, where's the blockbuster films, TV specials. I feel like a right old woman today..pah!

Lifeisrelentless · 02/05/2022 13:42

I’m not a fan either, another day of attempting to entertain my almost 2 year old who gets really bored and whingy inside but it’s also hard work going out anywhere because we are going through a very tantrumy stage at the mo, and we are skint too so only places we can go are free places which limits us. Would be a different matter if nurseries were open haha

WhatNoRaisins · 02/05/2022 13:57

Were actually going to go and stay with some family for the 4 day one. Problem with the shorter ones is that most of my friends are with their own families and ours don't live nearby.

user1471457751 · 02/05/2022 13:15

@pigsDOfly it's only 1 extra day than the normal bank holiday then the weekend, it's not a 4 day bank holiday.

Yes, you're right it's not actually a separate four day bank holiday. It's four days in total, two either side of the weekend.

I was classing it as a four day bank holiday weekend.

Sandinmyknickers · 02/05/2022 14:40

pigsDOfly · 02/05/2022 13:07

I suppose it's nice if you've got someone to spend it with but for people on their own, as pp said, it feels like just another boring Sunday.

Not looking forward to the four day 'bank holiday' in June for the queen's celebrations.

Not sure why it needs four days anyway. Seems way over the top.

Are you geniuely suggesting that people who are on their own can't think of any way better to spend their time than work? Jeez. It's attitudes like that that almost destroyed ne during the lock downs as people with families and children expected me to work ridiculous hours because 'its not like youre doing anything else'

maddiemookins16mum · 02/05/2022 14:44

They’re great when it’s sunny and warm, today is grey, gloomy and I’m sat on the sofa with a blanket counting the hours until work tomorrow which will be extra busy with all the customers who will have emailed in about something (because they too have not much better to do on a gloomy BH).
that said, I really enjoyed Easter and am looking forward to the one in June.

Are the Bank Holidays Friday/Monday or Thursday/Friday?

liveforsummer · 02/05/2022 14:55

Squirrelblanket · 02/05/2022 13:18

You need to reframe them. Instead of two Sundays we have Saturday 1, Saturday 2 and today is Sunday. 😀

Yes definitely. Yesterday was definitely Saturday 2 and not Sunday as there was that freedom of knowing there was no work the next day and didn't have to have clothes/lunches organised. Even tomorrow isn't a full on Monday Tuesday as it's an inset day. It's a lot easier being at work when there are no children there 😆(school), I'll get longer for my lunch so can pop out. Dc will get fed at childcare.

I feel for you OP xxx and those that have to work BHs.

It's such a shame that it's a long day for you today
As I said I love bank holidays as it's an extra day off for me, no school no work and no chasing children out of bed to get them ready for school whilst I try to get ready for work.

Ive brought up my DCs on my own with little or no help. I guess we haven't had big expectations of bank holidays, as we're as happy to have a pj & chill out day or to do something...

Shoebie · 02/05/2022 15:09

I suppose with the service industry they get a fair amount of customers if they're off work so it makes financial sense to open even though some of the staff aren't keen (some like choosing when they take the day so swings and roundabouts). I am not as fussed on them since having children but don't mind them.

Only one standard bank holiday (May Day) in the year falls outside the school holidays... Schools are not free childcare for the convenience of parents.

Coasterfan · 02/05/2022 15:10

Sorry but I love them, my job is manic and full on and full of stress and unrealistic demands so an extra weekend day is wonderful! We had plans every days and nowhere has been busy, even Alton towers yesterday which I thought would be rammed but it was really quiet.

cushioncovers · 02/05/2022 15:17

It's all about perspective isn't it. When I was a single parent to small kids with no money I hated them. Now my kids are adults and I have a bit more money and I can come and go as I please, I love them.

I cannot wait until I can come and go as I please.

lollipoprainbow · 02/05/2022 15:32

@LadyMonicaBaddingham it was a lighthearted joke jees, I wasn't for one moment claiming school's are free childcare 🙄🙄🙄

MrOllivander · 02/05/2022 15:33

I don't mind them but dread the day back at work as it will be manic and we all work overtime
